How come BOTW went for a serious take on a zelda game and is adored by fans but twilight princess tried the same thing and is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda ?
Seriously, the story in BOTW was melancholic as fuck and actually had zelda dealing with real shit, corresponding with an actual personality of someone who is trying to keep it together despite being completely and unfairly expected to save the world.
Botw, not a troll thread duh
>twilight princess is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda ?
u wot
It's a different type of serious
>botw
>serious take
they made the game post apocalyptic just for an excuse for the world to be so empty and boring. if they were actually serious they would have set it 100 years prior when most of the story was actually taking place.
Because TP was FUCKING BORING
Thank god they changed the design of Zelda games, Majora's mask was the last time I could sit through that shit.
The wolf segments are garbage and they never add any abilities to it. The tutorial is like 3 hours and the first 3 dungeons are forgotten by me bland. Plus it was like forever delayed and then delayed some more to launch it on the wii at the same time, so after all that hype and Nintendo claiming it was time spent making it perfect it really was underwhelming.
But seriously fuck the wolf segments, so boring. Everything wrong about Zelda combat without the Zelda gameplay of expanding your ability set.
It is, by pretty much every fan.
Besides the ones who meme windwaker as most terrible.
When its the best.
Granted, but the story that is there is still pretty depressing, even with the 'happy' ending of all links friends being long dead.
Are you fucked in the head OP? People didn't dislike TP because of it's fucking tone you mook they disliked it because the gameplay was too safe and similar to OoT. Also people didn't really dislike TP, where in the hell did you hear that it was "universally claimed to be the most terrible" when the CDi games or Skyward Sword exist?
because it didn't fully execute its own "serious"ness, for a post-apocalyptic Hyrule things are surprisingly vibrant and not nearly as dreary as other games have been
>Ocarina showed Hyrule filled with ghosts and zombies of former civilians that died after Ganon came to power, Shadow Temple and the well are filled with undead and signs of torture, execution, etc. from the civil war that happened 10 years prior to the game
>meanwhile, despite taking place after a massive genocide, the only undead we see in BOTW are skeletal versions of the same mobs you fight regularly and quest NPCs as ghosts
>no poes, no redeads, not even any skeletons or bones of Hylians that died during the calamity
>Arc is resolved because her mute twink scrapped his knee
I'm really feelin' it
Maybe next time the gameplay will be half decent.
Who're Link's friends?
You didn't find it depressing that, despite Calamity being sealed early enough to not have affected the Domains, there are only like a dozen NPCs for each respective region? The irony of the "post-pre-apocalypse" is that there wasn't all that much to begin with.
>twilight princess tried the same thing and is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda ?
Because it was boring and forgettable as fuck, half baked OoT wannabe, with tons of padding and too little of..., well, everything.
The only thing TP is remembered for is Midna and Zant. People only pretend to like it because of its art style
>how come fans like this game that has completely different gameplay, is so different from this other game it might as well be in a different genre
>I mean they both have kinda serious tones, therefore the games are basically the same, what's the deal??
No, I know your going off on lack of characters in the game, but it makes sense.
As much as people hate the comparison its very souls like in that the world you enter is very much dying because the heroes failed their mission 100 years ago.
Thats what makes BOTW feel depressing, your like a little fly travelling around a big ass morgue filled with old dead bodies and ruins.
Thats what makes the end bittersweet, while you succeed, tonnes of people still died and all your friends (the champions) originally failed their mission, meaning only you alone survived.
Its very serious when compared to most other games, thematically anyway.
>serious
>put disconnected shrines all over the map with no attempt at worldbuilding
I always forget there were two 3d zeldas on gamecube... I'll stick to ww though.
it feels absolutely nothing like souls.
The story in BotW is such complete trash that anyone who would defend it is beyond help or rational discussion.
>Twilight Realm
>Blue-ish neon lights
>Ancient Sheikah
>Blue neon lights
SLOW DOWN THERE AONUMA, don't want to overdose on creativity.
Wait a minute, is this one of those symbolic correlations?
Somebody find me a lorefag so I can find the masterclass of storytelling and characterization behind these designs.
BOTW was even more boring desu.
skyward sword, user
Twilight Princess would have been better if they scrapped Wolf Link all together, or made it actually fun and useful.
not even close TPfag
DEEPEST
LORE
Not gameplay you moog, the story is exactly the same though.
>world slowly dying due to evil that the heroes tried and failed to fight off successfully
>only one person/the hero left who could still possibly fight off the evil
Granted the ending to botw is happier since the evil is vanquished whereas in dark souls it can only be offset for a little longer.
Best Zelda story and it's not even close.
Best dungeons too. That's the benefit of linearity.
No, Skyward swords is considered the worst due to waggle and repetitions. Please stop posting.
>make a timeline and then have botw not fit into that timeline
What were they thinking
SOUL
SOULLESS
Just stop dude it's not funny anymore.
>How come BOTW went for a serious take on a zelda game
it didn't?
>twilight princess tried the same thing and is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda ?
Skyward Sword is far and away the most hated.
>Seriously, the story in BOTW was melancholic as fuck and actually had zelda dealing with real shit, corresponding with an actual personality of someone who is trying to keep it together despite being completely and unfairly expected to save the world.
Too bad her voice actor wasn't good and we only got a few minutes of what you were talking about anyway
what happened to the raised land the ranch was on?
why doesn't the location of the ranch line up with the Great Plateau, which is also from OOT?
how did it survive years of wear and tear when it hasn't shown up in any Zelda post-Ocarina?
>TP worst
tp was ok, just had a bad intro
SS is the worst
>Why do people like this thing and not this other thing
It's a mystery lad.
you can't say it's exactly the same. The nature of the evil is absolutely unlike it.
Play at least the game before posting, there are lot of quests shrines that give lore about them and a bunch are placed in places that make sense. It's true that's it's no the case for all of them but saying they're all disconnected without attempt at worldbuilding is stupid
You're literally describing every game, movie and book with a hero's journey story structure. Wow the world is dying and the hero must fight evil, Fromsoft better sue Nintendo for ripping off that original idea.
>BOTW doesn't have a serious story
Enough with the shitposting anons, your bot answering the question.
Was the gameplay of botw just that good over twilight princess that people accepted it and liked it better ?
Because it was a simple reference the devs put in there for fun and wasn't intended to line up with any timeline bullshit.
Oh, the Champions are the friends.
Oh...
wish there was like, some dialogue to show that
wouldn't their "deaths" be less bittersweet, considering they return as force ghosts and ruin the Divine Beasts by narrating everything you do? You know, hypothetically speaking, if then Champions or Link were characters.
I get the narrative you're trying to sell, but it's only on a conceptual level that it works. People die, and that's sad. That's fucking it. Hyrule has no personality, no characters to mourn, and Calamity Ganon is treated as a natural disaster instead of an evil to rise against.
I'll fucking weep for the people in Oklahoma who just got massacred by a tornado before I give a second thought to this emotionally-devoid Japanese penmanship that feels composed by an alien trying to understand human decency.
You can't just write the outline of things that are generally accepted to be sad occurrences and except people to think they're a masterpiece. Read the fucking news, that has better writing than this manipulative garbage.
BotW is only "serious" conceptually.
The actual story is basically a bad anime.
Other M was not a fluke, that's the quality of Nintendo's cinematic storytelling, only reason people don't endlessly shit on BotW's story is that most of it is avoidable.
jesus chrisy, how many hearts am I expected to have? why does everything past the great plateau hit for 5+ hearts regardless of equipment?
It varies but still shares a lot.
In botw the evil is ambiguous, while they refer to it as Gannon, its repeatedly stated that it is not a single person but is a collective force of everyones spite and hatred that recurs endlessly.
In dark souls the darkness is a result of human greed and negative emotions that leads to the gradual decay of the world, in a cycle between life and death.
Be it what they may, their similar stories all the same.
Man this doujin was good.
Just stock up on food.
>We, The Sheikah, wasted untold amounts of money and man hours to create these Shrines to train the Hero of Legend in his fight against Calamity...
>so here we have Stasis Golf, and we've recreated the wind you'll experience on the plains of Hyrule when you're dueling Ganondorf on the Hylian Links. Remember to always follow through with your swing and don't look up, else you'll hook the ball like those fish you could bait in a plethora of other Zelda games, but not this one lol
It's at the end of the timeline. The very, very end. Of all three timelines.
Zelda has all three pieces of the triforce, Ganon is practically collapsing under his own weight, there are ruins from locations on all timelines, the whale gods are dead...
>its repeatedly stated that it is not a single person but is a collective force of everyones spite and hatred that recurs endlessly
u wot
no it's not
REMEMBER THING
>Mangled remnants from every age and every land.
>It actually lends credence to the old rumors, that the Sacred Realm rests above it all.
>Was the gameplay of botw just that good over twilight princess that people accepted it and liked it better ?
Yes, you fucking retard. Why are we even talking about this, no shit people liked this VIDEO GAME over the other VIDEO GAME because the GAMEPLAY was better in one of them. You're acting like BOTW was basically the same as TP with a few slight mechanical tweaks, it's a completely different fucking game.
just get a few armor upgrades and you'll be invincible because of the backwards ass way this game calculates damage
>twilight princess tried the same thing and is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda
Wut? It is one of the fan favorites, and my personal favorite m8
The game has a backwards difficulty curve, upgrade any of the decent sets 2-3 times and nothing will harm you except Guardians and Lynels. Also It's "impossible" to be 1-shot at full hp unless the attack has dot damage like fire attached to it (Guardian laser).
Yes it is, right at the start it literally calls it.
"A ancient evil that feeds on the hatred and jealousy of all creatures".
Why are you fighting enemies?
Because of things unrelated to the story?
Feeds on =/= is made of.
ITT:
DERR, TWILIGHT PRINCESS WAS DA BEST DUH, THAT'S WHY EVERYONE REMEMBERS IT DUH, YEAH YOU KNOW LIKE THAT ONE BIT DURRR
That’s a design choice to make these things easier to find.
Because TP was an actual rehash of OoT which was never fun.
Barely anyone in this thread is talking about Twilight Princess. I think one guy said it was his favorite.
>In dark souls the darkness is a result of human greed and negative emotions
You've got it backwards. The Dark Soul is what causes those things, without it then we're just emotionless husks
The decay of the world is because the light of Gwyn's soul is fading, as it's the light that makes it the golden age. It's less a cycle between life and death and a metaphorical one between order and chaos, knowledge and ignorance
Call me crazy, but it seems to me the Shrines would be more rewarding if they were hidden away, found by legitimately exploring old ruins and finding hidden passageways.
Not overworld markers blinking and beeping at you constantly.
Did you actually play the game? Most of the shrines are hidden that way
But there are hidden shrines? There are plenty that are hidden away and they usually require you to solve a puzzle to enter
Oh, I think that's where I'm getting caught up then.
I always thought the darkness in souls was a result of the human condition corrupting the soul but I guess it makes sense that the dark soul actually was what caused those problems in humans in the first place.
Their still both depressing imo.
user have you tried playing the game? You DO have to explore and search old ruins to find most of the shrines and not a single one of them has overworld markers.
The post apocolyptic setting ruins the story, even more so because there are next to no people and the entire world has stagnated.
Excuse me, what? I like it. I prefer it to OoT any day for replay.
Is this loss?
Redeads are not Hylians, they were made by Ganon.
that's a Smash retcon and Redeads are roaming before he comes to power, like under the graveyard and in the royal family tomb
elaborate, botw dickrider
The quest shrines, you mean. Don't
recall those ever having puzzles in them, either.
So the finding them is the Shrine.
" "
Overworld marker in this senseThey're bold and brash and stick out. Not map markers.
what a nice guy
>giving a shit about best or worst zelda game
each zelda has its advantages, TP has Midna
>It is, by pretty much every fan.
Maybe by the fake normie fans who only played 3 Zelda games and think their opinions matter. TP isn't a great Zelda game, but no one who has played them all would call it the worst.
>overworld marker in the sense that they're not overworld markers but objects in the world
Ignoring how stupid that statement was, that still only accounts for the minority of shrines. There are 120 shrines in the game and most of those are hidden from plain sight.
>made by Ganon
>are found inside the Royal Family Tomb and at bottom of the well before Ganon took over Hyrule
>are also found in the Shadow Temple which bears a giant Sheikah symbol at its gate and is the same temple which hides "Hyrule’s bloody history of greed and hatred"
>can also found in the Earth Temple where sages pray to repel evil and even have a statue depicting them in the same temple
The redeads were obviously made by the Sheikah
in the sense that they're designed specifically to stick out, so they can be found, instead of put in logical places that are lore-friendly, hidden or otherwise.
Actually when you think about the existence for the Shrines, it's utter nonsense that they're scattered about.
>most of them
I wonder how many actually are. I don't suppose you'd actually know.
>How come BOTW went for a serious take on a zelda game
it really wasn't any more serious than ALttP, OoT, MM, TP, or most of the other mainline games, for that matter.
>twilight princess tried the same thing and is universally claimed to be the most terrible mainline zelda ?
lol wut? SS is by far considered the worst mainline Zelda, as it should be. TP was good and was well mostly well-received.
Doesnt BotW take place almost 100 years after Calamity Ganon basically fucked everything? Makes sense that things are regrowing and people are putting things back together by then.
3D zeldas:
Oot = MM > BotW > TWW > TP > POWER GAP > SS
Twilight Princess is FAR from the worst mainline zelda, its just tryhard edgy.
>in the sense that they're designed specifically to stick out, so they can be found, instead of put in logical places that are lore-friendly, hidden or otherwise.
>Actually when you think about the existence for the Shrines, it's utter nonsense that they're scattered about.
>Magitech Shiekah Shrine in Tribal ruins#5
It's hard to take the game seriously with the shrines. Their reason for existence, and their massive focus to almost every part of the world, just seems unbelievably contrived.
>it's utter nonsense that they're scattered about.
The Sheikah are literally the Illuminati of the Zelda universe. Of course there'd be shrines everywhere. They have a hand in almost everything
>This person approaches you and tells you that they need a viable male to help the entire gerudo population reproduce
Your response ?
Think carefully about the pain it entails.
imagine actually naming your daughter anally
I grew up on strictly Nintendo consoles and every mainline Zelda game, from 5 years old at the end of the 90s to now, and Twilight Princess is definitely my favorite Zelda game. The thing that really gets me is the dungeons and the world building, although it's not flawless.
After finishing BOTW, I despise its shallow open world, but love the combat. 4 Samey-looking mini dungeons with similar boss battles, and (100?) mini-mini dungeons from the shrines. The only thing I absolutely loved about BOTW was the dungeon journey to the top of Hyrule Castle, and the revealing of Ganon. I would like a game like the original mainline Zelda games with all the dungeons, but the combat and inventory system of BOTW.
Well, if I must...
Only if I get to breed you
Tried too hard, Link got turned into a literal black wolf and everything was hurr darkness.
It's like the Zelda franchise was during its "green day and linkin park is the best shit ever, oh shit listen to this my chemical romance group" teenage phase.
Holy shit it really is true that that people go OLD GOOD NEW BAD for every single zelda game.
Every time a new one comes out the pervious one becomes the beloved classic while the new one does everything wrong.
Just recruit some bros and get to work.
This.
Hasn't one of the devs said that fans basically don't know what the fuck they want and will always hate something about the new title to suddenly saying they loved it 1 or 2 games later?
The Zelda game that came out before BotW was Triforce Heroes and I don't see anyone praising that travesty.
And according to Aonuma, that pile of shit is a mainline game and canonical sequel to ALBW even though it's a Toon Link and not classic Link.
>The Sheikah are literally the Illuminati of the Zelda universe
when was this ever the case pre-BOTW? The only Sheikah we see regularly is Impa and most of the time her role is limited to being Zelda's bodyguard, just because they protect the royal family doesn't mean they're orchestrating everything from the sidelines
Too bad this is just one of a very tiny handful of instances like this and there are no sidequests that actually explore Hyrule's history. Just shrine and fetchquest faggotry.
SS Impa. It's also implied in OoT that the Sheikah were responsible for whatever went on in the well and Shadow Temple.
>SS Impa
>Skyward had the same writer and director as BOTW
also torturing and executing prisoners of war and extracting information away from the public eye is far different from setting up plans hundreds of years in advance and building advanced technology that makes the entire kingdom fall on you for every action
