They did the opposite, they strifled any creativity going into it and settled to make a boring ass GOW clone that is essentially visually castrated to appeal to the widest possible audience.
And fail at it, because people don't give a fuck about such a PS2 tier game anyway.

What the fuck, I never knew this artist was involved, this is the kind of art that I would love to see in a game. How in the fuck they could screw up so much? From what I remember the game was forgettable as fuck. Some lazy-ass designs, muddy graphics and fucking dumb story. Combat system was lame, skills were lame and final battle was lame.
