Oh finally... An Onimusha thread!
Why was Dawn of Dreams the best?

But I love Nioh and that game's basically modern Onimusha if it leaned way fucking heavy into RPG bullshit.

Fuck Crapcom for not remastering the GOAT Onimusha 3.

>inb4 muh licensing issues with actors
It's not like they don't have the money nigger

Nioh is basically Souls shit and that is not what Onimusha is.

No it's not nigger. Nioh is basically just a Dark Souls clone with loot and Onimusha is a hack'n'slah.

Imagine this game running on the RE engine.

Wasn't there a HD version on Steam?

Say it!

Attached: say it.jpg (259x194, 5K)

well I don't know who that is, so you deserve it

>first game is inspired by old samurai movies
>second game is inspired by super sentai and this reflects on the tone and the villains of that game
>third game is a straight up hollywood blockbuster to finish the Samanosuke story
>forth game goes full anime to finish the fight and provide a satisfying ending.
There's not many changes to discuss Onimusha so I wanted to bring this up, I find it very interesting how each entry into the series manages to have a completely different tone without turning away from it's origins.
>tfw blue Oni

For the first game only yeah.

O3 is the shittiest game in the series, Onimusha 2 was the peak.

Kino intro.

Is Takeshi Kaneshiro still a big deal? Last movie I saw him in was that John Woo Battle of Red Cliff movie that goes for like 4 hours, but would be at least ten years ago now.

>Onimusha is actually older than the large majority of Yea Forums

Fucking hell.

You're like a little baby. Watch this
youtube.com/watch?v=4-u_6hgOn6U

It’s samurai resident evil

Always loved the music in that one.

Spare a thought for Genji. The first one is legitimately a good action game, but the IP is only remembered for GIANT ENEMY CRAB.

Soul of the Samurai is closer to a samurai RE.

Genji should be remembered for pushing some great graphics for a ps2 title.

Great soundtrack, too.

The remaster really came and went like a fart in the wind diddn't it?

I'm gonna start 3 tomorrow. Can i expect it to be as long as 2 or as short as 1? I liked chad Jubei more than virgin Samo.

Didn't even get mentioned in Capcom's most recent financial report, so I'm assuming it sold pretty badly.

I think it pissed a lot of people off that they didn't bother to include the extra content from the Xbox version.

>your name is... gogandantess, greatest swordsman of all demons
>thank you, jubei
>you received respect orb

Attached: 1521419373047.jpg (710x473, 71K)

He truly was the GREATEST SWORDSMAN OF ALL DEMONS!

Wasn't it released just before REmake 2? That probably didn't help.

It also doesn't include the original OST because of plagiarism or some shit.
So you don't get the good shit like this:

Onimusha 2 is a fantastic corny video game.

He's still handsome as fuck and a prolific model.

>remake only the first game
>doesn't even have the extra content that was added to the xbox version
why THE FUCK didn't they just remaster all 4 and release it as a collection for $60 instead of ONLY the first game for 20, jesus fuck what a stupid move

I bought it on some user's recommendation. It's in the backlog but i played a bit to make sure the disc worked. I got the impression that it was kind of an entry level action game in the same vein as Sekiro, i actually got the impression it was very similar. I also got the impression that the moveset i have at the start is all i'm gonna get. Am i correct? The game looks fun though, once i am done with Onimusha i'll make sure to play it the next time i have a craving for the genre.

I didn't like what i saw of that special counter mechanic though, unless things change with the difficulty it's ridiculously lenient for normal enemies. The timing was seconds long.

>It's another Nioh is like Onimusha post

Superficially plot-wise they're KIND OF similar in that they're both Sengoku demon plots but they play nothing alike.

Onimusha was much closer to DMC meets Resident Evil than Nioh (Which is what is what is was "sold" as)

>mom buys a cheap used ps2 with a bunch of games
>pop in one after the other to see what they are
>most of them are not very good
>onimusha
>"the fuck is this? what's with the controls? this is stupid..."
>several hours later
>"user, it's time for bed"
>"but i want to keep playing onimusha..."

Good times.

I always remember this track when thinking about Onimusha 2

The only game I haven't played. Is that actually good? Most people don't seem to like it that much.

Might've actually been me, I shill the original Genji pretty relentless in samurai game threads.

It's pretty solid action fare of the era with some light RPG elements, though it's not nearly as good as, say DMC3 or NGB. iirc the moveset did open up a bit later on, but I haven't played it for a good while so I might be misremembering.

It's safe to say that if that was some sort of test to gauge reception to a series reboot or re-release then that prospect went down the toilet.

Although the whole series is great, Onimusha 2 is the most kino and this is probably why it never got a sequel - it was already perfect.

>That game that featured both protags

Attached: PA.24065.002.jpg (360x360, 47K)

It's the most content rich Onimusha it plays differently depending on the character you play. The playable characters themselves are copies of Onimusha 2 companions. Most of the criticism of it comes from it being a new story with a new lead with old character reduced to background info(Jubei) or poorly obfuscated and repacked into different skins(Samonosuke).

>Comes out of nowhere
>Jubei: "Who are you?!"
>"Heh, i'm glad you asked :D"

>Onimusha 2 is a fantastic corny video game.
I kinda miss when video games could be like that. Same as stuff like Xena on TV. Can't have corny fun anymore.

Yeah, wouldn't be cynical at all to think it was only done to gauge interest in the IP in the wake of Nioh's success. Wonder if they lost money on having to re-license Kaneshiro's likeness?

It was pretty cheap so even if it doesn't blow me away it should be worth the journey.

Attached: Shrug.png (1266x712, 719K)

He would have said it even if he didn't ask.

>Nioh is Souls shit
Yeah, remember how Dark Souls takes place in demon-infested Sengoku Japan where you use spiritual energy to transform into super modes while focusing on actual action game content that varies heavily based on what sort of Japanese weapon type you are using?
>Nioh is a Dark Souls Clone with loot and Onimusha is a hack'n'slash
Nioh's plenty hack'n'slashy--much more than the laboriously slow Dark Souls is.
>They play nothing alike!
Yeah, you definitely don't fend off hordes of demons while charging up a spirit gauge super form (which you use absorbed spirits to level up) while fighting your way towards recurring plot-based bosses in either game.
Yeah, Onimusha rests way harder on being similar to Resident Evil titles with how it presents its horror and has fixed camera shots while Nioh is much more of a free-camera action game and pulls tons of mechanics from other titles like Way of the Samurai, Dark Souls, and Ninja Gaiden, but I'll stand by the fact that Nioh has more in common with Onimusha thematically than it does with Dark Souls.

Losing the rights to a character's likeness never stopped Capcom for continuing a series before, even if said characters looks nothing like its former self

Attached: 874.jpg (1600x900, 255K)

The series is a quagmire of expired licenses they would have to renegotiate

They don't have to try because they already remodeled Samonosukes face for Dawn of Dreams. They can do so again.

Following on the ludicrousness of people saying Nioh is like Dark Souls in presentation--Nioh has you play a named protagonist with personal stakes that drive him into the demon-embroiled conflict and have him pursuing specific demons and interacting with other characters in a historical fiction piece.
That's infinitely more like like Onimusha than it is Dark Souls and it frustrates me that people see the fact that Nioh's a masocore game as being indicator that it's somehow a dark souls clone and nothing more, refusing to acknowledge just how much it tips itself towards predecessors like Onimusha.

Meant specifically in regards to the recent remaster, which also had completely re-recorded dialogue and Kaneshiro credited as "guest creator" (whatever that means).

Because it's true. Souls is the current standard for this kind of shit so you see a lot of clones. Nioh is no exception. Personally I wish they'd ditch the Souls crap because I do quite enjoy the rest of the game.

>tfw still no Onimusha 2 pc port

they didn't lose the rights for Voth's likeness, though.

Kaede>Kotaro>Oyu>Ekkei Magoichi

From a gameplay standpoint. I was pretty disappointed with how Mgoichi plays, i liked him as a character.

Magoichi was probably the most OP character in the game. Sure it's boring to stand far away and just pew pew at everything but man even the strongest genma and robots were dying like flies to him

>play DoD
>my face when this theme comes on

It's very boring, especially because his gun has no OOMPH. I was expecting it to be like the first game where the Tanegashima sounds like your blasting a canon but his sounds puny. His basic combo is just 2 hits and does no damage, his charge moves suck except the final one which is ok, his ranged item does seemingly nothing and his magic attack is just spam more bullets. The only melee move he has that does anything is his secret technique. In the end he is barebones in melee and they didn't do anything interesting with his ranged moveset.

Capcoms redemption arc is not complete without Onimusha tbf.

>Not Soki's theme
youtube.com/watch?v=VEWZPTEwPNg

Do you start Dawn of Dreams with all of your moveset or do you get more as you progress like Onimusha 2?

RE engine Onimusha when?

Didn't mean to reply

Never and if DMCV is any indication that's a good thing.

What's wrong with DMCV? I've yet to play it.
