The Dreamcast was my first console
The game I got for it was Sonic Shuffle
I think you now realize why I'm the opposite of a Sega fan
>anything after 1848
>soul
Why 1848?
Shuffle was ok
Just the boards and battles sucked
I miss when consoles had interesting UIs like this, it's all so boring now
>he doesn't know
>retro=soul
cringe
It looks like a child designed it but it’s still got soul.
pic related, more soul
Sonic Shuffle was my childhood game, fuck you. I still play it now and then, along with Rush 2000 and one of the Game Missed
Mixes.
I like the cheap CGI they used. I wish they'd use shit like that now, just for the looks of it. It doesn't have to be overlydesigned fucking piece of modern design, just slap a few cubes and swoosh sounds it's great.
>atmospheric, futuristic, slightly ominous console UIs are now a thing of the past
The WiiU may not have done a lot right, but I’ll give it credit for being the last console with an interesting UI.
>Post objective NOSTALGIA
Fixed that for you OP
Faggot.
I think part of what makes modern design so soulless is the fact that it's all so flat and sterile, just adding some texture to a ui would instantly give it much more soul.
never saw this angle before

>hmmm okay guys what kind of game should we make?
>lmao lets just copy F-Zero haha
based
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
It's all text based aswell now. Not so many icons and bouncing controllers anymore, just a cold "settings", or there's a picture but it's some shitty minimalistic bullshit "square inside a square A SCREEN!"
Some of the mini games were hilarious.
This. I remember using this as a music player and then watch the spaceship going on and on
So much soul it had to be removed from the soulless remake
Nah, it’s more than just design. Sound is a huge part of it too, every console has specific sounds and music that you would associate with their UIs. PlayStation 2 had the synth alongside the wind sounds, GameCube had the super iconic jingle and musical menu sounds, and Xbox had the sci fi spaceship computer sounds with creepier sound effects that could play if you left the console running for a while. The new UIs either have no music or really generic sounding menu music with basic sound effects.
>tfw they added that flat shit to the 360 dashboard's UI and made it look like absolute trash
Wish I could get Blades back
The worst part is that flat UI design can be done incredibly well without looking hollow. Just look at literally anything inspired by/done by The Designers Republic.

>tfw Apple's EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE MINIMALISTIC TO SELL THE MOST TO THE MAJORITY marketing shit has all but infested 95% of everything and killed most soul and identity most things had
Looks like some under-5 baby toy that's also made out of play doh, sounds fitting for someone who would start a "soul" thread.
The fact that the switch has a completely silent UI still makes me sad considering even the DSI and 3D had an atmospheric menu with music and a startup jingle.

I used to get this screen pop up randomly in the middle of games, so I ended up having to leave a game case on top of the CD lid when playing.
