Begin game

>begin game
>you are given a choice between a peashooter, a standard rifle, or a rare end-game rocket launcher with tons of ammo that bypasses 90% of all locked doors/containers and trivializes combat

...what the fuck were they thinking?

ahdunno

they are banking on you not knowing what a GEP gun is

I...
I...

Thats how you make fun of amateurs
And how you get veterans to start replaying without going "the first few hours is a pain because the combat setup is terrible"

Deus Ex is a poorly balanced game. There's literally only one weapon worth using for each combat skill.

sometimes you gotta pick them off from a distance

It takes up too much inventory and I always play stealth anyhow. Sometimes you need to make a silent take down.

Woah

if you play deus ex like that you really missed the point of the narrative.

I thought you were a GEP gun

It was a retard test, if you chose anything else, congratulations.

A GEP gun takedown is always the most silent takedown

The whole pacifist thing kinda gets swept under the rug after the first few missions

really wish there was more I could say

Its a game built around a playstyle you choose yourself. its not just about good weapon bad weapon. it is a IMMERSIVE sim

This
My first time through Deus Ex I thought a GEP gun was some kind of shotgun

>not taking the sniper rifle to piss off paul

But what about silent takedowns?

Except the animations for mirrors in Deus Ex are incredibly bad. Even Duke Nukem 3D did it better.

>not baiting Paul into aggroing on NSF soldiers so he ends up running around the whole island murdering them all

>he never played the multiplayer

the gep gun is the creaking skull of deus ex

Might as well start using coke.

I don't have much of a business

UNATCO?

Has anyone tried Deus Ex: Revision on Steam?
Seems to be mostly graphical changes, wanted to try it on my next replay.

The GEP gun takedown is always the most silent way to eliminate Manderley.

Savage

stealth is fun for the first 3 levels or so, then it become a fucking chore

UNATCO?

Saw someone, a guy in a coat.

Revision takes too many liberties with the design, avoid it all costs. Play GMDX, v10 was just released some time ago, it's great.

U-
UNATCO?

it's trash, play GMDX

S A V A G E

One annoying thing is that it prevents you from accessing a lot of its content if you haven't already beaten the game, as if a revision mod will appeal to people who have never played the original and will have it spoiled for them.

Quit screwing around

Been giving vanilla Deus Ex a shot over the last week or so and it's fun. I'm at the catacombs, captivated as hell, enjoying that casual 90's-00's carefree conspiracy theory vibe and holy fuck.

I never really got far after the breakout sequence because I'm a coward when it comes to sequences like it. Thank you to whoever posted a Deus Ex thread last saturday xx

Stick with the prod.

also I love how you can pinpoint the moment I stopped going for a nonlethal minimalist playstyle. It's just a shame that the reveal about Maggie working for MJ12 was ruined because I threw a chair across the room.

BOMB?

They were thinkin' about giving the player a choice to play their way.

>MJ12 Trooper
>*cough*

DEPENDS.

ok give me some starting stats for a new play through. They can be anything good or bad.

Heavy Weapons primary with Pistols as your secondary.

*lip smack*

This posting sucks.

DX1's voice acting has so many lip smacks in it.

The G.E.P. gun takedown is the most silent way to eliminate Manderly.

PAUL......I hurt my weenie

The GEP gun is best way for a silent approach

ICARUS

I DON MUV OUTTA DA WAYH

Play your way. Stealth or explosions. This is GOOD DESIGN.

People would be more encouraged to play as a pacifist if, in the endgame, when you chose to merge yourself with Helios, it would check your playstyle, and see if you were a pacifist or a murder machine and then it would become more or less aggressive when ruling over mankind. I thought that would happen so mg first time was a no-kill route.

I literally couldn't finish the tutorial without the gep gun.

I don't use the sticky launcher.

There's no point in the narrative. The whole game comes down to a decision you make at the last minute that determines the ending and nothing you did previously matters. Deus Ex is an overrated game.

>linear narrative has same ending
well yeah lol

>DUDE IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME LMAOOOOO
Except the other 2 weapons are easily found in the first mission. There's literally no point in not picking the GEP gun.

And here we see the type of retard that thinks Deus Ex was a good game.

It's alright. I get the suspicion that most of the naysayers in this thread and in general haven't played it, they just shit on it because it was hyped and in development for like a decade. It has some neat surprises if you've beaten DX to death, just disable the "updated" models.

GMDX is infinitely better though, arguably better than vanilla. Play them both I say.
