n the planet Dahna, reverence has always been given to Rena, the planet in the sky, as a land of the righteous and divine. Stories handed down for generations became truth and masked reality for the people of Dahna. For 300 years, Rena has ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping people of their dignity and freedom.
Our tale begins with two people, born on different worlds, each looking to change their fate and create a new future. Featuring a new cast of characters, updated combat, and classic Tales of gameplay mechanics, experience the next chapter in the world-famous Tale of series, Tales of Arise.
In the last thread, I stated since they didn't make a sequel to Legendia, the least they could have done was make an anime to tie up any loose ends. Someone then proceeded to ask me what I meant, but the thread archived before I could ask the exactly what they were referring to.
I don't remember any loose ends, But I really would like to see the rest of that world explored.
Bentley Price
That reminds me of Eternia.
Austin Baker
>That reminds me of Eternia. this
Levi Brooks
I feel like I underestimated Yea Forums's enthusiasm for Tales shit, so glad we can do comfy Tales talk on here once more.
What's everyone's fave Tales game? I'll start >Tales of Symphonia
Austin Sullivan
maybe loose ends isn't the most correct word. I would have like to see some expansion of the mainland, see how the countries are doing after everything settled with the ferines and orenines. It would be nice to know if Chloe resurrected the Valen name, if or when she returns to her home country.
its almost my favorite series might as well be if square fucks up another ff my favorite is graces although i never beat the final dungeon because i played the game on chaos and kept dying to random shit and minibosses before ever finding a save point hope it comes to steam one day because i have no urge to ever start up my ps3 again (which i bought solely for this game, and later the xillias)
I wish the environments were more stylised, they look straight from a NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN post.
Thomas Torres
might not be final it's as easy as moving a slider to change the look in ue4
Adam Davis
It can really only happen at night. I've been in quite a lot of day tales threads, if there happens to even be one, and they are polluted with nonsense.
What do you like about Symphonia? It's definitely one of my favourites having played in countless amount of times. I still believe it has the best boss fights to date, mainly the secret/hard bosses such as Sword Dancer and Abyssion. They felt so satisfying to fight against.
Tales of has always been cookie cutter plots except for some. Its a character driven and the appeal is in the character interactions than the actual story. So far you have 2 templates for Tales of
1.) 2 different worlds at war (or MUH RACISM) 2.) Technology is bad (or Anythinf to do with elemental spirits)
You can have both themes in 1 game even, like Vesperia and Xillia. Its always the same shit every Tales of.
David Adams
how is this graphics possible in ps4? or is it the typical e3 "render"
Caleb Russell
bro it's literally standed ue4 stuff also it's nothing close to games like lou2, horizon, gow etc
Jaxson Wood
This gave me a motivation to finish Berseria. I am about 33hours in, when you revisit Velvet home town. How far from the ending I am?
Easton Adams
you said at the end you wondered who senal chose, what did you mean by that? chose who? I thought he was married to shirley by the plot god
Dylan Watson
took me almost 70 hours to beat the game have fun!
Jack Robinson
Jesus christ
Asher Gonzalez
Did Berseria manage to dodge both of these?
Luis Russell
I don't think that rite of feriyen really meant anything. They certainly don't act as though they are dating. If I remember correctly in the character quest ending they seem to be acting like brother an sister again.
You'll know you're near the end when you go to the snow mountain town near a volcano. I actually did most of the sidequest content and took me 80 - 90 hours to get through, but if would have just rushed through the story it probably would have only took me like 50 - 60 or less.
Just based off the screenshots, logo, and description I'm guessing the swords/sword combat is going to play a huge role which means changing who the playable character is might not be as viable or possible this game. The fact the MC has two swords, one that looks "enchanted"/enflamed and he is unleashing a mega fire attack in one image makes me think that will be the main gimmick.
Also, the big emphasis on the planet arc in the logo and it has two planets in the setting makes me hope there might be some space/sci-fi stuff but we'll see.
Dominic Jones
Graces F is incredibly over hated here. I also found it extremely enjoyable.
Jayden Anderson
no its actually pretty long not persona 5 long, but still too long
David Fisher
user, Shirley never goes neris again at the prospect of Chole and Senal getting romantic fumes around them, bitch is yandere
Tyler Ward
It's just been a pleasant experience the majority of the way through, never found any Tales game to be spectacular but Symphonia would be the cream of the crop in terms of the cast & story. But gameplay-wise, I think Graces f is the most fun for me. though, admittedly, I have only played a handful of Tales games
Jordan Peterson
Is this gonna be some cringe Zestiria shit or some based Berseria shit?
Jason Sullivan
Yeah that was an exception along with Xillia 2
Brandon Hall
Xillia 2. Absolutely love the combat and tragedy. It's so well done imo. I always listen to for the sake of mutual proof and it all comes back to me.
well i mean the story is garbage and so is the mc the combat is so fucking satisfying though that i spent 8 hours straight wiping on emeraude chaos that when i accidentally died to that one super power lonely robot somewhere on the map, i went back the next day and did it again
Levi Hall
Does it matter? The plot in every Tales of game is literally the same
>main character is a male >religious organization has major foothold on the world >religious organization is actually evil >welp looks like you gotta kill the religious organization/their emissary/god
>no big titty edgelord protagonist Shame, that's one thing from Bers they'd do well to carry on with
Owen King
I don't know why but I felt realy angry at the xillia 1 cast there even through I knew they were in the right and dind't want to hear a single weord out of them after killing juilus, maybe it's because it always felt like they were using ludger and he was never as close a friend as they were to each other, which is odd because Emil was a little shit to the symphonia cast yet by the end of it he at least felt like apart of their group, it's Marta I can't stand she's just like Shirley in that her sole desire in life is getting that one dick, Shirley nearly commited genocide for it, Marta dropped her cute girl act and immediately killed Alice said she didn't give a fuck that she did it so casually then went right back to that same tone she always has.
Maybe I just hate characters whose only abmition is to get laid. sodia, from vespiera, despite being a side character is the most recent example I can think of, Yuri is going to lord that flynn thinks of him and loves him more than sodia over her for the rest of her life as revenge for her trying to kill him because she can't say shit because she knows she fucked up and if flynn ever found out about her attempted murder what little chance she could have of him loving her would go up in flames and even if one day he does start loving her yuri can torpedo it at any time by telling flynn his wife to be tried to kill him and he'd dump her ass. she's forever trapped in a personal hell of her making
Thomas Rodriguez
>Modern Ludger >Isekai Ludger
Nolan Cook
How is the Hearts R vita bros?
Julian Davis
Artorious literally wanted to turn the world into aspie zombie nerds with no free will or emotion. I think given the circumstance most people would have sided with Velvet in that situation.
Angel Sanchez
hopefully he's not a silent faggot as well
Blake Thomas
>tfw no big titty monster. >tfw good character design. >tfw using current engine and not a PS2 engine for 14th time. >tfw it looks like this one toke effort. >tfw all of this happend cause Baba was fired.
Best timeline.
Charles Nelson
you literally got punished for playing on higher difficulties some of the materials you needed came from weapons with no modifiers which are quite literally impossible to drop i had to farm on simple a few times just to be able to upgrade some gear, and even then the drop rate was fucking atrocious before the final boss i just said fuck it and cheat engined all the items to 99 because fuck all that disenchanting still farmed my grade from those dire beats though
Henry Reed
Which Fractured Dimension this Ludger came from?
Isaiah James
I started both zestiria and berseria. Quit both pretty quick, what shitty awful games. I ended up watching a playthrough though since I was still interested in the story and character. In that regard, I liked berseria a lot, and velvet is probably one of my favorite characters in anything. I hope this new one is actually a decent game.
It's absolute garbage, worst translation I ever read in my entire fucking life.
Jason Ortiz
Artorius' plan involved a large number of mass suicides and people even killing their own cats and dogs
Dudes evil
Tyler Garcia
beat berseria quite a while ago decided to go back since I had nothing better to do so far I found another ~10 hours of side content I didn't know existed comfy series also it seems like the fucking tripfag that would do nothing but dump images in tales threads finally got perma'd so that's a big plus
Just strip everyone of their will and turn them into soulless suicidal NPCs just because some retarded villagers are responsible for your wife's deaths, this will surely fix the world.
Alexander White
feels like a classic Tales game. battle system is what you would expect with a couple of new techniques like instant transportation and countering. definitely my favourite out of the modern bunch.
We didn't get Flynn Guy's outfit What makes you think notLudger will get Ludger's outfit?
Nathan Phillips
>dungeons and puzzles When was the last time we had these anyway, I don't really remember. I guess you could count Zestiria's shepherd shrines if you wanted.
Samuel White
The only thing stopping Xillia 2 from being my favorite is Ludger being a silent protagonist. I don't know what the FUCK they were thinking but it just hinders what would otherwise be a good plot
>linear dungeons with no puzzles >boring, overly large overworld sections with a shit ton of enemies in between towns and dungeons >extremely lazy copy+paste RNG endgame dungeon with reskinned bosses and overworld maps easily the biggest sins Berseria was plagued with outside of its shitty equipment system. Had a great cast of characters and decent story but fuck the design of certain things.
Luis Price
so far there was earthen historia, all of zaveid's stuff, kalamoana's medicine, eleanor's questline, the pengyons, sword guy's questline, doing some of the normin minigames I skipped, a few more class 4 zones, and some other stuff every time I finished something, I went through the cities on the world map and there would be a new ! to check out
Chase Scott
I really don't like the new generic unreal engine look but I'll wait to see it in motion before I judge too harshly
Owen Adams
Graces F had a lot of puzzles and some of the most annoying ones in the series.
Justin Harris
What if Arise MC is actually Ludger after the True End of Xillia 2?
Isaac Lewis
I meant like shovelware weebshit. It looks like they went all out for this game and I am very impressed.
Jason Wood
i think i just skipped all the cutscenes at that point
Liam Martin
Symphonia and Xillia 2 Nice to see fans of X2 here; I didn't know they exist. Also, favorite track:
playing through vesperia now and god fuck those store room puzzles with the hammer kid i don't know how anyone does these without a guide, i even fucked up while following a guide
Lucas Stewart
>also it seems like the fucking tripfag that would do nothing but dump images in tales threads finally got perma'd so that's a big plus good riddance
Ethan Green
I've been fastforwarding most of the dialogue but there's still a lot I was burnt out finishing it the first time since the last act dragged forever so I rushed it and didn't realize how much extra stuff there was putting it down for a few months made it bearable again
Joshua Jackson
user, True End is when Ludger gets obliterated from every timeline.
Christian Sullivan
Don't know user, but I thought they were very easy, could do all of them in my first try and I kinda suck at logic puzzles.
Isaiah Campbell
>This character """design""" Yeah this guy is going into the butler DLC costume
Brayden Cooper
Will this be the Monster Hunter World of the Tales series?
Charles Brooks
I mean, I thought they were very easy... and when I compare them with the nightmare that was SMT Nocturne and those box puzzles, like HOLY FUCKING SHIT user.
Hudson Powell
yeah i only did the endgame stuff a year later i think took me a while to get through the endgame dungeon because i had to grind on the way through because the enemy levels started going up so steeply was still beatable but it took way too long
Jaxon Sanders
Only one I screwed up was the first one somehow. The ones that came after were sort of linear(?) or more like there were obvious end steps and then you sort of just worked backwards and it became clear
Kayden Moore
Are we Metal Gear Rising now? Someone photoshop Raiden's Face with his lol.
Tyler Lewis
i've done two of them and i gave up after failing the first one like 3 times seeing the 2nd one being like 4 times the size with 2 different floors i just went on youtube right away
Cooper Ramirez
I can only dream of a Tales game in the REngine. But UE4 is okay.
Jaxson Russell
Someone post the meme image of Baba i can't find it.
Brayden Sanchez
i fucking hate pushing boxes i have ptsd from those ice puzzles in zelda/pokemon/symphonia
Luke Phillips
I hope they show off more areas. Since this is an E3 announcement can we expect a worldwide release for once?
>male lead looks like a more built, edgier Ludger Ok good at least, he isn't a boy hero from the looks of it. Now let's just hope the main girl isn't another generic nice pure white mage girl. Can't quite tell but she's wearing a lot of white so that's concerning.
Connor Morgan
BASED.
Henry Clark
Phantasia. Seriously. I played every Tales game expet Berseria (gonna play it after finish Zestiria) and yet Phantasia is still my favorite.
Christopher Morales
Costumes aren't going to hide his fucking lava stick
Nolan Nelson
yes way fag
Gavin Barnes
How does Vesperia run on Switch? I want to play on the go but I'll buy it on PS4 if it's a shit port or something
Nathaniel Richardson
Last I tried, it had some issues since the games keep switching from 30 and 60fps.
Luis Moore
Luke is pretty interesting as far as Tales MC's go, and Abyss in general is a really good Tales game. I find it very odd why people are so mixed opinion on Abyss.
Norma is really the one who stirs the pot between the two of them, more so in Chloe's favour.
Seems too elaborate for that, I'm assuming the normal sword is the regular equippable weapon and the lava stick is more plot-relevant and some kind of unique mechanic.
Kevin Gray
I wonder if they'll still be co op. Playing through Tales of games with my cousin is something I really miss
Liam Brown
>Ludger cameo fight >Ludger cameo outfit Either one of these will be fine
Gavin Williams
Bro we just had Velvet. At least the male protag is wearing some nice fuckin armor, I missed that shit
I've personally only come across frame rate drops when you link encounter more than 3 enemies; mainly birds or spamming meteor though I think this messes with the other versions too. Otherwise I believe it's a solid 60fps in battle, 30-60?fps everywhere else.
Destiny and Eternia were good (I like Eternia more) but Phantasia is just so comfy
Levi Sullivan
People always give Shirley a hard time but also always seem to forget or leave out a lot of stuff that actually happens. I love all of the girls in Legendia, as well as the guys, so it rubs me the wrong way seeing that happen all the time. Not liking a character is fine, that's a matter of preference, but you see people go a step further sometimes to tear into characters without having all of the information in place.
Luke Sullivan
>apparently really uptight with recasting voices Not really. Stop believing everything you read on Yea Forums. I know VAs are taken much more seriously in japan, but to say they're against recasting? That's just silly.
Lincoln Martinez
>literally every MC is Male >literally most recent entry has feMC what could he have meant by this?
>eternia in shit tier And you were doing so well, just couldn't resist throwing in some edge huh?
Daniel Jones
My only gripe is that this just looks like stock unreal engine shit. Like this is nearly identical to that one Lost Soul Aside game and the dev literally bought stock assets from the store.
Brandon White
You know what they say, ''the first game you played is always the best''. Nope. not in my case.
Austin Barnes
NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN HIRE THIS MAN HE USING UNREAL ENGINE IN ANY WAY HE CAN.
Grayson Thomas
Guys. Will his name be normal like Lloyd and Jude or will it be a special name like Sorey or Asbel?
Jose Miller
>My only gripe is that this just looks like stock unreal engine shit. So like every Bandai Namco game?
Isaac Johnson
I like Rays more even through Asteria has better openings, Rays has some characters who come from post their games so you get to see things you never would have seen before like Mithos actually stop being a faggot, Elaine getting some character for once and Barbartos actually not being a murderous maniac and in my personal love seeing Pasca Kannono talk about her past genocidal actions and how the kindness and mercy of Terssia's decender changed her and Leon being able to be with his maid waifu without his father fucking it up, Asche even being the one to susject that Luka and he pretend to be brothers through I don't know if they're from post game or just post Ashe's death
In Asteria they are natives of that world and are of various factions so things got weird, Kannono Earlheart flat out died in Asteria
I'm just waiting for Lazarus or Winter Kanonno to show up in Rays now to see how she reacts
Jackson Wood
>Sorey or Asbel Sorry, but they can't compete with the best Tales name - Kor Meteor.
Christopher Taylor
Oh I totally agree. I think people just jump on her because once in a while someone will say how awful she is.
best girls look after each other.
great cast. character quests were fucking amazing.
Maybe one wirh an actual strength stat this time, so he doesn't do less damage with his giant ass hammer than two skinny girls do with their quill pens or bubble straws, while at the same time being a inferior mage to them both.
Lucas Barnes
I'm just glad it's a cool looking male MC
Camden Gray
He looks like a beta /fit/ virgin.
John Clark
I liked Innocence even though the gameplay was pretty simple, wish Innocence R was localized or translated
Jace Ward
But they won't ignore a character or throw them out just because the va is gone. In the past they've replaced Nanaly's va after she died and they're guaranteed to get a new one for Eugene since his died last year. Just this month they replaced Rutee's va and the old one isn't even dead.
Aaron Garcia
Man Legendia just nailed it so hard with the characters. They're all visually distinct and striking in a line up, all their personalities are developed and mostly multifaceted and they interact with each other in the sense of a larger group rather than just lazily getting paired off into smaller, easier to write sets.
I also love Legendia for having a bandit as an eventual party member. If you never paid attention to the cover or the opening of the game, you'd never have guessed someone like Moses would have become a party member later on.
doesnt help, xillia 2 needs to run at 60 fps for combat and skits 30 fps for everything else and rpcs3 cant handle switching mid game, graces f requires the same thing but rpcs3 handles it even worse and can't run combat at the right framerate without fucking with the speed of the game
rpcs3 still has a long way to go, best bet is modding your ps3 to play em free which is pretty simple to do and playing it on that
Jacob Baker
Funnily enough, he's a dad, so he's one of the few Tales party members that is 100% confirmed not to be one.
Julian Smith
New Tales era. Might be cool. Hopefully they replaced Sakuraba.
Nathaniel Baker
>you'd never have guessed someone like Moses would have become a party member later on This take surely isn't coming from someone well-versed in JRPGs. Minor villains become party members all the time.
Leo Jenkins
I never played the ds version but i can tell you that R gameplay is really good >wish Innocence R was localized or translated Maybe in the future
literally every tales games has a traitor there's even a category for it in one of the card games in berseria(?)
Aiden Thompson
>tfw this is how Ludger would look like in Unreal Engine 4
Justin Hill
has there been one where the main character is the traitor and betrays the rest of the cast?
Ethan Evans
Moses isn't a traitor, he's a reformed "villain". He kidnaps Shirley at the very start of the game before befriending any of the main cast and doesn't do anything bad to her or anything else evil.
Juan Evans
I see him more as the rebirth dude with a chunk of metal on his face
It's definitely one of the main reasons why I love Legendia so much. The fact that everyone has such a unique and raw look makes them all stand out. On top of the game naturally fleshing out each other their personalities while creating a family bond between the group.
I love Will. He may not be the best mage in the game, but he has a decent heal and strong magic. If he had some form of resurrection he would have been stellar. Moses is great it's just a shame that he practically misses anyone smaller than him which makes him not practical in fights unfortunately.
The fact that someone is dissing Will his disappointing. He's such a bro.
haven't played phantasia but zaveid is supposed to be the guy in zestiria i think
Landon Ramirez
in zestiria the game itself betrays you by making you think alisha will be the female lead
Brayden Edwards
>Fujos out there are making LudgerxArise MC fanart as we speak
How terrifying
Lucas Richardson
I miss the way mystic artes went off in tales of graces, they were quick compared to whatever they've been doing since xillia.
I swear, what exactly happens in this game? out of all the tales this one's plot is the least discuessed even the opening for it feels the least tales of as the powers they do show off are rather subdued and the mood seems very somber what with them showing Anne attacking the panther dude only to be stopped by the shota who just shakes his head like if she continues she'll have to fight him instead and then there's the blue guy's sword fight with that knight guy whose helmet he knocks off.
Asher Barnes
I wasn't talking about minor villains specifically, I meant a bandit character, specifically the leader of bandits too. Usually when you get a bandit character, it's someone who was only loosely affiliated with the bandits, like a mercenary.
Ryan Harris
Zaveid is just some random asshole who shows up here and there. He's also the best character. Which is feint praise but he's actually kind of cool. Also he gets the best music in the game
>nice big fields, a cool guy and a cute girl. I'll take it.
Lincoln Price
Moses' bandits never do anything bandit-like anyhow. They're called bandits, but they're more like a the "wholesome high school biker gang trope" in JP media. They even have the classic "charismatic boss scraped up all his misfit gang members and looks out for them" thing.
Sebastian Williams
Can we just have a collection for all mothership Tales and localized?
More ports of Tales games on switch when? Playing this shit in bed is ultra comfy and I'd love to replay a lot of the games
Jack Green
>playing tales after phantasia Cringe
Daniel Barnes
True, but my point was, how many other JRPGs bother having bandits that join your party and you get friendly with rather than just as enemies you fight? I personally didn't run into that many back in 2006 when I first played Legendia.
Nolan Fisher
>Shing and Kor
I meant Shing and Kohaku forgive me I'm drunk as shit right now
>But I always forget them when thinking about couples. Which is funny, since Hearts is literally in the name and romance was a big part of the game. It wasn't just Shing and Kohaku, there was also other romances going on in the game as well.
Cress = Special name Stan = Normal name Reid = Normal name Kyle = Normal name Lloyd = Normal name Veigue = Special name Senel = Normal name Luke = Normal name Ruca = Normal name Shing = Special name Yuri = Special name Asbel = Special name Jude = Normal name Milla = Normal name Ludger = Normal name Sorey = Special name Velvet = Normal name
It's gonna be a normal name
Colton Gray
I can't appreciate romance if I don't like both characters
Wyatt Evans
technically symphonia and abyss came out before phantasia unless you were a giant weeb in the 90s i guess (you probably weren't even born)
Nathaniel Johnson
Which is a shame, since Hearts R is up there as one of my all-time favorite Tales games along stuff like Symphonia and Legendia.
Christopher Gutierrez
What's Legendianon been up to these days, I wonder?
David Scott
And it's not like it was subtle or that kind of shy cuteness either. Shing was like "Shit I want to put my dick in that" almost all the time. Dude was pulling Hiro levels of thinking with the wrong head.
Right? Shing's upfront about his interest in her from the second he sees her for the first time, and that just keeps growing the whole game, with Kohaku showing clear interest as well. It was as blatant as it got.
He's here in the thread, just ask him.
Ryder Hughes
Believe, user. Believe.
Gabriel Morris
As much as I like Innez, her boobs and the jokes about then, I am actually glad the game gave her more to do as a character than be the team sexpot.
DOTNW Will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first tales game I played. So it being pretty bad pretty much everything went up from there. And while the game has a lot of faults, the characters were amazing there. Asshole Emil, Martha and Tenebrae were amazing.
Austin Moore
Not sure where I would rank it personally, but like I said before it's definitely my favourite out of the modern titles.
are what condoms...? the pins?
I always wonder. Strange guy.
eh, it happens. just be thankful we got it in the west at all.
Her character arc involving Lapis and struggling to become a mother-like figure for her was sweet and appreciated.
Oliver Lopez
Seriously. It was actually refreshing to not have to wait a whole game to see a romance play out. I mean it's not exactly smooth sailing either after Kohaku gets potato'd, but they didn't pull the UHAWAAA IT'S NOT LIKE THAT! There was just a lot of shit going on and they're both dorks.
>Nothing will ever top Julius humming the Hymn of Proof in his final moments I don't think any game will top Xillia 2 in terms of depression
Asher Sullivan
There is an option to make him voiced
Brody Reed
I think it's a bastardization of "Slay". Like, the chosen one who "slays" the darkness / dragon / etc.
Charles Torres
Not him but destiny and eternia were on PS1. Just saying.
Kevin Harris
Being berly is suffering >Genetic womanlet >Flat as a board >Have a bad case of dyslexia >Will never be as good of a painter as your grandpa >Run away from home hoping to find work and live on your own >Get swindled by the man you're supposed to teach painting >Get infected by Despir soon after >Saved by a handsome boy who immediately friendzones you forever >Said boy never fucking stops talking about some girl younger, taller and more stacked than you are, with the best legs ever seen on Organica and how much he wants to fuck her >What's worse, said girl's older brother bullies you to no end >Only comfort you can find is a 45 year old widower with questionable fashion taste who just treats you as his daughter >Until the other girl stops being retarded and you become best friends >Then another woman joins your ragtag group of misfits and she's taller, stronger and bustier than you'll ever be >Then ANOTHER woman joins and she's more charming, refined and cuter than you'll ever be and scores your friend's older brother instantly while you remain hopelessly single
That's a bit aggressive sounding for someone with the personality of a slice of bread.
Gabriel Gutierrez
Where?
Charles Nguyen
guess europe
Landon Kelly
that name sounds dumb
Jack Russell
Sorey has a great personality. He's the only really good member of Zestiria's main cast as far as I'm concerned. I thought he was a really refreshing protag.
Hunter Fisher
do you like asbel too?
Tyler Jenkins
I really can't tell if I like Berseria or not. I mean it is a very clear upgrade over Zesty but that's not saying a whole lot and it still suffers from a lot of the same problems, stupid equipment system, corridor world, that dreadful battle system etc.
The story and characters where all right and in some cases downright endearing as fuck, but It's all ruined by knowing how shit goes in Zesteria. I hate knowing Eizen gets fucked over hard and treated as a side quest and knowing what fate befalls Laphicet is downright dreadful.
Don't feel bad I didn't get them back then either so we both have to emulate or spend dumbfuck reseller prices
Chase Allen
>We have a Stan >We have a Kyle
When are we getting a Tales character with the name Cartman and Kenny?
Owen Perez
Honetly graphics look like MMORPG,I will wait for actual gameplay video(E3 maybe?).
Grayson Watson
No, Asbel sucked.
Hudson Fisher
>Sorey has a great personality. He has no personality. He's just a constantly upbeat generic twat of a protagonist. Every time he comes across anything that might be interesting or emotional he just replies with a blank "Don't worry" whenever his friends tell him that the avatar can't get emotional.
Adrian Long
i played eternia on psp thats about it for me for 2d games
Hunter Hughes
Boring mc all around.
Christian Campbell
What MMO looks that good? I wanna check it out whatever it is
Alexander James
I'm pretty sure there's a significant NPC named Kenny in one game but I can't put my finger on which one.
Michael Lewis
it sounds like it's a good thing I played berseria first and just dropped zesty after like an hour
Gavin Watson
Sorey is generic. It says a lot that his sexuality is the only notable thing about him. JRPGs in general tend to be set so that the male and female leads are the most boring members of the main cast. This is fortunately not the case for all Tales games, as we have Yuri, Ludger and Velvet, but it was definitely the case with Sorey.
Jaxson Reyes
I honestly don't think that Yuri was an interesting protagonist.
Joshua Wilson
Between Symphonia and Berseria. Can't beat a great cast.
Camden Reyes
He was different which was user's main point
Lincoln Edwards
He wasn't, but wish fulfillment is more important to the general audience than actual development, hence Yuri being infinitely more popular than Luke, who was very much not boring even after his haircut
Oliver Williams
Of course you wouldn't. But see here's the thing. Yuri was at least engaging and could actually form meaningful relationships and bounce off his cast. He was already fairly well developed prior to the start of the game but acts as a foil to force those around him to make meaningful strides, (Especially Estelle.)
The problem with Luke wasn't that he was boring, it was that he turned into an emo little whipping boy pussy. The game wants to burden so much guilt on him but from an outside perspective we can plainly see that very little is actually his fault. Now he doesn't get the advantage of an outside perspective but the problem is that no one ever actually grows past shoveling everything on him. So he spends the whole game taking the blame for everything that goes wrong when his only crime was trusting his beloved teacher over some random assholes who treated him like shit. It's retarded.
Yuri was just overall pretty entertaining to watch. He's an almost complete character, but that doesn't mean his interactions are boring.
Luke had an interesting character arc, but it failed at certain key points. For example he accepts his own weaknesses and wants to work on them, but still just ignores Lorelei's voice after the time skip. He also can't see his own worth for way too long, almost up to the end of the game.
Connor Thomas
Let me rephrase that then. I wasn't implying that those I mentioned were more 'interesting' so much as they were less generic. Yes, Yuri has a strong sense of justice, which is typical of MCs, but he was also more mature and decidedly not naive. He could actually provide insight or advice into things beyond the "his idealism is infectious to this cynical world" shit. And hell he even flirts with Judith (the hot one of the group) a bit. If he were a more standard protagonist he'd have eyes only for Estelle.
That's what I mean. Most JRPG protags follow certain predictable patterns or cliches, so having someone that is ready to straight-up assassinate an obvious villain is refreshing sometimes.
Ayden Perez
Guys I'm getting a little bit excited for Arise. It feels like a mistake as I expect more disappointment even with Baba gone, but the game is looking good. Even if those pics aren't from actual gameplay, they had enough time to make everything from scratch.
I just don't wanna be disappointed again.
Joshua James
>He also can't see his own worth for way too long, almost up to the end of the game. To be fair that might be difficult when your party is constantly telling you how shitty you are.
Jonathan Cook
Yeah most heroes tend to be more Lloyd like. Which in fairness I like Lloyd, but he's whole back is really standard. He's relentlessly optimistic for no reason beyond being the hero and everyone treated him like he was super special amazing just for that alone. He's not without moments of genuine wit and resourcefulness but outside of being the hero he's not really doing anything special that others aren't already. It's the whole "HE JUST BELIEVES THE MOST" thing.
I think it was especially bad in the anime where Kratos says this shit to Mythos about why Lloyd is better. And keep in mind, Mythos has been at this shit for THOUSANDS of year and Lloyd maybe a few months to a year. The amount of calendar time is never really clear in this games.
Guy was totally faithful to him after the initial shock, Natalia had her own problems to deal with, Anise is unlikable, Jade doesn't understand empathy and even then warmed up to him a lot, and Tear is Tear
No matter how obviously it wasn't his fault, when you've just indirectly caused one of the worst atrocities in written history and all of your friends abandon you, even temporarily, of course that's going to fuck you up long term; he had barely any frame of reference beforehand as to how a reasonable person should act, so his solution was to just more or less do the opposite of how he acted previously, which lead to the constant putting himself down and groveling
See, here's the thing. I don't disagree with you. He should have some guilt or something to grow over. But he never does. He just hots sad sack status and everyone just coasts with that for the rest of the game. He hits his middle but never his end and no one else ever actually realizes that it's not his fault. Nobody else takes meaningful responsibility. Yes Luke should feel guilt but the game insists that he actually wrong.
Man from the thumbnail I mistook Yggdrasil for a naked Colette
Elijah Wright
yeah, what's up?
Dominic Cook
Honestly, it's been so long since I played Zestiria that I can't pull many specific references off the top of my head, but I distinctly remember feeling "refreshed" by Sorey. The fact that he was a kind person and completely sheltered and yet not painfully naive like most JRPG protagonists would be in his place was a big one, showcased in the scene where he's at that table with a bunch of nobles who are trying to use him, but he quickly and calmly recongizes that and basically tells them to fuck off. I enjoyed Sorey's particular mixture of optimism and intelligence and I felt that he didn't fall into a lot of cliche traps that I expected. He never got overly angsty about his shortcomings and never got obnoxious about his love of history.
Dominic Davis
hits not hots. Fuck I am way to drunk right now,.
Nathan Miller
Do you just not play many JRPGs? Because it sounds like you don't.
I could say the same thing about anyone who thinks Yuri is unique, honestly. Maybe we didn't play the same ones. I consider myself a fan of JRPGs in general and I think I've played quite a lot, though some series don't click with me.
Joshua Phillips
Not sure why Yea Forums flipped the image, though.
Daniel Jones
In the few hours of Zestiria I experienced almost the entire party felt like different flavours of Lloyd. That kind of character works as the MC to give the player explanations, but in Zestiria it was just infuriating how each and every one of them didn't know shit about the world.
Gavin Hall
They announced that this year's chapter of Asteria is the last. It'll last for one year. No surprise since Van is dead and no other villain can take his place so they're trying to kill it slowly.
Isaiah Robinson
I mean, by the time he's about to grow out of it, he gets hit with MORE serious shit and at that point it's not about Akzeriuth anymore, it's about Luke having terminal foncer, there's several moments where Luke actually gets to act like a leader and the party gives him credit for it; his damaged sense of self-worth is partially due to Asch basically gaslighting him because Asch has his own crazy potpourri of mental problems he's dealing with, he's giving Luke mixed signals constantly
Joseph Garcia
that's beautiful user. love the little heart and you know I love when people appreciate the game. you're more than all right in my books.
It kinda feels like Luke is just the world's punching bag. I don't know why but it felt like the game lacked self-awareness in how it handled many of it's characters. Tear is a borderline mary sue, Jade is a self-proclaimed asshole but is otherwise just laughed off more and Anise is an obnoxious brat. Guy gets a bit more self-awareness and I really don't remember enough about Natalia to comment on her.
It's like the game wants to be this grand story of a deeply flawed boy slowly coming to terms with himself, but forgot that there are other characters that can develop along with him.
Hunter Fisher
Okay? Again that's all the more example of the flaws in the writing. Nothing gets the chance to settle so Luke never gets the chance to actually grow and again, the big issue is still the games perception of the events. They still dodge the fact that everyone is basically just using Luke as a whipping boy. They yell at him to think for himself but only if it aligns with what they say.
Julian Brown
You know, it's not even the Luke shit that pisses me off the most. It's how they handle Arietta. Her whole life is based on a lie and instead of trying to tell her the truth so she can move on and grow they just decide to accept her challenge to a death match and kill her because "It was her first solo decision" and it was based on ignorance. Ignorance they could have shed light on. It would be one thing if they told her and she refused to believe you and then picked a fight when you where trying to do something plot related, but that's not what happens. They hide the truth from her and then kill her, in a location that was well out of the way of anything important.
Huh. That actually does line up with how they treat Luke. Holy shit this game.
I like female protagonists better because then the writers get to decide between writing a generic heroine, but in a main character role which puts that personality type in situations they normally don't find themselves in, or making a "man with tits" personality which is still refreshing to see. Male MCs in JRPGs are just generic battle shonen protagonists 99% of the time.
Mason Sullivan
Goodbye, Velvet. Goodbye, Sorey. Goodbye, Eleanor. Goodbye, Rokurou. Goodbye, Rose. Goodbye, Mikleo. Goodbye, Lailah. Goodbye, Magilou. Goodbye, Maotelus. Goodbye, Bersy. Goodbye, Zesty. Hello, new world. Hello, new characters. The hype is real.
They did know about the world, that's why Sorey avoided politics like a plague, the only person who didn't was actually Alisha.
Ryan Phillips
>This is a 16 years old
Ayden Taylor
There wasn't any official announcement yet. Although it very likely will. Everyone is assuming its ending because it does far worse than Rays and Crestoria is coming soon.
Jonathan Evans
Back when I got a lanyard instead of a Legendia artbook, I was pretty disappointed, but in hindsight I'm glad I got that. It's more unique than the artbook would have been, as nice as that'd have been to have. I can look up the art online, but having the lanyard feels a little more special.
Am I the only other person besides you to post Legendia merchandise in one of these threads? I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do it in all these years.
Elijah Howard
The rest of the party in Zestiria kinda sucks, to say the least. I felt that Zestiria had terribly shallow party dynamic and it was really lacking in character development. Zestiria's writing was a mess all around, but by the end I had enjoyed Sorey as the protagonist. He just happened to appeal to my taste. I get it if people don't like him, but I think it's incorrect to say he's more generic than the average Tales protag or that he lacks a personality entirely.
Brandon Moore
>Goodbye, Magilou. But Magilou will appear as a cameo battle!
Joshua Bennett
I like it when there's gameplay mechanics to increase amity between party members. In Innocence, you could do it by party members using items on eachother in combat. Then they have skits purely about the state of their relationship
Jason Miller
Steam?
Zachary Garcia
Different user here. I've been mistaken for Legendianon multiple times, though just from talking about Legendia and not from posting the merch I own. I'm too lazy to take a picture. I own several artbooks, guidebooks, the soundtracks, a few rubber and metal straps, the Senel+Chloe poster already posted in this thread, and a few other goods. Legendia is my favorite Tales.
Thomas Clark
Except there are enough female protags to say we have a good measure of what would be 'generic'. 80% of the time she's a nice compassion girl that is at least somewhat cheerful and naive.
Dominic Reyes
Zesteria's writing very much revolved around the LOL WACKY! school of "character writing" that I generally detest so much. I swear it seemed like the characters were always just making stupid puns and by so many times, I think I actually really grew to dislike most of them.
And nobody really acts with a sense of logic that's satisfying. Like, I get there's reasons that Lailah can't blab about all those important plot details but the reason they give is really just dumb and I think I'd rather just they went with the cliche amnesia or something.
Josiah Johnson
>80% of the time she's a nice compassion girl that is at least somewhat cheerful and naive.
Well that's sort of the same thing as most male ones innit?
Blake Gonzalez
I've only played Vesperia, but i really enjoyed it and wanted more. I played it on the Switch, so fuck me i guess ;_;
Landon Ward
>Showing it at E3
I hope it's more than a 10 second trailer, but these screenshots make it seem like that's all we'll get.
Justin Evans
Huh? We only have two female protags and neither Milla or Velvet are like what you're describing
Hudson Edwards
Ah, cool, good to know then! It's always nice to see other Legendia fans.
>80% of the time she's a nice compassion girl that is at least somewhat cheerful and naive. Name 5 games, no Atelier
Dominic Lewis
Because having the information in advance might make it so they don't fail. Duh.
Nathaniel Turner
Stella? She's not anything like Mithos other than blonde.
Cooper Baker
Hope they go back to Xillia combat. Loved that shit in 2. Speaking of Xillia, why is it not on steam yet? For fucks sake.
Robert Turner
I think that the party dynamic for Zestiria was okay outside of Rose and Alisha.
Nathan Edwards
They recently made a new twitter page for the main purpose of promoting Asteria, it's not dying any time soon.
Zachary Sanchez
This, can they speed up their ports please? Lets get the rest on PC and whatnot already.
Austin Jenkins
But they didn't, she warns you away from making mistakes. And the shit that other shepherds did is irrelevant because they're all failures anyway. And Sorey wanted to learn about them too copy them.
Lucas Smith
>And Sorey wanted to learn about them too copy them.
Learning about HOW they failed is how you prevent yourself from making the same mistakes. Not ignoring them entirely.
>THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT.
Sound familiar?
Angel Robinson
Does Sorey feel sorry?
Blake Richardson
>Goodbye, Bersy. >Goodbye, Zesty. Good. Those two games have received proper closure already so there's no need for continuation.
Nicholas Sullivan
It's not about preventing Sorey from making whatever mistakes the previous Shepherds may have made. Lailah kept Sorey in the dark because he had to come to his own conclusions and not simply bear the Shepherd's burden out of duty towards his predecessors. She wanted him to go on his own personal journey, free from the chains of the past, to see the world through his own eyes, not through the eyes of previous Shepherds.
Nathaniel Howard
Again she warns Sorey against making the same mistakes, and it's not like she traveled with all of them so she wouldn't know as much as you think. Sorey finds out about the ones who fucked up anyway.
I think that most of them just didn't achieve anything anyway. The only person who really knows everything and does tell him is Maotelus.
Jack Brooks
I hope they'd make the main male character more like Gintoki from Gintama in terms of personality. Which means having a dark and troubled past but still maintaining a colorful personality.
Samuel Sanchez
It's impossible to discuss the story/lore of Zestiria properly due to how much content was cut or missing, anything that seems wrong or out of place is easily explained by looking at how little the game does in regards to every plot point, most ideas and concepts are dropped after their initial reveal.
Logan Harris
yeah, okay no that's stupid. There's something to be said about standing on your own two feet but there's too much danger and too much at stake for this shit to fly. Also mankind's entire history is built on the achievements of others and it doesn't undermine your own choices to learn from our fore bearers.
Getting advice from people doesn't rob you of your own decision making. As much as it's easy to fall into the same ruts they did they can also inspire you to succeed where they failed. Just because they failed doesn't mean he will and just because something doesn't work once doesn't mean it can never work.
You're doing more harm by not being upfront. You can't just write it off as LOL THEY WERE LOSERS when even a lose can be a good teacher.
Jacob Bennett
It's pretty much this, Lailah wanted Sorey to think for himself, form his own conclusions, and be selfish.
Ayden Parker
But the storyline already has a proper conclusion, right?
Lincoln Evans
>Those two games have received proper closure already No.
Andrew Hernandez
Once again. That's stupid.
>Hey guys should we go through rattle snake forest? >What's a rattle snake >That's a surprise, You need to learn on your own.
Austin Reed
Serah (FFXIII-2) Yuna (FFX-2) Shion (Xenosaga) Rem (type 0) Uhh....
Carson Brooks
Why not? Velvet is sealed away for eternity and living a beautiful eternal dream with her brother. Sorey has awakened and met Mikleo again at the very end of Zestiria, implying that he has successfully purified Maotelus.
Christopher Hernandez
>LegendiaAnon You're the reason I come to Tales threads
>Anime game where the MC is an actual grown man I'm interested.
Ayden Rogers
A dream can become pretty boring once you have it over and over again. What about the heavenly realm?
Andrew Carter
Post Vesperia Tales was a mistake.
Elijah Ramirez
Sorey had to learn for himself because only then could he understand what works for him and what doesn't. Just because something works for one person doesn't mean that it works for another and vice versa.
Hunter Morales
Legendianon is a treasure. Rare is it to see such rabid devotion to a single game in someone who is not an asshole. I salute you, Legendianon.
Parker Nguyen
Except she never does that. If it's things concerning the world itself she'll tell him.
Liam Baker
>Just because something works for one person doesn't mean that it works for another and vice versa.
WHICH IS ALL THE REASON TO SHARE THE LESSONS OF HIS PREDECESSORS!! He gets the aggregate knowledge of all those before him. He can see where they failed and triumphed, take the best lessons and harshest morals and take them all to heart so he can actually make INFORMED decisions.
BECAUSE THAT'S HOW LEARNING WORKS! You want him to decide between right and wrong without learning what either actually are.
Not in this case because Sorey wanted to copy them, and actually tried to. Lailah even tells Sorey to his face that the fact that Sorey would copy them is why she doesn't say anything.
Kayden Howard
Are Yuri and Ludger the only adult MCs?
Xavier Gutierrez
Neither Serah nor Rem are main characters and Shion is spend 90% of the series angry or depressed, hardly cheerful.
Grayson Ramirez
Okay? So he get s character arc about not being a copy cat. That doesn't mean he can't still learn from them. Hell learning the difference between inspiration and plagiarism might actually give him some depth. But I guess we can't have that.
Christopher Brooks
Serah is a MC of FFXIII-2
John Rivera
You do also realize that Sorey already knows about most of them because of the Celestial Record, which he worshipped.
Blake Anderson
Milla is also an adult
James King
Serah is the MC of the second game.
Also gonna add Estelle from Trails and Kat from Gravity Rush.
Leo Moore
I'll concede Shion doesn't really fit the bill, if Rem isn't MC of T0 then who is? Mr. AWOL-for-half-the-game Machina? And Serah isn't the MC of XIII-2? got any more hot takes about games you haven't played?
Dominic Stewart
TALES IS BACK
SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT NOT LUDGER
Luke Baker
Toki (time and eternity)
Andrew Nguyen
I'm guessing that part of it lies with Lailah's experience. She's been around for who knows how long. She's likely seen a myriad of Shepherds doing exactly what you want, simply taking their predecessors' knowledge and only running off of that. The world changes, and yet the line of Shepherds would remain stagnant. And it's not like the newer Shepherds could change it, because the older ones would be infuriated that these upstart newcomers were trying to upset centuries-old traditions. After seeing all that, Lailah'd want Sorey to start anew on a clean slate and earn his own wisdom. At least, that's my take.
Brayden Garcia
Hey anons, where do I start with Tales? I'm interested, but have never played any of them before. I have sometimes checked these threads out and LegendiaAnon made me want to pull the trigger on a Tales game, unfortunately I can't play Legendia since I'm an EUfag and my PC can't emulate, but either way I want to get into the Tales games now.
Jonathan Cook
Just pick whichever one you think looks the best or has the cutest waifu. They're all largely disconnected and you'll get wildly difference answers based on who you ask.
If you want to go official, Vesperia just got a shiny new port of the PS3 version and people generally hold it in high regard.
Liam Allen
I hope it has some decent waifu and not some insufferable loli. That pigtailed little princess on one of the pics is already a bad signal
I hope we get some mature love story for once. But who the fuck am I kidding, this is an anime game.
Cooper Reyes
Stahn is 19 Reid is 18 Veigue is 18 Velvet is 19
Isaac Smith
I hope we get a spear girl
Parker Peterson
>Leaked before E3 and Tales of Festival 2019
What did they mean by this?
Nicholas Lopez
I don't count anyone who can't buy beer. If your age still ends in teen you're basically a kid.
Angel Bell
They both have torn clothes This better be due to plot reasons and not just the designer's retarded fetish
Anthony Gonzalez
Not him but what do you mean by the heavenly realm?
Jaxon Williams
I forgot Americans can go die in war or be in porn before they can buy beer
Ian Flores
I would like a love story between two mature characters who each have their own development and problems to deal with, where the romance has the two actively flirting and interacting beyond blushing at each other. But we know that won't happen.
William Clark
Ah, much better. That hair color tho
Josiah Sullivan
Has that ever even happened OUTSIDE a JRPG? Just two people who instantly hit it off, flirt hard and then bang?
Juan Morris
PUNISHED LUDGER IS YOUR MAIN CHARACTER
Zachary Morgan
NO I refuse people to call the new MC Ludger
Xavier Ward
>Just two people who instantly hit it off, flirt hard and then bang? Literally what Chads and Staceys do every friday nights
Andrew Perez
I'm calling not-Lailah is the quiet, bland, but cheerful main girl with some super important hidden powers that needs to be protected and gets kidnapped for a long period of time, next is the short-haired bratty princess from the other world that gets humbled by some shocking revelation, and finally the long-hair ara-ara temptress that has very little development and is mostly there for fetish reasons
I would like a main character and main heroine who have already been dating for 2 years before the start of the game and there is no romance or seduction and simply act as a couple throughout the game with simple gestures of affection like having his arm wrapped around her hips during a cutscene or calling each other nicknames like honey or sweetheart.
Holy fuck yes. I am so tired of seeing romance as the end result rather than as an actual relationship. Give me a couple of married characters to join the party. I think the closest we ever got was Mary who, while Awesome, fucked off after you found out she was married (I just got that) and that's assuming her beau isn't fucking dead.
Problem with this is that for whatever reason actual displays of affection between love interests in games seems almost taboo aside from hand holding and a kiss on the cheek. That's why what you propose ultimately wouldn't work out well.
Take FFIV for example. Cecil and Rosa are already a couple. And yet the two are essentially the same as the standard childhood friend love interests. Granted there were graphical limitations at the time but still.
Justin Sanders
There are no reasons for it aside from developers being unwilling to do it.
Luke Hernandez
Good, so the game won't be held back by garbage hardware.
