What's the point of becoming a vidya gaem voice actor again? You have no job security, you can be replaced on a dime. If there's a sequel for a game you have to re-audition for your role, they won't contact you and ask to reprise it. If the game uses motion cap you have to do it for your character which can be very risky and unsafe, not to mention draining. You get no respect from the industry, your peers, or GaMeRs. You make dogshit money which all immediately goes toward your LA rent.
Maybe these guys were actually right when they went on strike. Maybe unions really are the answer?

Well other unions have people with certifications and training and even still yes there are small companies who aren't union. Take the electricians union, if you want to build something big like a shopping mall or hotel you are going to need a big company and all of those are union.

I hate dubs and Yea Forums but the Disney classic / The Animated Series era had great voice actors. The thing people need to remember is different culture and language will naturally produce different people and personalities. Like imagine if you tried getting niggers to dub Romance of Three Kingdoms, I don't care if you bring Samuel L. Jackson he will never do Cao Cao justice, it's just an inherent difference and the same applies vice versa. If a Japanese voice actor dies, they'll kill the character off. Voice actors are almost never replaced, and when they are, it's with the approval of the original who usually steps aside because of illness or other reasons. But English voice actors are totally expendable. It's an industry of rejects, people who couldn't make it in real acting, whereas Japanese voice actors are very open about being qualified for real acting but pursue anime and game acting because they love that stuff. This is the difference of an industry of love and an industry of scavengers. As subs become more accepted, you'll start seeing developers save costs by not even bothering with dubs.

There are times when they retire a character when the VA dies but its usually only for secondary characters, they sure as hell aren't ending huge franchise's and main characters just because someone dies.
That being said its rare is shit to see people replaced in Japan for the reasons you said, but it does certainly happen.
