No, regardless of their weapon people will still shit on anything FE related. The problem is absolutely the number of fighters, even if all 7 FE characters in smash had unique movesets and clearly different animations there would still be a problem.

Jesus you are deluded. Listen man, I fucking love FE. One of my favorite series. But it does not need 7 reps, it does not need even 4. That is why people hate it. Me, personally, I hate that the movesets are similar, but that is because of my bias to the series I don't mind there being so many characters.

People who have never played FE don't see that. They see a FE character and that's it. Immediate dislike. When people make lists of characters they want gone in smash, they include Robin them them 9 times out of 10, despite being nothing at all like any other FE character in smash and being the best representative of the series mechanics. The problem is not the similarities, it's the existence in general. Hell, most people would only keep Marth and maybe Ike around just because they're series staples at this point.

I think it'd still be a problem, but not nearly as much of one, there's a reason you don't see people shitting on Ike or Robin as much as the other 5 characters

It wouldn't be a massive problem the way it is now, but it'd still be a problem. Fire Emblem, of all fucking series, doesn't deserve the amount of reps it has, especially with half of those being the same fucking character. Fucking Zelda doesn't get that many reps, and the Links are all slightly different variations of each other while Ganondorf is a fucking clone of someone not even from the series.

It's absurd that Fire Emblem, fucking FIRE EMBLEM, the series that got in because "muh anime shilling" and was pretty much dead in the west even with said shilling, gets so many reps just flooding the roster when they don't need it. Marth, Ike, Robin and MAYBE Corrin - that's the FE roster right there. No fucking need for all these redundant clones of the same anime prettyboy/girl.

Yeah, there would absolutely be less complaining, but look at Corrin for example, as you said, a very unique addition, but is still hated regardless. Admittedly, it doesn't help that Corrin has the personality of a piece of cardboard, but look at how bad the problem is already, with even the mere suggestion of a FE character, not even talking about moves, there is already disapproval.

Maybe if each rep had unique moves from the start, maybe it would be different. But at this point, there's no changing that without a hard reboot of the series, and that's very unlikely.

it should've been Robin, in Warriors, Heroes, and Echoes they only use magic, and in Fates they can achieve a higher weapon proficiency rank in tomes than swords, so the bias towards magic is already there. Maybe to acknowledge Robin using swords at all they could conjure a levin sword for a few of their attacks but it's still themed around magic.

Or they could add Black Mage as DLC but anime sword boy #30 was too popular to pass up

Marth, Ike, Robin, that should be all the FE representation in the next game assuming they are cutting characters. Awakening doesn't need 3 fucking characters and Roy and Corrin can fuck off, they only got in to promote their shitty games before launch.

That's the only thing that is even making me doubt this, since they could have just used the "Coming!" Kanji from the rest of the newcomers, but actually managed to write "Production Decision", implying its a character being made separate from the rest of the fighter pass.
