Sirocco is not party friendly and is annoying to go around it everytime you cast one, especially since it auto fatigues on mere touch
Stinking Cloud and Cloudkill on the other hand you can make your entire party immune to via Delay Poison Communal so that's not an issue.

Druids are pretty fucking busted in this game, you get an overpowered pet and full caster progression with no real downsides.

you will need to give it some good buffs so it is not just a wall of HP, but haste,blur/displacement, bull's strength etc will keep it useful for a long time (and later on you can do some even better enhancements)

the actual unusual thing about it is that the difficulty settings are actually worth something and not just story mode-boring-slightly challenging like in every other rpg.

It's a Primal Dire Bear. If it is similar to PF it means it has bonuses on top of being simply a Dire Bear (which has +8 natural armour)

You can finish the game with 0 critical bugs, though small shit will pop up. But they release hotfixes frequently.
Kingdom management is more flexible and there are some extra tangible rewards now for raising kingdom stats (like arcane giving you more scrolls at shops and letting you build teleportation towers to zip around the map). Also extra roleplaying opportunities with yoru advisors and your decisions. Still, morst things in Kingdom management are flavor or feed into itself.
Encounters are nowhere near that long or tedious. Only in chapter 1 and endgame, but the former because you are weak as shit and the later because they overdid it. For 80% of teh game ,a good party should be done in a few turns.

Bugs got ironed out to an acceptable state overall and kingdom management has been upgraded a tad but there is still a ton of loading unless you're on an SSD

I'm honestly not sure on what balance changes they have made, but yeah average encounters still don't really challenge you tactically much while being kind of just filler time-wise. Just look up an OP build or play on easy and those can be stomped through though, and I promise the game is good enough to be worth it even if most combat isn't engaging kinda like PS:T but not on the same level writing-wise obviously.

Not much, at least withing acceptable levels. Some companions are sentient garbage but since you can ignore them and they eventually die if you dont do their quests, I'd say it is perfectly playable.

You have months downtime between most main quests (except after chapter 3). And you can do a project to cut it to 1 week eventually.

That's pretty clearly by design though, it would be laughably trivial to solve every Kingdom problem with ages to spare otherewise.

I like melee arcane trickster: cast sense vital, cast improved invisibility, cast greater heroism, cast tenser's transformation, kill every boss in 30s max.

Nope, the game's difficulties are extremely shittily balanced. And looking at the monster's attack and damage is even more funny. I kinda like the 8D6 damages of enraged owlbear, for example (+str bonus, but it's peanuts compared to the roll).

Character building is very good because of the number of classes and feats. It is also pretty obscure if you don't play PnP and you can easily make a totally useless character. Spells are very diverse and fun. The story is OKayish, but to be honest the gameplay is almost exclusively oriented towards fights, as opposed to Torment or Neverwinter Nights 2 (or PoE or DOS).

How bad is the need to min/max? I would like to go in completely blind.

If you don't know how to build efficient characters classwise and featwise, you will have to play easy or story mode.

Its much better than the dullest RPG of all time. Each attempt Obsidian makes to create their own universe rather than simply deconstruct a setting made by others, has been more disastrous than the last. Aside from the outdated gameplay and lifeless cities, Pillars of Eternity's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of combat mechanics, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Sawyer vetoed the idea of making anything at all innovative or original; he made sure the game would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable nostalgia pandering to ageing Baldur's Gate fans. Pillars of Eternity might be anti-casual(or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Divinity series in its refusal of spontaneity, fun and excitement.

The writing is dreadful; the narrative was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time I engaged in dialogue with an NPC the game presented me with a Wiki-page style infodump instead of anything resembling actual human conversation.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time this was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Sawyer's mind is so governed by obsession with pointless minutiae of the lore that he has no other style of writing.

Later I read a lavish, loving review of Pillars of Eternity by the same David Gaider. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kiddies are playing Obsidian games at 17 or 18, then when they get older they will go on to enjoy Dragon Age II." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Pillars of Eternity" you are, in fact, trained to shill for Bioware.

Permanent, as in not going away with time and one must do something about them. You can rest, but it's just -1 damage point per character per stat for one full night's rest.

I'm few hours in, following Tartucio into the second dungeon.
I was raised on games like BG2. Here are my thoughts.

Yeah it's a tad diappointing, the intro has a puzzle room and plenty of dialogue/flavor, but it takes a nosedive from there. Just finished Valley of the Dead, and it was just slashing away, and being interrupted by the birb a couple of times

Back on release the 2H fighter in the group had pretty high ab and could deal 20~ per hit, while the mage cast Scare (he still does)

How does coup de grace work?

No guns is sad, they were fun in Pathfinder. Steady damage, no real way of increasing it, but it's all touch attacks with awful critical failures. If I make my own party are they faceless automatons or do they have personalities?

It's an ability on your action bar like charge but it only works if the target is unconscious or stunned, when you do use it you get a guaranteed crit.

Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.

I don't see the problem with palying verison 1.3 with the disble EE npcs mod. Modding the old game is fine but there are quality of life improvements in EE that mods for the original game can't provide - one of them being the zoom feature. Playing the game at 1080p will make everything extremely tiny.

Worth it alone for the ability to teleport directly from your throne room to world map and auto run. It cuts out most of the tedious walking that you had to do in the initial release.

Crit range is always better, especially in PF where almost nothing is immune to crit.
Reach is always great, especially for the beginning, but later on you have enough of a steady long lasting supply of Enlarge Person to give you reach (however enlarge + reach weapon means even bigger reach)
Remember to always have Enlarge Person on your 2hander, size increases are amazing and highly upgrade your base damage, Fauchard which is 1d10 becomes 2d8 with Enlarge, and later 3d8 with Legendary Proportions.
Enlarge also gives you a size bonus to STR which stacks with gear bonuses/bulls strength
Basically you are soon hitting like motherfucking godzilla
Bigger reach means you attack from further away, protecting your frail glass cannon 2h ass, and also trigger certain abilities futher away like trip, attack of opportunity, cleave

After initial launch? Certainly. There's a bit more game with the new DLCs, the vast majority of the bugs are gone, and there's loads of QoL improvements to pretty much everything.

There are many qol of changes unique to the EE update and also a ton of others from previous patches like better far more descriptive kingdom ui/magement screens, throne room to worldmap teleport, coup de grace, a ton new enchanted weapons of types that were ignored before like many exotics, mercs can be assigned advisor roles, teleporting between built kingdom settlements, respec, faster movement speed outside of combat, ability to hide backpack/class helmet, one new base class and prc

Bad scores from
1. bugs, it had many and it's justifiable, however the dev team is pretty small and the game has a massive scope
2. zoomer complaints about difficulty because they don't understand the mechanics and are too proud to lower difficulty since they expect to be able to zerg the harder modes with barely any knowledge or minmaxing, DESPITE the fact the difficulty is highly customizable.

this game isnt even that hard. just play a CHAD min maxed archer with the devourer of metal and its not even difficult

Let me give you literally the most decried "difficulty spike" in the game. Near the beginning, you go into a cave and fight a couple "swarms" of small spiders. Swarm is a type of enemy that take minimal damage from anything that isn't AoE. They do have a weakness to fire which the player will have access to, but not fire AoE, still limiting their damage.

This is why the NPC who gives you the quest to go fight them tells you about Swarms, and tells you he sells fire flasks that will hard counter them. People didn't get it.

So they changed it to the NPC just GIVING you flasks and telling you to use them. People didn't get it.

They did like a half dozen passes at this shit, I think eventually they had a literal fucking pop up TELL YOU TO USE FLASKS, and people still didn't get it.

Now they've just moved them to their own cave off the beaten path, because people could not figure it out.

What kind of weapons and armor type should my party use?
Valerie has a bastard sword, heavy armor and a tower shield, Linzi has light armor and a light crossbow. What about Harrim, Nok Nok and Octavia?

Isn't it kinda self-explanatory for each of them? Harrim is a dwarven cleric, so build him like a tank. Nok Nok is a kukri sneak attacker so give him kukri. Octavia is Arcane Trickster, s no armor, auto ray casting.

The Animal Companion IS immune BUT different centipedes MIGHT be implemented differently!

Well gee, then don't play on fucking Hard/Unfair.
Normal or Challenging with enemy stats toned down to default are perfectly beatable with whatever builds so long as you play it with a you know, p a r t y;

Nok-Nok is for kukris and his quests give him special kukris plus there are other ones made for him
Octavia is for spells with sneak attack with arcane trickster, failing that heavy crossbow/shortbow
Harrim is for any 2H with reach or any 2H while enlarged for reach
Linzi is for crossbows and shortbows like octavia
Linzi is for Shortbow
There is no point to tank with Harrim if you already have Valerie, enlarge Harrim and have him go all out with 2hj weapons behind Valerie

Divine spells don't suffer casting failure from armor, only arcane spells do.

From memory the way it works is that you can try and sometimes if another party member has the stills to help you they will interrupt and save it for you, but it isn't consistent enough that I'd rely on it.

Just carefully read their stat sheets. It's pretty self-explanatory how the devs want you to build those characters.

Armor would mess with his naturally high dex.

Just put points into persuasion, assuming it's your class skill. Charisma is not that important in the long run.

The vast majority of checks are not main character only, only a super small amount of them are, even then there's usually multiple choices to check instead of just a single one.
You don't really need high persuasion on MC at all.
I use Valerie as my persuasion/intimidate cow
Also the checks that are MC only are usually smaller and easier to pass so you don't need to fully devote yourself to Persuasion.

98% of the time your companions can take care of the checks, the one with highest skill gets chosen for the task automatically.

There are MC only checks. And if you're a caster you want persuasion so you can turn off shared exp on skill checks and hoover up those big 35+ DC checks for yourself since spell level's king. There's one early on in the Sunny Hillock just beyond the Verdant Chambers that nets you 23k, an area accessible at level 5-7

Yes. The MC only checks are usually for some minor kingdom dialogue only that doesn't really change shit of note.

They DO give experience user! Most successful skill checks do it IS good!

One thing to note is that there is now a robe early on in the first 8 levels of the new dlc dungeon (accessible in or just after CH2) that gives a +10 bonus to persuasion. That and skill focus persuasion on its own is a +16 at level 10 so with 10 points in persuasion and with a flat 10 CHA that'd be +26 which is more than enough to feasibly hit most checks

I turn her into Druid since you get animal companion which are OP, and also because there's no druid party member and she's the only one where it fits rp wise, even if her wisdom is low it's not an issue since she can still cast many a strong buffs which druid also excels at

Put it into persuasion anyway and save scum for those MC only rolls.

And how should I level her? Should I stop at barbarian 4 and go full druid from here?

1 level dip is enough before going back to Barbarian for all the good rage feats, then do whatever you want with the rest.

Make her a Feyspeaker or Sylvan Sorc for animal companion with a dash of Thug and Dazzling Display for fear debuff or Kinetic Knight. Fighter/Thug Val works too but tanking shit and twirling her sword around is all she'll be doing

Ideally if you wanted her to druid then you should go Druid starting from 2 otherwise your spellcasting progression is far too delayed, and then get the boon companion feat at 3
If you get her at Druid at 5+, she'll learn spells very late but will still have a pretty powerful animal companion which quite frankly is strong enough on its own, with boon companion a druid 15 would have the animal companion of a druid 18. But like I said casting whise she'd be too stunted

level 3 as thug, get dazzling display
invest in persuasion, she's now a mean shaken/fear machine as soon as level 3.
