I just finished this and, being the brainlet I am, I'm confused about the ending:

Why does the Arisen have access to two Godsbanes? Is it a special gift from Grigori? Savan didn't seem to like the Seneschal life too much, if he had one like the current Arisen, couldn't he have killed himself, too?

Also, what's the consequence of the Arisen's choice of killing themselves and letting their pawn take over their body? Is the world free of a Seneschal now? Did we break the cycle or just trust the responsibility into our pawn? There's no dragon to be slain anymore, can the pawn just live in peace now?

Please respond

I think two Godsbane is a rather gameplay thing. They wanted to give you the opportunity to use it before the final.
The actual person that is Savan did probably the same thing you did in the end: he killed himself with the Godsbane. What you faced in the end was the "ascended" godhead, whose whole purpose is to hold the universe together.
And no, you didn't break the cycle. If you go into new game + you will face your own character at the end. The cycle is eternal.

>The cycle is eternal
Only if I start a new game
Saoirse and Selene will live comfortable and peaceful lives in my old house in Cassardis

>Saoirse
I see I'm not the only one that took a random NPC as his beloved.

There's an NPC named Saoirse? I didn't know that. I named my player character Morrigan
I didn't know what to name her, so I went through the premade names, laughed at all the Capcom references and picked Morrigan. To keep it a bit Celtic, I decided to name my pawn Saoirse
It was a good fit, since Saoirse means freedom and in the end, she's finally free

Nah, I mistook you, since Selene lives in your house anyway when you do her quest I thought you married some random NPC named Saoirse.
>It was a good fit, since Saoirse means freedom and in the end, she's finally free
That's sweet.

> two Godsbanes
???

JUST POSTED ON MH TWITTER, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? THAT ISN'T THE DARK ARISEN OR ONLINE ART.

The longsword Godsbane that Savan gives you and the dagger Godsbane Grigori gives you

Seems just like some promo art for DD Switch, which is kinda sad. DD is a fun game but holy shit it's unpolished as hell, a sequel with a bigger budget and timeframe would make a fantastic game

>and the dagger Godsbane Grigori gives you
Huh? I don't remember Grigori giving you a sword? Didn't he just return your heart and curse the world to eternal darkness or something?

Why does Yea Forums like Into Free so much? Eternal Return is such a fantastic song

because its such an out of place music and got stuck in your head, also into the free version got Berserk armor

Tell me silly pawn stories. I love pawns.

It's exactly what the backdrop shows. Monster Hunter World's new expansion, Iceborne. It's from the trailer that premiered a month or two back.

Don't bother trying to understand DD lore, it's a hot convoluted mess

>PS4 Dark Arisen first run, going through BBI aiming to complete post daimon since finally found out about throwblasts after all these years
>Made my big bro my pawn, he's a chubby bastard who hates running and won't use his large mushrooms
>Haven't ever had my pawns died before in this run until I went to BBI, and even then I always made sure to save my main pawn
>I liked to imagine that my mc wouldn't know if going back to the rift means he'd lose all of his memories, experiences, and the time they had together
>He knew that the other pawns in his party are safe even when dead since they're back in the rift, but he's uneasy with the idea of his main pawn dying
>Corrupted pawns and the fuckery of the island could also give the chance that he's gone for good if his main pawn dies there
>Go to Daimon's chamber, fight him and he uses his rift tear move for the second time when he only has two health bars left
>Got out of its range and waited for pawns to come running to me
>Pawns trapped in his attack, but my main pawn almost makes it out because he actually runs for once
>But then he runs out of stamina and gets trapped because he was trying to catch his breath
>Even then, he STILL wouldn't eat his mushrooms
>Sent back to the rift, my mc is fucking pissed
>Daimon is killed , and my mc returns to the island's surface
>Goes to the riftstone terrified, he doesn't know if his pawn will come back or not
>Main pawn materializes back into the realm, comments on Daimon's now dead, letting my mc know that he's still the same pawn

I like to imagine that he then hugs the pawn, and Eternal Return then starts playing. That and how extravagant the other pawns in my party died made me feel like that run could have been made into a manga adaption.

Savan probably understood what it mean to be the Seneschal and avoided killing himself because of it. He clearly had a Godsbane in him, but didn't use him

One think that I don't understand fully, tho: the king of Gran Siren is mentioned to have been an Arisen in the past and that he even defeated a dragon too. Was that a lie? Why did he suddenly age when you defeat the dragon? Is the Arisen free to not follow his destiny and allow another Arisen to rise in the future?

Is that the lady singing one?
I prefer that. It gave me a weird, subtle sense of butterflies when I pressed a button to go into the menu.
In the original ps3 version iirc I had the rock song, which was cool but weird and out of place.

IIRC he gave up his lover in exchange for eternal life / becoming a king, if I'm not mistaken Grigori offers you the same condition even though you cannot accept it.

>I like to imagine that he then hugs the pawn
Interactions like this with your pawns could be great.
>press x to headpat pawn

>Was that a lie?
Yes, he was the Arisen destined to kill Grigori, but instead he let him take his Beloved Lenore. That's why he keeps going through multiple maidens, he can't find someone to replace her
As soon as you kill Grigori, his miracle that grants him power is broken and he's turned back into his human form

>Is the Arisen free to not follow his destiny
Maybe? The world would be in constant threat of a dragon attack, though

THE WIND IS

Just Grab the pawn, bro.

The Duke never killed the dragon, he took the "sacrifice your loved one" route and ended up becoming Duke because he'd convinced everyone he'd killed the monster and they believed him. If you decide to sacrifice your beloved, you get a bad ending where you're the new Duke.

It's implied that this has been going on for a really fucking long time, if the Dragonforged is any indication; no Arisen has actually beaten the dragon in centuries, and you're the first to legitimately do so, so when you do every current Arisen gets their heart back at the same time as you, which results in them losing immortality and aging instantly to however old they actually are.

Yes, Arisen don't have to slay the dragon and that's why The Dragonforged is still alive. Arisen don't HAVE to face the dragon, but they're usually pressured into doing so.

The duke never beat the dragon, in exchange for his beloved, the dragon fucked off and dematerialized from the realm until the seneschal wanted him to find another arisen/a set amount of time passes. Tigard why age suddenly catches up with him when you beat the dragon since he got his heart back, and why Dhe Dragonforged turns into dust. Speaking about The Dragonforged, the theory with him is that he's the forgotten king, Godking Leonart, and sacrificed his beloved in order to gain a kingdom in return. The dragon came back, but he got to it before the arisen after him did, and failed in killing him. That's why he's sulking around in a cave, his weapon broke, had to use his fists until they were forged into NANOMACHINES levels of strength by the dragon, and lost his kingdom on top if his beloved. Which is why his pawn is now called The Fool.

>tfw just reinstalled and started over a few days ago
Rate my pawn

We gotta be careful with that though. If an arisen gets too attached to his pawn we could get a dark arisen sequel.

I think one Godsbane is a tool used to forfeit your physical form and ascend to seneschal, while the second is more ceremonial purposes, a symbol of one seneschal passing on their duties to the next.
As for the cycle, it's one big test to find someone with the willpower to fuel life, and it slowly drains the seneschal of that power. Once they become weaken enough, they send out a dragon tasked to find another to replace them, testing them to various degrees to make sure they're up to the task. A pawn has no free will of it's own and is bound to serve it's master, so a Seneschal's gift once they ascended is to give them the physical body they forfeited and with it free will.

how do i dragonforge my pawn's stuff

do i really have to go wear his stuff when i go kill the lesser dragons and just pray for rng?

Yes

Reminder that warrior class long sword fags are brainlets and shegoat is the worst waifu

Attached: Griffith and the band of hawks laugh at you.jpg (693x535, 201K)

Yes. It has to be upgraded in order to farm from non BBI dragons though. The higher the upgrade the better the rng chance.

better question, how do i get masterwears?

you can't go wrong, they're masterworks all.

Make the smithy's apprentice your beloved. She'll craft you masterwears to put on once you go back to cassardis.

Give the gold idol to Jewtits, she has better clothes, especially if you want slutwear.

>tfw forgot to do the quest early game which enables madeline's shop
I'm screwed for slutwear aren't I?

Nope, her first escort quest isn't necessary, though you need to do the one where you follow Julien around at night

Yeah that's the one I just didn't do. Guess I can restart on hard mode at some point.

From what I remember, the Seneschal is basically tired of the video game he's playing and wants out of the arcade. I need to replay this as a warrior or something but I'm scared that the wizard was too fun and spoiled me.

>From what I remember, the Seneschal is basically tired of the video game he's playing and wants out of the arcade
The entire main game is a meta-commentary on playing video games. Grigori states how the actual world doesn't turn if the Arisen isn't around to do things.
I don't mean in some "deep" way, more tongue-in-cheek. It's what the quote at the beginning is about.

Are Sorcerers really that fun? I kinda want to try to roll one, but I feel they are too squishy.

If you're a mage and you're getting hit, you're doing it wrong. Also, have you seen the shit they can do? The entire battlefield goes to hell and back when one of them is on the party. That gets crazier if you run with 4 sorcs.

Not him but all you need is a decent pawn with the right inclinations to make it work

A fighter pawn is really good anyway since the Ai is smarter when doing perfect blocks and perfect defense
Also legion's maw is ridiculously good aoe

Only downside is that you cant do golems as sorc
