MGS V is as high as she'll ever get, and hell, that was a pretty decent game. Nothing to be ashamed of. She could have had her one role be in the garbage that was MGS 4 instead. That'd be much worse.

Kojima wanted to pull a Hollywood director and show loyalty to old cast picks, hence talking to Stef now that he's in the big leagues, but since he's in the big leagues now he was likely told shortly after not to fill any important roles with any names not already in the circle or capable of drawing an audience outside video games. Hence he couldn't even call her back to correct himself or cancel, as he wasn't supposed to have said anything at all.

If a movie boiled down to a few good moments most would just see the clips on youtube, never paying for or spreading word about it ever again.
