No. Part of what made fusion creepy was the claustrophobic restrictions of only moving in the x and y planes, I don’t think it would be as effective in creating tension

You've played Titanfall 2? Put a Metroid skin on it: boom. That game is exactly how I imagine Zero Mission/Super Samus moving around in 3D space. Speed booster would still be tricky but I think it can be done.

I don't think it would work out well translated to 3d though. I think the SA-X chases work best in 2d because you can see it chasing you and getting up from ice missiles out of the corner of your eye on the gba screen. In 3d you would turn away and know its there but you would lose that" Oh shit i can see it moving again" moment

Twin stick shooting is garbage, and even with Splatoon's success I still feel like gyro aiming isn't that well regarded for its implementaton to not be controversial.
Lock-on isn't any better though. At that point they they might as well use Metroid blast as a base but with more polish and good running speed/platforming. At the very least the joy-cons make for readily avaliable wiimotes.
