It's the reason Earthbound and shit like Fire Emblem got popular in the west. Even Ayumi Tachibana was considered for a Smash position at one point. Imagine how different things would have been if she had gotten in Melee? We would've gotten western releases and possibly even sequels. Same goes for Lip, Takamaru, F-Type and a bunch of other great first party characters that Nintendo never used.

Piranha Plant is an extremely shitty character choice. Plant represents a series that already has too many characters, and is nothing more than a minor enemy that gains no benefit whatsoever from being in Smash - it doesn't represent an underrated series that needs more love, it's just a troll pick that objectively has no reason to be in. It also opens the door for more generic enemies to get in the game which would be pure cancer. Smash does not need to become MUGEN. We need more main stars and less generic baddies.
