In my opinion it encapsulated the sense of a journey, both physical and personal. The growth of characters of someone especially like Johnny was shown in a very well paced manner and the end of the journey was cathartic.

I mean, it's surprisingly rare in fiction for the villain to lie to the audience. Usually because people want the villain to have some justification, or the reliability of the author as storyteller is important. Usually when a villain lies it'll be proven immediately in the meta-narrative so the audience can wonder how it will affect the protagonist

The actual jail part drags for too long, Dio's sons wind up being useless jobbers, the lot gets rushed to high hell in the last third, some of the Stands just get dumb to the point it's not even cool or fun, some of the least secondary character development since Part 1, and shit like Diver Down, KISS, or Foo Fighters are incredibly under-explored given how cool they could be.

I was under the impression that the new universe created here is the one where SBR and Jojolion take place in, just set at different times within said new universe but apparently, this is incorrect.

They fight everyone BECAUSE of Valentine, Ringo or Wekapipo wouldn't have done shit if Valentine hadn't wanted the corpse for himself.
It's true that Valentine doesn't get much focus until the last quarter of SBR, but he gets some incredibly compelling chapters devoted to him and is written much better than say, Part 3 DIO.
Connection to the main character isn't everything either. I find the fight between Valentine and Johnny better because they have no personal stake, it's just two men with conflicting goals deciding who gets to move forward.
