Which ABXY button layout do you prefer?
Why?
Which ABXY button layout do you prefer?
Xbox is more ergonomic.
Fuck the New 3DS pisses me off so much. They made the perfect design and then left it exclusive to Japan
Xbox's makes more sense but I'm already used to Nintendo's
why, my peenus weanus of course :)
right because nintendo has been using that since the SNES. i can never adjust to xbox controls
Why did other manufacturers use ABXY instead of ABXZ?
I like the xbox set up. Prefer those 3ds pastel colored buttons tho.
I grew up with a Dreamcast and PS2, so left works best for me. Though, when I pick up a 3DS, I do well in auto-converting from what I'm used too.
The A/B buttons of Nintendo but the X/Y of Xbox. We call it ABXY but on neither layout can you start on A and hit all buttons in that order (clockwise or counter) in a perfect circle.
Who fucking gives a shit, the buttons are in the same arrangement, all that changes is which button is labeled with what letter
I LITERALLY have aspergers and not even i'm autistic enough for this shit
A and X are closer to the natural rest position
yeah man... its not like im used to the button button being "confirm" instead of "cancel", and vice-versa
nintendo's is fucking stupid.
PS & Xbox have it right.
sorry but this one was weak
Sega/M$ layout. Nintendo's has always been retarded.
my main console is PS4. i got a switch and holy shit I press the wrong button so fucking much. When playing BotW I am ALWAYS canceling out of menus by accident because Im so used to A/confirm button being on the bottom.
IMO it just feels more natural for confirm to be the main, center button on the bottom. I dont like how switch does it where A is just on the right...why? Maybe its classic because of SNES, but it feels so unnatural.
You can thank PlayStation or dumb developers for that.
People should be allowed to customize key bindings much like the Japanese PSVita allows one to do so.
nah, they got it right. nintendo always had it wrong
>exclusive to Japan
uh then why am i playing DQ8 on my n3DS decorated with the no. 52 Kyary Pamyu Pamyu cover case?
I'm used to the Nintendo layout and the Playstation layout. And PS and Xbox are the same so if I go to my normie friends house I'll be ok.
BotW button mapping in general is retarded
but this
wut. on PS games, X is usually confirm
Xbox for western games. Nintendo for Japanese games. I find the it funny that A is always confirm and B is always back/cancel. The X and Y buttons are the only issue I have with Nintendo controllers since I'm so used to Xbox at this point.
can you read?
>hmm yes letters of the alphabet, makes sens--
>sony gives us a fucking triangle
why did they do it
Originally Circle was intended to confirm and X was intended to cancel like the Super Nintendo but developers got lazy and decided to reverse the order and PlayStation never did anything.
Nintendo, because they came first and Xbox made it confusing by stealing it and flipping the buttons around. Also, Circle is confirm and X is cancel. In what universe is an X confirm and a circle cancel? How did this shit start with western PS games?
>Xbox made it
I'd call you underage, but the Dreamcast was already having its grave dug by 2001.
They released it in America. I bought one at Target in 2018.
I literally forgot the Dreamcast existed
>developers got lazy and decided to reverse the order and PlayStation never did anything.
What does this have to do with laziness? They wanted to reverse the buttons, which was odd but they did it.
xbox made it logical. no shit the confirm button will be front and center
Because in the west a circle with an X in it is considered confirming an option whereas a blank circle means the opposite. It's a cultural thing.
Every Sega controller read left to right.
what do you mean? that's exactly the same 3DS I own
The one that I played with first
I meant Sony got lazy and never did anything. The developers just got stupid.
Japan uses a circle like they would a check mark. They use an X like a “no”. In the west, we use X because we are fucking stupid.
Personally i prefer the GameCube one
Because FUCK SEGA amirite
>Not going changing the default controls of every game before starting
Why do controllers still have the Start button?
Furthermore, why are controllers even the standard for input in gaming when keyboards and mice existed before them and are more optimal inputs?
I actually kind of agree. I like how A is the "main" button, I wish there were newer controllers that did this.
>Why do controllers still have the Start button?
Should we tell him?
If we wanna get anal, none of the current first party controllers still call it a start button.
>console game
>changing controls
X should be on the left (x axis), and y should be on the top (y axis).
I think A works better on the right as it's usually the most used of the face buttons and is comfier to rest my thumb on than the lower button. I guess neither side got it perfect.
They released it in NA as part of the Black Friday deal so enjoy those prices. The last time I checked a couple months back the black one was like $300 and the white one was around $240 new. Europe and Australia got it as a regular release though.
Sega/Xbox, and I say this as someone who grew up on Nintendo
>all these zoomers
I prefer Nintendo's layout simply because it's what I used first. It took me a month to fully get used to the Xbox layout while switching between the two.
I find PS the best for face buttons. For Nintendo vs Xbox only, I prefer Nintendo’s, despite it not reading in the proper order - Nintendos layout makes sense given the history of their controller design, and they’ve just kept with it. Sony followed their function anyway, developers just swapped the X and O
I really liked the Gamecube controller in general. Except for that horrible D-Pad. I remember when they announced the Wavebird and kept saying it would have a bigger one, then it actually came out and was only like 10% larger.
why cant it all just be UNIFORM
Which is why just using symbols that aren’t letters makes the most universal sense
>the gray and purple one
my nigga
haha!
I kind of prefer the XBox one because it usually means that down will be confirm and right will be to cancel. Regardless, down is the jump button.
Because of stubbornness, appeasing current fans, and copyright (Sony has the best setup but they obviously own that)
I use a keyboard because I'm not a drooling retard, lol
I prefer the Xbox layout, because I never had the opportunity to learn the muscle memory of the Nintendo layout on a controller. Mine was a SEGA Genesis house, so I never had a SNES, and Nintendo didn't use their regular layout on a home console for three console generations. I owned both a DS and 3DS, but by that point, I was already more used to the Playstation layout of "confirm" being at the bottom and "cancel" being on the right.
Just please 1 button scheme. It's so hard to fucking go back and forth between xbox and Nintendo shit because they use the same letters but In different positions. Ffs either use symbols or different letters
This is why kbm is superior
It's completely arbitrary, since control functions are mapped to the same cardinal direction regardless of what the button is labeled. It is entirely trivial to switch between brands.
There's really no answer to this- most people will just prefer whichever they grew up with or use the most.
If pushed, I'd go with the xbox layout simply because it keeps OK and cancel in the same positions as on a Playstation pad (outside Japan, obviously).
I grew up with Nintendo controls, didn't end up owning an Xbox until my mid-teens, and have no preference.
Sometimes, but not necessarily. Nintendo’s own controllers are designed with the A being the primary resting spot of the thumb in mind
The sega/xbox layout because Y is in the Y axis and X is in the X axis and it makes more sense.
I never noticed that.
The one that came first you underage swine.
This is only confusing between Xbox and Nintendo.
Even when you can change in-game action controls, console games almost never allow you to change the inputs for confirm and cancel.
Gamecube controller remains perfection and get continued first party support thanks to smash.
Only downside is that there is no home button.
No it isn't. Circling something is to bring attention to it. Xing or crossing something out means it incorrect or expired. We use check marks to denote approval or confirmation.
The rereleases of the controller have an added home and screenshot button on them
I prefer xbox's, but I can change on the fly to whatever I'm holding.
SNES which is why I hated the Xbox buttons in PC games but over the years, I've started to get used to it.
For any Ninty kiddies who keeps trying to convince everyone that X above and Y on the side is "correct"
Why do i get so hard when i push the L and R buttons?
All they did was turn the buttons clockwise and move the A button to the center.
xbox
Ill move your A button to the centre
Nintendo's much better.
Fact
We use X b/c it's blue.
Blue = good
Red = bad
>x-button literally in all four possible positions
Yes that is the entire point of the image but it still bears repeating.
As an IDORT:
Triangle
Square - Circle
X
is by far the best layout.
I grew up with it but I don't like how it's somehow harder to quickly tap Y and then A one after the other. On Wii U/Switch and even SNES controllers it's really easy to do, also easier to hold two buttons down at the same time.
>all these retards talking about the gamecube controller as being great
It's only great for Smash, Mario Kart and 3d Zeldas. Ever try using it with an emulator, like say... playing Super Punch-Out? Real Fighting games? Shooters? It's awful.
Yes thank you for explaining the differences of the button layouts to us
The Nintendo one fucking blows. Annoys the shit out of me because it's just the 360 layout with each pair of buttons reversed.
Xbox One has the best analog sticks
you can't even argue against this
But-But the 360 one is just the Nintendo layout with each pair of buttons reversed.
D pad is also really comfortable to use honestly
Best controller in general desu
This is why I dont hold the anti MS sentiment some do. They have some good products.
It really doesn't matter. Developers should be assigning the buttons based on what is the most ergonomic or natural, not just arbitrarily assigning them based on A=confrim/action.
should be like this and you can't convince me otherwise.
A is where your thumb rests naturally, the bottom one should be the one that you go to press the most, it should be A, while resting on A your thumb naturally points towards the left, therefore that should be B, when playing a game that requires you to hold one to run these are the two buttons you will be using, they should be A and B.
So I will say snes is MORE correct but both are wrong.
No one's going to try to convince someone who has decided to believe the most anti-ergonomic setup is most efficient because that person is crazy.
Nintendo's is the worst just because they can't stay consistent.
>NES Mario uses A for jump
>SNES Mario uses B for jump
>N64 and Gamecube Mario go back to A for jump
>Wii Mario uses an unholy mix of A, 2, and waggle for jumping
>Wii U and Switch Mario go back to B again
Right.
Nintendo invented the layout, everyone should use it by their standards.
Same here. Cube button layout was 11/10. Only needs a better D-pad and larger hand grips.
>quicktime events in dreamcast games
OH FUCK WHERE BUTTON
and the layout of the controller changes also
you autistic fuck
Pretty much every console has a different color or button combination so this is correct.
Fuck, you're right user. I never realized that until now. You, good user, win the internet for tonight on giving our pointless knowledge.
They released it in Australia and NZ alongside the XL model, and later in the US as a more limited run. Didn't Europe get it as well?
I prefer left, because of the order being somewhat alphabetical. B is to the right of A, Y is to the right of X.
A is a hard confirm and most commonly used button, it's placement is in a place that is most often covered by contact. So the rest of the setup is designed around A's placement.
X is an alternate or "soft" confirm, so it should be at a natural rest or point of contact. B is a "back" or superior confirm (uncommonly used), it should be somewhere that forces a decision to be made, therefore not at a natural rest point, and should be somewhere that forces removal of contact from the A button. Y is a miscellaneous button that should mirror A's usage or complement B's usage.
TLDR; you're a contrarian retard
xbox is better
are you literally a cripple to require that?
Thank Sony of America for flipping the confirmation button, Microsoft only followed suit after that. In Japan they still use O for confirm, even JP games on the Xbox use its B for consistency.
Bottom button should be jump/confirm.
Left button should be attack.
Right button should cancel and some other gameplay function.
Top button should be menu/inventory OR another gameplay function.
This is objectively wrong, cancel and confirm are ALWAYS swapped between Nintendo and other brands.
*blocks your path*
Too bad none of them are games.
sticks are fine, I just don't like the shape, shoulders or face buttons at all.
I read a lot on Yea Forums about this controller that just doesn't line up with my experience, people say it feels just like the 360 controller, it felt way different to me, people tell me it's better for people with big hands but I found it cramped and the ds4 way roomier.
Maybe they're talking about wide hands? I don't know, I have big long spooky skeleton fingers and the bone pad feels cramped for me.
