What's your favorite: >Mainline SMT >Spinoff >Persona Game >Character >Memory from any SMT game
Currently playing pic related, why does everything not persona (3, 4 or 5) get slept on, SMT is essentially adult pokemon with actual story and engaging mechanics.
I loved everything of SH but the friend system and the even more ridicilous demon negotation luck filtered me too hard.

Starting up SJR soon, anything to watch out for as I'm leveling my character?

Make sure to get STR based Space Marine, as he's the only one that can really dish damage out.

>Mainline SMT SMT IV >Spinoff Soul Hackers >Persona Game P2 EP >Character Baofu >Memory from any SMT game The entirety of the Expanse section in SMT II was the most immersed I've been in SMT. I loved it.

>SMT IV >Devil Survivor Overclocked >P3 >pic related >YOU TAKE CHANCE! YOU DIG HERE! HURRY!
>Mainline SMT Nocturne >Spinoff Devil Survivor 2 >Persona Game Persona 3 >Character Fumi from Desu2 for non-waifufag reasons but because she's a magic-god >Memory from any SMT game Lucking into the Neutral ending in SMTIV

>Nocturne >Soul Hackers >P5 >Tayama >tokyo reveal in IV, was my first game in the franchise
IV Soul Hackers 5 or 2 Judah Singh 1v1 with Finnegan and the Tokyo reveal in 4 are both high points. It's hard to pin down a best memory though
Hoping we get something really good from SMTV at E3

Hey Yea Forums, I have a friend who loves SMT. I saw his collection of games, and the box art just captures me. I get really interested and think "damn I'd love to play that". However, I'm very novice when it comes to JRPGs as I only play Pokemon and a few FF's on SNES. Also, I get turned off when I hear games take 50+ hours to beat. I love the music, though. Shoji Meguro is prime.
What game is best to get my feet wet with the series? For your troubles, here is the DDS1 intro which I like, though having never played it or any SMT game before.
DDS may be a decent choice as it's more similar to traditional jrpgs like FF. Though if you want something different from what you're used to Nocturne is the way to go.
SMT4’s a pretty good starting point. If you’re too worried about difficulty, then the beginning may be a turn off for you but it becomes progressively easier as you move past the tutorial section. It’s by far the most accessible SMT game, I’m a JRPG novice myself and I got accustomed to the battle system fairly quickly. The biggest downside to playing 4 is that sidequests can be really vague at times and the map itself is pretty overwhelming and annoying to traverse.
Funny thing is that I played Nocturne a bit at his place and while I had fun, it didn't hook me in very much. I should definitely dust off my PS2 and see if he can let me borrow DDS.
Cool. thanks user. Good reminder for me to go hack my 3DS, too...

there is something magical about soul hackers. i think it is because it feels like a time capsule from the 90s. the atmosphere is fucking killer as all hell. i guess you could say is has lots of SOUL.
I agree and think that's why it's hooked me. It's truly the pinnacle of 90's anime cyberpunk aesthetic wrapped around a tight demon friend simulator

SMT IV is a good starting spot unless you're a retro type guy, in which case you might like just going in order from I. After you've started only I and II and IV and Apocalypse are connected story wise but the gameplay takes big strides with each iteration
Wyatt Miller
The mainline games are a bit less like your typical jrpgs in that they focus less on characters and plot, cutscenes being rather short and sparser. With DDS it's similar to other jrpgs with its mechanics and greater emphasis on plot and characters.
It's got a truly unique feel. There's the typical Cyberpunk setting but you've also got the vr game thing Japan loves and then the classic SMT techno-mysticism mixed in. And then you get a layer of Native American mysticism on top of all of them. It's an experience unlike any other

Sorry for stupid questions but from which SMT game is that image from?

>Mainline SMT Lucifer's Call featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry -series >Spinoff Devil Survivor 2 >Persona Game Persona 4 >Character Jack Frost >Memory from any SMT game P4 ending made my cry like a pussy Actually Nocturne is the one with minimal exposition. Other SMT titles are heavier on the storyside though nothing at Persona level.

>Mainline SMT Nocturne >Spinoff Raidou 2 >Persona Game 3 FES >Character Louisa Ferre >Memory from any SMT game I really like the first Dante encounter in Nocturne. All the fiend encounters in general are quite memorable to me.
I should probably get around to playing the DDS games but the idea of no demon recruitment or fusion keeps putting me off.
>love SMT games >only one I ever finished was IV >was super into it at launch, then I got stuck in the neutral route >didn't beat it til 2017 after I realized I had maybe an hour left I'm not even sure what to play next.
how long does it take to finish the games of the series? would i be able to marathon these games (strange journey, raidou 1, smt 4/apocalypse, soul hackers, devil survivor 1/2, persona 4 and q2) this summer or at least this year? i have already finished nocturne, dds 1/2 and persona 3 in that order.
Ian Green
They're all about that length. It's not a series you can easily marathon.
Megaten's defining trait is it's demons. What makes the series so different from not just other jrpgs, but media in general, is it's faithful use of figures from mythologies, folklore, the occult, urban legends, and more. For example, in Final Fantasy the name "Shiva" is used but it's Shiva is just Shiva in name, nothing like the real deity. In megaten this is, in fact, the true Shiva of Hindu mythology, and designed to recreate him just as he appears in Hindu mythology. No series uses such an array of figures while creating faithful and interesting depictions of them.
Depends on how long you play per day, they're mostly fairly lengthy jrpgs. Id recommend just going at a normal pace and not trying to race through. You lose some of the fun if you just play to get to the next one and not to enjoy the experience

>mainline smt nocturne >spinoff DeSu2 >persona game 5 >character Toki, because muh dick >memory Toki publicly orgasming, my fucking dick. Also beating polaris for the first time was kino.
>Mainline SMT IV unironically >Spinoff I've played a bunch but I'll still say Persona 5. They're all fun but I really love mainline and persona games. >Persona Game See above >Character Jimenez >Memory from any SMT game Beating hard bosses like YHVH or Mem Aleph by sheer luck in the very last turn. As for story, persona 3's ending
Liam Lee
Most SMT games are pretty long but Soul Hackers and both DDS games are quite short
