It's not a simulator so yeah
It's basically an anime game

It’s a fun game. Had loads of fun when I was a kid. Just sit back and play.

what's a good place to start? AC 1?

Think of it less as planes and more of a mecha anime like gundam. They're fun to play as long as you don't hate the idea of plane movement/controls.
Start with 4.

AC04, 5 and Zero are the generally recommended ones to start with, in that order.

It's really just an arcade game with a campy anime plot. It's really fun.

No. Ignore 1, it’s really terrible looking and basic playing bad port of an arcade cabinet game.

Start with 4 and play 5 and 0.

2 and the Japanese version of 3 are cool too.

Skip 6.

7 is awesome gameplay wise.

alright neat.
Hearing it's not too grounded in realism with elements from anime means i'll probably enjoy this.
thanks lads.

Have fun user.
If you're lucky, maybe you'll end up liking planes a little bit more after it's all done.

I think 6 is alright if you liked 4, 5, and 0. It's not a must play but it had some stuff going for it.

>No. Ignore 1, it’s really terrible looking and basic playing bad port of an arcade cabinet game.
Wrong. It's an entirely diffferent game that just used the same title. And even then, it was only called Air Combat outside of Japan. It's not related to the arcade game in any other way.

>Skip 6
6 is good though. About on par with 7. The problem is being able to play it in the first place. Emulation isn't there yet and I can't remember if it's BC on the xbone

It is. They even gave away free copies with AC7 preorders.

I'm dumb how could I forget the pre-order.

if you find the idea of flying a plane interesting then sure
you don't need to be some military autist, it's practically an arcade game so as long as you like the idea of flying around and shooting down other planes you'll enjoy it
4, 5 and 0 are the best but if you can't get your hands on them then 2, 3 (fan translation), X, 6 and 7 are the next best thing. Don't worry about chronological order

That was 5, not 6.

PS4 got AC5, Xbone got AC6

Once you are done with the PS2 trilogy go play ACX on a PSP emulator. A seriously underrated and cool game.

It's pretty much Gundam with planes

I don't care too much about planes but really like the games.

5 was the bonus for PS4. 6 was the bonus for Xbone. PC got nothing.

Don't skip 6

I'll live

it's real good
4 5 and 6 are the "golden era" and the must plays of the series, i'd personally add 7 to that list as well
1 is weird and skippable, 2 is really good but just an arcade game really, 3's japanese version has a god tier story that was cut in the US release
have fun, they're really good games

oh and no, you don't have to give a shit about planes, but there's a good chance you'll have a passing interest once you play them.

4 5 and 0 are the must plays, 6 is extremely debatable.

i didn't actually play 6 myself but i heard good things

and i forgot 0 too im retarded

The demon returns as a great hero

I have no idea why half of people discussing AC talk about 6 as if it's a stain on the series. Story wise it's probably the weakest but the gameplay and graphics were by far the best they've ever been.
