But why?

Healing is supposed to be a risk. You have to slow down to do it and you can't use abilities. This is true to a lot of games but almost every BR game has it. PUBG makes you stand still, Fortnite slows you down, Apex slows you down. Bunnyhop healing was an workaround that made it so you could avoid that risk, and now people are mad because they can't heal at sprint speeds.

More like shitters were mad they couldn't bunnyhop.

You can still bhop heal with the fast characters and if you do it downhill, it's just not as easy as before.
Honestly, bhop heals were pretty worthless a lot of the time anyways against players that could actually aim, it wasn't just a free get out of jail card so the basic rhythm of the game didn't change that much at all.
Apex doesn't need to return to the spotlight, it already has a pretty core fanbase and cemented itself as the free alternative to Fortnite if you actually like shooters instead of autistic building shit.
The whole elite thing was also a really good addition, it both filters shitters to their own queue and the TTV autists apart from them, they really need to work on making the basic circle faster though since a lot of shitters tend to just camp and loot for 20 entire fucking minutes just to get top 5 and then quick drop in skulltown the next match just to get dabbed on by anyone with actual skill.

Competitive modes are somewhat important for the longevity of the game, TF2 tourneys were broken as shit since reddit outright refused to ban hits can weapons and the maps were pretty shit, but comp TF1 was literally the only reason I spent over 1000 hours in that game and why it stayed alive even on PC up until TF2's release
And pubstomping can only be fun for so long, which is literally the same thing that was happening to Apex (and why elite mode was a decent addition all things considered)
