He's my absolute favorite and have used him in probably six or so runs now.
I ran it with sash and rock polish way back in gen 5-6 and got some nice surprise kills, but it probably wouldn't do so great in today's meta unless you go up against a guy with non-scarf tapu koko. You can't OHKO lando with ice punch after intimidate with jolly, and it's a range with adamant but you can't outspeed scarf garchomp post-polish (not that that even matters anymore).
You could probably get some shit done with assault vest, though.

There’s nothing to critique. What kind of arbitrary standards are you applying in your logic regarding what is a “Pokémon”? Don’t bother replying with them actually because no matter what dumb answer you give, a Pokémon is a Pokémon according to the very designers who made them, this isn’t even a debate. It’s a fact that you’re in denial of.

Roughly, they have to have multiple inspirations from biological life, mythical creatures and tales, and cultural matters.
They also should have as large an amount of detail in the literal design / artstyle of the Pokemon as possible.
They less they have of these, the simpler they are, and the more they have of these, the better a design they are.
Also, people generally don't like uglymons.

In the simplest terms.

There was only one good bug move before Gen 4 and it was Megahorn. If you wanted a Scyther or Scizor with Bug coverage before Gen 4 you had you use shitty ass Silver Wind. If you wanted a Pinsir with a Bug move then you had to fuck yourself. The next strongest bug move after that was Signal Beam, which was rare and only given to Pokemon who would never bother with it like Dewgong, for example.

Gen 4 introduced TMs for U-turn and X-Scissor and that's when people started paying attention to them. Before that the only Bug-type pokemon you could use for ANYTHING was Heracross. Every single other one was shit in its own unique way. Even Scizor couldn't field a full moveset. You had Silver Wind, Hidden Power, Brick Break and Steel Wing so you were better off using a Baton pass set, so you were better off just using Ninjask.

Every now and then I'll use a Staraptor in OU and people always think they can switch into a brave bird. Pairs well with Magnazone to kill whatever Brave bird isnt hitting hard. Even 2HKO a Landorous T after an Intemindate

Yes, Aerial Ace also sucked. People used it on Swellow because they literally had no choice, just like they used Silver Wind on Scizor only because they had no choice. The moves are still awful.

You're never gonna keep a Scizor in on an Alakazam in Gen 3 or whatever, hoping to pin them with your Silver Wind because Alakazam can just fuck your shit up with Fire Punch. You're doing a set of thought exercises but you can't even finish one rep.

Claydol's design borrows heavily from Dogu figurines, you making the argument that Golurk borrows too much from preestablished real life design norms is stupid in of itself because plenty of Pokemon already do that. If Golurk is made to look like "some guardian" by stereotype, then why aren't the Regis? What is a "guardian" or "golem" to you? While Golurk is heavily inspired by Hebrew mythology, it doesn't strictly adhere to its depictions and instead adds onto it like how it also takes inspiration from mecha culture with how it retracts its limbs to form rockets, much like how Claydol takes some creative liberties with its inspiration too. Golurk is simply borrowing from a preestablished design archetype much like the regis and literally every other Pokemon in existence.

Focus Blast is bad. It has an average 77 base damage per use. It is completely outclassed by Aura Sphere, which has an average 90 base damage per use. No one would ever use Focus Blast if they had access to Aura Sphere.

Disingenous at best. Focus Blast will OHKO what Aura Sphere will 2HKO because of its higher base power. Killing a Ferrothorn outright vs risking letting to live to T-Wave your shit or whatever can be the deciding factor in a battle.

And Thunder and Blizzard do more damage than Thunderbolt and Ice Beam, but literally NO ONE would ever use those moves outside of weather teams. Just like no one would ever run Focus Blast on a Togekiss.

It depends. Mewtwo learns both and it uses Focus Blast in Ubers. Special mega Luke also has to use it in Ubers because Blissey and Chansey don't care about Aura Sphere.

It's probably closer to the Flamethrower vs Fire Blast debate. Granted Fire Blast is more accurate but the Steel coverage is more important than the coverage offered by Ice and Electric nowadays. If Bulky waters were still a thing it might matter if you used Thunder or T-Bolt. Ice has historically been most important for hitting Dragons, which are nerfed, can be hit with Fairy moves, and many of which are 4x weak to Ice anyway (see also pokemon like Gliscor).

I agree, but in-game it's done way less justice than the intent. In the anime, the final form apparently fights in a bipedal stance and uses the things on its arms/front legs as sheathes for water/shell blades. That on top of the helmet+katana thing they went for says they had the right idea but went just a little too off.

If I can point to a pokemon that looks like Golurk, then that means Golurk looks like a pokemon. And I can. It's called Golurk. All it takes for a pokemon to "look like a pokemon" is for it to be a pokemon, and the definition expands.
