You have to choose an historical event to make a survival horror game

Which one you choose?

Go back to /pol/

Bronze age collapse. Amidst large-scale natural disasters and strife, you also have to deal with attacks by the mysterious "Sea Peoples" (who are later revealed to be Lobstermen)

The Franklin expedition was about using a limited and already stored resources making them last as much as possible, survivals are about gathering them
Also how can you watch the terror and not pick up what's it about? Over everything it's in the fucking name

Dyatlov Pass

Berlin, May 1945. Gotta escape the Fuhrer bunker, then evade the Soviets. Add occult shit if you want but it's already scary enough IMO.

Three Mile Island

No one really knows anything about it since nothing crazy happened, so it'd be reasonable to replace employee incompetence and unfamiliarity with computers with supernatural influences. Could make it pretty spoopy.

Something about one of the many early American pioneer settlements that went missing. I know its most likely Indians, but maybe it could be supernatural Indians.

The beast of Gevaudan incident my dream is a game made of that event

Krakatoa 1883

Tunguska event

Traveling along a river in Africa on a steamboat in the late 1800s during Britains wars with the Zulu. Limited supplies, limited ammo and a long way to go.

Either the fatal expedition of Sir John Franklin or the fatal expedition of Robert Falcon Scott.

How can a historical event be scary if you know 1 there won't be supernatural or monsters because it's real and 2 know the outcome already since the event already happened?

the viking age, where you play as a monk with a fear of men with beards

The Philidelphia Experiment. Interdimensional horrors.

A doomed expedition to find the northwest passage.

cause 1, it's a game and they can add supernatural elements and 2, you know the outcome of the event but you don't know the outcome of every single person within it. The crux of it would be whether or not you'll be able to survive it.

>horror requires monsters
>horror requires supernatural elements
>every player already knows every event that has ever happened

Any event involving poltergeists or ghosts. Corporeal horrors are boring as shit, and that includes zombies. Hauntings are the thinking man's supernatural fix.

Salem witch trial survival game.

You are a citizen of Salem, when the hysteria begins to spread. You are guilty of being a better farmer than your neighbors or of just having better land. People think you use witch craft to make their crops worse, or to make yours better.

Basically turns into a farming sim like Stardew valley or harvest moon, but the people you interact with all have suspicions of you being a witch and you have to do everything to can to abate their fears, make them like you, not get set up by your fucking asshole neighbors who have no problem burning you alive for witchcraft if it means they get your stuff.

Maybe include an option where, if things start heading south you can start dabbling in witchcraft just to fuck em.

The british cholera epidemic

9/11
Titanic
Pompeii

Has to be done with AAA budget and graphics of course.

Im honestly surprised the lack of media the Donner party gets. No TV shows, movies, or games. It really fucking sucks.

Based

Rape of Nanking

This

The Lost Colony on Roanoke Island where every inhabitant mysteriously disappeared.

You sail from England and there's a comfy cinematic where there's storm and waves.
The ship lands in a bigger colony and you travel north to Roanoke Island as a tutorial.
On the way there, yoyr horse gets killed by indians and you barely escape.
When you arrive to Roanoke, everyone is gone amd you wander around.
The reveal plays with the idea that logically it'd be Indians that fucked with it, but there's a much more sinister supernatural force at work.
You don't have resources to travel back without your horse so you start exploring.

You start with a musket, sword, and flintlock for weapons. The ammo you start with is the only ammo you ever get.
At night you can set up camp.
You can freeze to death.
As you get closer and closer to revealing the mystery, more scary enemies appear.
You can hunt, but the noise may attract predators, and you're the prey.

Siege of leningrad maybe

WW1 trench wars.
You try to desert because the situation looks behind grim and too many of your comrades died to mustard gas, artillery, snipers and machine guns.
In the beginning you have to flee from enemies that are trying to chase you down. They push you off your initial part and you end up deep in the woods and swamps, while still hearing the artilleries blasting in the distance.
Things start to become more and more surreal and someone is obviously still following you.
You also start to get hallucinations, caused by your previous traumas, the deprivation of morphine, and the remains of gases that are released by the soil.
However, not everything you see and hear seems to be caused by hallucinations...

The Spanish Flu outbreak at the end of World War 1
Set in a war-torn alternative Europe where the Spanish Flu arrived during the closing stages of the war and infection rates skyrocketed, the player character is a lone volunteer American infantryman who had been attached to a British rifle squad. Since the outbreak of Spanish Flu, America has re-entered isolationism and left its soldiers in Europe to fend for themselves. The player character abandons his previous unit to try to make his way back to Allied territory and find a way to get home, but is stopped in a remote French village that had been turned into a military depot, where testing on airborne chemical weaponry has created something similar to a zombie plague.
The soldier must fight through the zombified villagers and military occupants to try and find a cure for the worsening pandemic of chemically altered Spanish Flu, while also staving off bouts of severe Shellshock.
The game takes place in a french village, the chateau overlooking the town, and the military bunker built into the chateau's basement.

Because the human mind experiences emotional states like fear subjectively and without regards to raw logic. Same reason a movie can be scary more than once.

You replied to the wrong post dude.

Fucking this. I thought that this would be amazing the second I clicked on the thread. This could be great if you are a survivor of a collapsed settlement after a sea people attack that was to weak to repulse them and now are trying to survive in the wilderness on your own with bronze age tech. throw in other settlements/groups/vagabonds to possibly hook up with and maybe Greek/Middle Eastern Mythology to haunt you and you could have a fun game

I'd just sequence break and invent gunpowder. Technically a stoneage level invention.

Black Death

Kulaks dindu! They were good, hardworking people! In fact, so hardworking, they couldn't unclench their fists even in their sleep.

>Black death
I'd prefer death of blacks

You play as a prostitute in Victorian London, you are attempting to solve a number of clues whilst being stalked by Jack the Ripper. Jack isn’t just like a standard survival horror monster who runs screaming at you, but is an intelligent, dangerous human being, who tries to sneak up on you when not moving, chases you when you spot him, tries to trap you down alleyways.

The Siege of Kaffa.
You are an inhabitant of the city as it is being besieged by an army of crazy horse people. If they win you are dead. As if that isn't bad enough, they start catapulting corpses into your city. Suddenly people begin to fall ill and you decide to flee to Italy for safety. Except you have already been infected by the Black Death and have brought the disease to Europe proper. Close to half the population of the continent dies in the coming century.

Having seen a lot of let's plays of Alien Isolation, I can confirm that I'd get suitably hyped for this sort of game.
Also, Hello Neighbor.

There's probably some low-effort shit like that on steam by some neckbeard for 19 cents or something.

The donor party is one brutal event.

Thera eruption + Mycenean conquest of the Minoan civ.
Mostly cause of those tits.

Imagine a game like that which has dwarf fortress/Minecraft level geology but is otherwise just an open-world rpg and allows you to metagame by inventing shit that doesn't exist by way of emergent gameplay.
You wouldn't have to invent guns, just make IEDs like Kirk did with the Gorn.

The greatest fear: incompetence and performance anxiety.

but user, battlefield 1 exists already

Wait people fear performance anxiety? I could use mine to scare criminals back into the shadows.

I'm generally not a fan of the sort of hyperbolized, hyper-violent, primitive depictions of Mesoamerican civilizations you see in most media, since it's really inaccurate and perpetuates people being misinfoirmed about what those socities were actually like and how complex they really were

But I can't deny that a survival horror game set in a super violent pastiche of Aztec culture with all of their sacrifice stuff and blood and skeletal iconography turned up to 11 wouldn't be really fucking sick.

Check out Aztez, it's a CURAYZEE beat em up set during the rise of the Aztec Empire, with the different stages being actual specific Aztec cities with their historical landmarks; and actually goes for a (albiet heavily stylized) speffically aztec visual aeshetic rather then just mixing Aztec, Maya, Olmec, etc stuff in a blender

The famine is blamed on Stalin but pretty much everyone fucked up. There were problems with harvesting and Stalin wanted to modernize the industry so he launched a collectivization campaign. The thing is it made the famine worse, and it the same time Kulaks burned their crops as some sort of protest. Pretty much the whole things was a shitshow.

>oh noo there's mud, icky pooey mom come help me

Nah. It is coming eventually. I just don't like how much emphasis they are putting on everything but the simulation. They are focusing on a fictional campaign and the Irish city where titanic was docked.
