you cant really use the playstation hardware with freemcboot. the ps1 chip has its own firmware and whenever you put playstation game disc inside the console switches to it when it boots the game thus switching out of fmcb interface. you cant boot ps1 game isos with fmcb period.

It was the last great console, people weren't afraid to experiment with their games and you could play literally any genre you could think of.
Some may say it was a shovelware machine but honestly i don't really care, i love most if not all the games for Ps2.

PS3 was pretty mediocre compared to the competition. Multiplats looked and ran like ass on it. PS1, PS2 and PS4 are correct though. PS1 and PS2 actually had some good exclusives to speak of, and for about 4 years or so, PS4 had the best looking multiplats.

I mean, i guess the growing cost of developing games make it impossible to make experimental games and try to take risks like developers did until 6th gen.
And on the other side, i feel like indie developers need to have some sort of quality control, most of these experimental games would be indie games today, but those games were made by big developers with enough resourses to actually finish a game with production value, not by some dude with an art degree who learned to use rpgmaker or unity.

Last generation was really mediocre period, the 360 really wasn't all that appealing unless you were into shooters. Granted the PS3 was also mediocre, most of its big exclusives are so goddamn forgettable.

Xbox just drove the whole focus of the 7th console generation onto console shooters. Every major release was some shooting game with an online aspect to it.

It wasn't until PS3 that sony went for the most "powerful" console. A great console is made from both; games and good tech. And neither PS1 or PS2 were powerful at all.

PS2 had some really strong post processing shit to it, I know the reflections and rain particles for MGS2 was something that wasn't possible on other consoles at the time, and I think the fog effects in SH2 were supposedly better done on the PS2.

Granted RE4 ran better on the gamecube, and Chaos Theory was so much better looking on the xbox.

RE4 is a rushed port, that's it. That said, most PS2 conversion were always abysmal. For a PS2 port to be good, it had to be developed alongside the others.
