trying to view video games as an art devalues games. It's why all these western wannabe arthouse games despite being made by massive studios are so fucking lame. They want to be artsy and mature and these developers think being a game is not a good thing. Making a good game is a art in of itself, designing levels, designing attack feedback, making puzzles, animations, enemy AI, keeping the player engaged till the end and giving them a reason to play more than once are all incredible feats and wannabe artfags miss out on all of that by just doing psuedo-cutscenes with sad music or some shit.
Games should be games first and foremost

Video games CAN be art but most often not. Video games can offer something movies, books, music can’t. Atmospheres more immersive than any other medium. Anybody who has played RDR1 riding around on a horse listening to that sweet slow western music on sunset knows what I talking about.
