Everything from the prequel era is cool as fuck except for the actual fucking movies. Battlefront II, both Clone Wars series, Republic Commando, etc had far more engaging stories.

Why did they give 8 to Rian in the first place? JJ I could understand since his Trek films at least carry some pedigree for a sci-fi romp, but Rians biggest movie is like a 7/10 on IMDB. I can't imagine Disney would have had a problem finding a better director, so why did they pick Rian?

Rian is a hack but Lucas's quote is pretty limiting, there's only so many ways you can tell a classic fantasy story where everyone lives happily ever after before it gets old. I understand why Rian wanted to subvert elements of the series, he just did a terrible job (partly because he had JJ's poor foundation to work with).
