It was pretty much just the crappy confidant bonuses for me, but she also just didn't seem that interesting. Her personality and dialogue wasn't enough to rope me into whatever "story" she had. I made it to rank 4 and it failed to grip me by then so I checked out.

Also she's ugly.

Her confidant bonus sucks which immediately sidelines her. I like her storyline and think she's pretty hot but yeah that's kinda it

Ohya just has plain design. Which is deliberate, she's supposed to look like that, but that doesn't make her any less boring.

I thought her story was fairly average within the game. I think most people dislike her for being an alcoholic, but looking past that, her story isn't that bad. The thing with Kayo also connects her to the overall plot which is kind of nice. I thought her story was better than several party member's, including Ann, Ryuji, and Makoto. While it is nice to develop friendships, the actual modeling, trackteam, and ditzy friend storylines are pretty basic. As far as teammate stories go, I only liked Futaba's. Yusuke and Haru were alright, but still weaker than most nonteammate stories.

If you don't include party members, then she does drop quite a bit. I think hierophant, death, sun, star, fortune, and hanged man have better stories, but she is better than tower at least.

The only reason you'd max this out is if you cared for story reasons, since you see she's working to exonerate your original "crime" in the montage scene.

Her being a journalist is cool, it's a nice quality and makes her more interesting than other characters.
But alcoholism is a major turn off. Had alcoholic parents growing up and it sucked. If you spend your time drinking alone in the red light district you probably have some mental issues.

Every non-teammate confidant was better in terms of story desu. I still liked all of them though.

An alcoholic journalist, that is willing to sacrifice anyones reputation for a story. Has an obsession with her former journalist mentor. Is too old to date a high school boy. Is too wasted to even go on any real dates. While her bonus is counteractive for treasure demon hunting.

I don't mean people dislike her for drinking, most of us do, myself included. But the alcoholic/drunk character archetype is not very sympathetic to most people. If you are old enough to be in or through college, you probably know a guy that drinks/drank too hard. At first you might feel bad for him, but after a while it becomes a "come on man, get a hold of yourself." It seems this sort of situation is played out throughout fiction pretty often, too. Maybe I am seeing it with my own biases though

The competition is too tough. If you go out of your way to avoid romancing the teenagers, you still have a goth doctor and your fucking teacher to date, which both confer more interesting stories, better confidant skills, AND sexual fetish fulfillment.

Also Ohya probably legit smells bad. I bet Takemi and Kawakami smell really nice.

In a game with Ann, Futaba, Makoto, Sae, Tae, and Kawakami it's hard to stand out.

I genuinely liked Futaba, Yusuke, Sojiro, and the old politician. Everyone else I can take or leave.

Only the first few ranks of it are this actually, then you pretend to be her boyfriend for a rank or two and then it's her chasing her scoop for the rest of it. Assuming you mean the confidant itself and not getting to trigger the ranks at all, in that case you are sort of correct then
A lot of the confidants Yea Forums praises the most are actually the blandest and more repetitive ones in the game so that isn't a major issue I'm assuming, Ohya's disliked mainly because

The twins were really one-note, they could've been fun but they're probably the worst Velvet Room assistants we've had to date

She gives 3 charm everytime you hang out with her, that's pretty damn good.

Her confidant rewarded my favorite demon so I was going to finish it regardless. I won't deny that it was boring as hell though....Lala was the only fun part about her story.

This was the biggest fucking shot out of left field for me. I went in thinking he was gonna be boring as hell but by the end things I was floored. I'd vote for him any day.

Her kindness is attractive to me, so that played a big role in my liking her story. Plus I like gardening. I also thought her story of navigating the fallout of her dad's death was interesting.

Shinya was alright, just not standout beyond the absurdity of Joker explaining to Sae that he learned how to shoot from some kid addicted to video games. The whole little brother dynamic probably does appeal to some people, though maybe not people within the target audience of these games I suppose.

He (sun) was the first I maxed so that left an extra impression on me. But I really liked his character. Who doesn't like an underdog, especially one that acknowledges his past failures instead of hiding them?

I actually didn't mind her and I'm a Chihaya fag. All the P5 girls are great

Not really, outside the early ones and I guess SJ, SMT MCs aren't that different to Persona MCs, it's everything else around them that makes things different.

Ohya was probably the only girl in the game who acted like a human. The rest were just cardboard cutouts so of course, your average weebcel wouldn't be attracted to her. Not that they're wrong for it; that's just the case.

Tae and Kawakami are very popular though, and people asked for Sae too.

Honestly it mainly just is her pretty bland design that puts people off, if you kept her exactly the same (including the aforementioned shit perks) but made her hot she'd have fans.

Her terrible Confidant bonus dropped her to the bottom of the pile for me for sure, but if that was all it took to make a character unpopular, than the Hanged Man Confidant wouldn't be popular, either. She makes a bad first impression, and isn't all that interesting when you get past that, either. I've heard the "washed-up journalist who got too close to THE TRUTH" story before, and considering how little you interact with her, it wouldn't land anyway.

Yusuke's confidant is and will always be the GOAT. It actually relates to the game's themes instead of being some irrelevant character development ignored by the main story.
