When you drop it and play Xenoblade.

>Xenoblade

Maybe if you're talking about 1 or X.

>have to play the game next to a guide or else you can miss up to 80% of the game
I'm on part 2 and I'm burned out because everything is time-sensitive and missable. Why can't bandai-namco design games well?

>it's another "Yea Forums TOLD ME THIS WAS THE BEST GAME EVER AND IT'S NOT THE BEST GAME EVER SO IT'S SHIT" episode
What's sad is this is probably the only way to get a Tales thread to bump limit now

Played Xenoblade 2 and it's worse than this. That games was genuinely bad, this is just dull.

Yuri Lowell is the only reason to play this game. He ties with Kanji Tatsumi as Troy Baker's best performance.

I was referring to 1, and X.

>>it's another "Yea Forums TOLD ME THIS WAS THE BEST GAME EVER AND IT'S NOT THE BEST GAME EVER SO IT'S SHIT" episode
When did I ever state or imply this? I've heard good things about this game outside of Yea Forums as well and I would've probably picked it up without Yea Forums

Don't even pretend those games aren't an absolute slog. Xenoblade 2 takes at least 20 hours to get good.

Hard to say. I got bored and dropped it after the second Zagi fight

>When does it get good?
user, I...

Played X and dropped it when I found out you have to run around the city and find your party members every time you want to switch them around. Wasn't nearly as bad as 2 but it feels like Monolith can't make a game that doesn't involve some way to waste people's time.

When you toss it aside, and play either Dark Souls, or Devil May Cry.

never, you were meme'd
should have gotten legendia

just another 30 hours to go before you might get some skills to make the combat not shit hang in there btw check out these combo vids

I've played both
I think I'm done with the Tales series after this
I've started to realise that JRPG's with action battle systems often aren't very good...

I play jrpgs for the campy stories and sometimes decent soundtracks
people acting like vesperia is a fighting game are a bunch of fags

when you realize patty is a nopan

It's a Tales game, so never.

This. Playing Vesperia right now, halfway through it, but I just can't go back to Tales. I used to enjoy them, but XC games spoiled me. Tales is always the same on rails shit, the same zero exploration, the same overdone bland environments, the same subpar music, the same everything. The characters bant is always enjoyable though, I'll give it that.

>I've started to realise that JRPG's with action battle systems often aren't very good...
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are the only ones I can think of.

Kek, no.

Kingdom Hearts is as much a jrpg as Metal Gear Rising. It's an action game, that's it.

Too bad Xenoblade goes to shit halfway through.

When you met Rita the rest is awesome.

It doesnt, at least not if you're hoping for a decent story

Yeah, I guess you'd be right there. That being said I only played the first KH, but I found it entertaining enough to stick with

You either play it cos you're hot for Yuri or you're gonna have a bad time.

Attached: sr3030081000_01.png (960x800, 94K)

It's definitely the best one in the series. Chain of Memories and 2 are still good, but the rest are crap, so you probably just got the best experience.

Yeah, I hear that question and I'm think "Kingdom Hearts II... maybe the Kingdom Hearts if you're generous?" Good action combat is generally more finesse than the sub-genre seems to get time and talent for. Tales combat is fun at it's best, but like everything else in the series it is brought down by being stretched out over a game that 40+ hours for no reason.

When you unlock Judith, Raven and Flynn.

Which is when 75% of the game is over.

Damn. I'm gonna come back to it in a couple of weeks and see if it can win me over after a bit more time but if not I'll drop it.

I finished the game recently. It really doesn't improve much, if at all.

most people agree that it gets real good at the heracles

I was able to enjoy it and get deep into it when I was couch co-oping with my pals. I can only hope you'll find some reason to keep pushing on.

Attached: 1559666488690.png (1440x1078, 2.2M)

Coop is pretty much mandatory to enjoy the game before it gets good after 50 hours.
God the AI is terrible

Is Raven actually considered good in combat?
He seems fairly ineffectual. Currently only at the part right before Don's death, though.
inb4 he gets better another 30 hours in.

>tfw no online co-op
>tfw no Yea Forums tales threads where anons can join in on other's journeys and shit up each other's battles

A man can dream, right?
A man can dream...
Unfortunately, the meme is accurate here.

Raven unlocks Time Stop and has lots of late-game abilities that really make his playstyle fun, which is why I said when the game's about 75% over.

Attached: 1559190308226.png (546x498, 536K)

It never gets good. Hell I'd argue it gets worse, the story jumps off a fucking cliff in the 3rd act.

Honestly by the first time you get combo plus that combat is much better.
The story is good enough, the combat is great and the skills and spells you learn are interesting.
I really don't understand how people get bored with a game so quickly.

I'm surprised no one tried to mod the Tales of games to add local coop like Super Mario 64

With strong internet you can use parsec to play online coop

>which is why I said when the game's about 75% over
Aye. Thought that was mostly in reference to Flynn, but oh well. Guess I'll keep him around anyway since I completely neglected him on my first playthrough (even got the "oh boy, I wish I could participate in combat more" skit).

>so quickly
Eight hours isn't a brief dip into a game user

Yea but I meant like 200 players running on the map everywhere and you can join in their battles by walking on them

Keep to him and soon you'll be weaving in and out of bow and knife combos like nothing. His traps are really good combo extenders and starters if you can space yourself right.

Play an actually good game like Dragon Quest 11

By 8 hours you'd be around the desert area, right? The worldbuilding during that part is great and Rita would be getting into her second tier of magic.
Unless you somehow ended up going way slower than that, new skills and a shit ton of fun character interaction would be around then.
I really can't see how you would get bored unless you only play Yuri and dislike him.

I'm at the point where you're escorting Estelle back to the capital

>play zestiria, berseria and vesperia
>all the same shit
is there a good tales of? I mean, surely there was at least ONE good game decades ago to make the company shit out 100 sequels.

>play zestiria, berseria and vesperia
wew

Symphonia's my favorite. Of course you'll have people talking about Abyss, Vesperia and Graces F.

Graces F has the best combat system, though.

>Yuri giving Phaeroh shit for taking matters into his own hands

Attached: 1380474051885.png (819x745, 251K)

Second playthrough or when you get glory on yuri.

>glory
Doesn't that make everything a massive faceroll?

Symphonia is apparently the least bad of the lot. I always thought it was mediocre and derivative at best, but I was able to appreciate it slightly more after playing the complete abomination that was Tales of the Abyss

It makes the game fun. You don't need it if you play on normal or easy though.

Found some people hosting PC New Game+ saves and how to install them, so I will try them whenever I give Vesperia a go.

>get told Symphonia has a memorable story
>It's filled to the brim with generic cliches
Is Symphonia one of those "games I've played in my childhood and I though it was good" games?

when you able to link Arcane and Altered arts together so, around 40-50 hours into the game.

yes.

Hoo yeah. Not devoid of fun but certainly a "if we're super long and TALK about a lot of things we must have something to SAY about a lot of things!"

OP if you want a JRPG with good action combat, you should try the Ys series. For me personally, I find the Tales of combat really restrictive since there's no proper dodge/evasion abilities or even a jump function. It seems to just be able stringing Art combos which I find repetitive and boring.

You made me realize anew that the newest Tales game don't have a jump, because most of them do and it's often useful.

I got to the part where they head to the desert and lost my save. Wasn’t good enough to make me want to play up to that point again.

That's not a fair comparison. Ys have almost 0 RPG elements so the gameplay can be very challenging. Meanwhile in Tales of you can just drop the controller since your party members will kill everything and heal you.

Later when you get more gameplay tools. It’s the best Tales in terms of combat but you have to put up with the awful story.

>Meanwhile in Tales of you can just drop the controller since your party members will kill everything and heal you.
I'd like you to show me a video of you doing exactly that against Gattuso

Tales better get their shit together and drop their old ass shitty engine and make something great for the next game or i am dropping their shit faster than FFXV.

>comics about Lloyd telling later tales protagonists how to be heros

pls more

How is that in any way a good thing. If that's the case, I'd rather play a turn based RPG.

I don't recall the artist doing any more, but I would have to remember who they are.

>Story
Starts bad, becomes decent around 25 hours in, jumps off a cliff into retardation around 50 hours in
>Gameplay
Starts inexcusably terrible, improves to tolerable after 30 hours, improves again to acceptable after 70 hours

If you don't REALLY REALLY like the characters and the party banter scenes then there's really not much of a reason to play this game at all. At its best, it's still only okay, and you will have to slog through dozens of hours of complete dreck just to get there.

Wonder how it will look in action. To E3.

Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia. They're all at least 20 years old though
