OP, I know it's a dirty word around here but the DQ reddit[/spoiler has a pretty good list pinned up there.
What are the best ways to play each Dragon Quest game? I'm intending to play them chronologically
bump
pretty much what id say 1 to 3 are the best on mobile as far as a balanced game experience, graphics and translation go
the mobile version of 4 has a party chat feature whose function is to give extra characterization but thats about it
4, 5 and 6 on mobile are also on par with the ds versions so it comes down to preference
definately wait for the switch version its gonna have lots more content
1: NES if you want the most default experience. SNES/GBC if you want a less grindy, better looking one.
2. Honestly, unless you just want to go in hard, go SNES/GBC. 2 was hardly play tested and the NES version is stupid at times.
3. SNES version has the most content, and a new class. NES version if you want it to be a tad harder.
4. DS version is missing some features like party chat in the USA version, but does have a bonus dungeon. Worth noting the translation is a bit too meme-y at times. Either DS or NES works here.
5. DS version is great, PS2 version Ihaven't played, but is apparently great. I prefer the DS version to the SNES, but both work and is my favorite DQ.
6. SNES version. They got a bit weird with the DS port by removing most of the monster collecting, that and the game is a bit too easy now.
7. 3DS version in my opinion, no random battles are nice.
8. Tough one. PS2 one on emulator can look gorgeous at times, but the 3DS version has some new/great features. 3DS one is better, PS2 is better to look at.
9. Only on DS
10. Thanks Japan
11. Wait for switch version at this point.
I have not played the IOS/Android versions of any of these and cannot comment on them, but I hear they are fairly well done.
play 10 on the pc
Is it worth emulating the Android version of IV on Bluestacks or something so I can get the party chat? I've never used Bluestacks and have no idea how it works and I don't have a phone either.
As I said here I haven't played them, so can't comment there. 4 is a wonderful game though, so do try it in some form though.
God, I wish.
I can't do it with my Aussie IP address and I can't read moonrunes anyway :(
There are some rumors that they're bringing some ports of older DQ games to Switch soon, in case that matters to you.
We should know in the next few days in any case.
