Same, it's one of the many reasons why I could never get behind GX. From what I understand, Takaya Imamura didn't have a whole lot to do with it, and he's the main reason the series even has any sort of aesthetic and tone.
A lot of the GX designs are unironically soulless, but that could also have to do with them being renders instead of illustrations. (Bio Rex for example)
