Lets be honest with ourselves, online is going to be dominated by people who will boost through entire races, ruining the experience for new and causal players. Why not fuck around with people who are trying too hard at a children's kart game?

Just because console architecture is finally getting closer to that of most operating systems doesn't mean it's an easy cut-and-paste job. Probably the toughest things to accommodate is the fact that you have so many different hardware configurations to accommodate instead of simply 1 model (or maybe an upgraded variant). Not to mention the fact that it also expected to accommodate literally any inputs you can imagine throwing at it and work with the myriad of drivers that come with the territory.
Optimization also needs to be prioritized more heavily due to the higher likelihood of low-end machines being used to run the game, things that you can't otherwise hide behind a console's base limitations to barely pass the bar.
It's far easier to port from PC to console than it is the other way around. And you'd be a fool to think Activision wouldn't be pushing for a consoles-first delivery structure.

I got an emulator going to play CTR again when the remake was announced, this was the only one that took more than about three tries. It was probably close to 50, even when I abused the Super Turbo Pad. FUCK that Plat Relic.

I'm not so sure. The Human element will add a lot of chaos. Smarter items and most people knowing the cheese on certain stages will mean that "set play" will be less likely. Obviously being better at boosting and the deeper systems will improve your performance but there is only so much you can do about a nitro box.

You're meant to try and get them all in the first two laps by stopping and angling the kart correctly. Fuck it up and you're wasting entire seconds, miss any boxes and your run is over. Combine this with all the boxes that are mutually exclusive and if you miss once you're fucked, and the ridiculously harsh time even if you do get everything, and it's easily the hardest plat in the game.

If Activision has dollar signs in their eyes, they'll encourage Beenox to do post-release DLC. At that stage the type of content is up in the air between CTTR, Mobile Crash, CTR2010, scrapped stages that never got past the cutting room floor, or completely original tracks.
All bets are off, man. If they deliver a DLC on the scale of physical-era expansions I'd be willing to throw down half the price of the game itself.
