It's interesting to see how they create an entire world and characters around the songs, they make for pretty amazing set pieces and situations. Girls are also pretty nice.

Starting from AR 1 will allow you to get a grasp of the setting. It's a trilogy but the game's mechanics are undeniably dated, it's also very easy so the gameplay is pretty much there to pad the story.

That's never been a rule considering it only applies to AT2.
