Does PDHD allow for more than 4 players? Or is it like the N64 version, 4 players + 8 simulants?
4v4 and 2v2v2v2 CtF matches would be rad as fuck.

I want Perfect Dark on PC with mod support so baaaaaaaaad. Partially because the XBLA version messes some stuff up. Partially because I'd love to tinker with Perfect Dark without resorting to the N64 version's fan editor.
Mods? Like what? I can't even think of stuff that PD is missing, asides from allowing 8~12 simultaneous players, and running in higher resolutions.
Total access to the guts of the game. Let me tinker with the AI, tinker with the stealth mechanics, let me refine the game into something that doesn't have to work around the limitations of the N64 CPU.
weapon rebalancing
any automatic weapon is pretty much instant kill on headshot
You ever wonder why Cassandra surrounds herself with women who dress in leather jackets and white pants with knee-length boots?
Yes, more than 8 players online. 4 player splitscreen plus sims.
I'll be super excited if it comes to Steam. This, Timesplitters and Halo MCC is really all I need.
>any automatic weapon is pretty much instant kill on headshot
That's intentional. Headshots are one hit kills with any weapon regardless of the weapon's power. This is basically a sacred design tenet of both GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. If headshots aren't an instant kill, everything goes to shit. The trick is figuring out how to make headshots more difficult to pull off. Things like enemies wearing helmets. Things like guns having a bit more Klobb-style bullet spray. But you can't have enemies surviving bullets to the face. That's just not right. When you play Rainbow 6 or other games in the same vein as GE/PD, enemies don't survive being shot in the head.
Okay, okay. There is one compromise some games come up with. I'm not a huge fan, though. What you do is have different damage multipliers if enemies are alerted. So idling enemies die instantly from headshots, but an unalerted one MIIIIIIGHT take a headshot without dying, particularly from a distance if you're doing damage decay based on distance.
Unless you mean MP?
i was just referring to multi
combined with how much knockback automatic weapons are capable of there's never a reason to use shit like pistols, Shotguns, Sniper Rifle, etc
Yea, I get what you're saying.
maybe ammo could be cut but multiplayer maps are setup to fight over certain guns. even as kids we understood this and set the custom sets up accordingly to not to give the best weapons easy camp spots. seems plenty balanced to me already when you can move things around to make whatever guns you like interesting in a mix.
Same reason everyone else would if they were that rich. She has good taste.
GET HERRRRR
You DID buy this guide with the game, right user?

Also why is Carrington such a manlet?
Man I bought this one and the Goldeneye one. I've still got a huge stack of N64 Era Nintendo Powers too. I'm gonna play some PD
>Joanna that tall
WHO AH YOU AND WOT AH YOU DOIN ERE
INTRUDER
ALERT
WHY... ME?
THAT'S NOT HOW IT GOES!
I DON'T WANNA DIE
>gets shot in the head mid roll
>stands up
>falls down
no
>modern FPS
>shoots anywhere
>either rangdolls or instagib
It is like they stopped trying.
I DON'T BELIEVE IT!
THIS GUN... IS USELESS!
Chris Seavor did a number of the NPC voices. The "squirrely" sounding ones are him.
"LET HER HAVE IT!"
because of Deepercutt I thought this line was from Resident Evil 4
Well, Joana, I'm Protector One. But you can call me... Elvis.
Elvis is fucking kino and I will fight anyone who doesn't like him. He's a welcome counterpoint to every other super cereal Grey character. He's basically Scottish Yoda mixed with Max from Flight of the Navigator. And that's awesome. That's the Rare spirit. And I fear that a new Perfect Dark would ditch that kind of "who gives a fuck, I want an Ameriboo alien in my cyberpunk FPS" attitude.
>the XBLA version messes some stuff up
You can't make accusations like that without evidence. I asshume that you have some?
I love the GoldenEye engine's logic of "I can't die yet, I gotta finish my sick roll move first!"
I've been hoping for Perfect Dark HD on PC at every Microsoft event ever since it fucking came out on the 360. I don't have much hope left.
The music is slightly the wrong pitch on some tracks. Even Norgate/Kirkhope noticed when it was pointed out to them. The main menu "scanning" effect doesn't originate from the end of the tunnel which is typically a bit center-left, but from the centre of the screen. Which is annoying because the way every HUD element is basically scanned from left to right is really cool.
If Rare Replay had released a year later, MS would have been obliged to release it on PC. But it released just before Play Anywhere became a thing.
This is the recording of a meeting between Sony and the other conspirators.
They're really trying to look good right now, and they're going on about bringing their in-studio games everywhere. This and next year are the best odds we've ever had of getting PDHD on PC.
Also give me Master Chief Collection WITH LOCAL CO-OP, YOU FUCKS.
It's interesting how being stuck on consoles tends to hobble games long-term. People still talk about System Shock 2 and Thief and stuff in a present tense because you can buy them on Steam and they have modding communities that are accessible. The likes of Perfect Dark, while they're still beloved and get talked about reasonably often, aren't something you can just install off Steam.
PC gamers give a shit about older games in a way that console audiences generally don't.
A lot of old console/handheld games follow this strange pattern where discussion declines after a while, but sometimes it gets a niche revival if a romhacking, speedrunning, etc scene comes out for it. Just look at Mario 64, for example.
>a new Perfect Dark would ditch that kind of "who gives a fuck, I want an Ameriboo alien in my cyberpunk FPS" attitude.
They already did that with Zero. Fuck that game, worthless piece of shit. I bought a fucking 360 on launch day for that trash.
In its defense, Zero was a prequel. Elvis was back in PD: Core, which got cancelled.
The point is less that Zero needed Elvis, and more that Zero needed to not be a joyless fucking slog.
No one could have predicted that! And I resent being singled out for blame! What about *him*?
Did I miss the memo or something? Whats this about PC Perfect Dark
>shoot weapon out of their hands
>cap them in the foot and watch them Gumby slide away from you in fear
I think I lot faith in Zero around the moment a grown man leaped into the air and corkscrewed his way out a window. PD had a unique aesthetic. Its technology had weight. Zero was like everything wrong with early 2000s action movies crammed into a single game.
I presume people think that Microsoft is gonna bring the Rare Replay collection to PC. God knows I'd vastly prefer it over the MCC.
The President turned down your request for the loan of the Pelagic
II? Could it be you overestimated your influence over him?
64 + gameshark allowed you to make custom guns among other things. Shit was fun as hell.
>Did I miss the memo or something? Whats this about PC Perfect Dark
Folks keep hoping that MS's renewed commitment to PC means they'll port Rare Replay to Windows. Most of the pre-Play Anywhere stuff has been ported, including Sunset Overdrive. There's also rumours Rare Replay is coming to Switch, so it would be annoying if PC got left out.
Not him, but I recently got an Xbone S and rare replay; I forgot about that scene, so I laughed my ass off when it happened.
Yes it is!
I thought you guys might have been talking about something like Golden Eye Source. I wouldn't get my hopes up for that but would be hype
"No!"
Mr Blonde is one of the coolest antagonists in gaming. He's cold, calculating, physically menacing, yet he never loses his temper. He's a snake creature riding in a mech using super advanced holographic technology to disguise himself as a human being. That's cool.
Perhaps I underestimated his resolve. We have a contingency plan ready to go, and we will move as soon as the Presidential entourage arrives at the air base. All I need from the President is a tissue sample.
There was a Perfect Dark Source I played more than a decade ago I guess. It was an early alpha and only had a couple weapons. It never went anywhere though and the time where sourcemods had large populations is long since past.
For what it's worth, rumours have been floating around for a while that MS are making a new Perfect Dark. But I am kinda scared of what form it will take. They could fuck it up sooooooo badly.
Ha. Assuming you don't get any interference. If Carrington has pieced together enough of this, he will have called for reinforcements.
>They could fuck it up sooooooo badly
*absolutely would
Games, especially FPSes don't take risks anymore. The current formula is what has been approved by focus tests, and is the flavorless gruel FPS games will be if they want that "mass audience appeal" they desperately crave
There will be no outside help for Mr. Carrington. The technology you gave us is installed in Nevada and fully operational. We can intercept any craft they use.
Why nude mods of course, why else would 90% of this board play PD other than Joanna being an underrated 9/10?
>the devices the Skedar gave Trent's subordinates in Area 51 appear to be air interceptors manufactured by humans on Earth
>Maian ship was flying low enough to be taken down by these, killing 2 of the 3 occupants
>Joanna takes these things out with a few pistol shots
Are the Maians actually retarded?
Also bet any money they wouldn't give a fuck about local split screen multiplayer, or even customizable multiplayer, or bots. but the ad campaign will play up the slightly-better-than-COD online like it's a true successor.
I can't help noticing that both the hoverbikes/air interceptors and the Skedar ships share similar visual design. I wouldn't be surprised if the hoverbikes were originally meant to be Skedar.
BLOODY STUPID GUN!!
Perfect Dark and Goldeneye both have game designs that I absolutely love, where it's not usually as simple as "keep blasting enemies until you get to the end" because there's usually things to do in the level in order to complete the objectives. It's like an in-between of sandbox and linear design, where you know to keep moving forward, but there's things you have to do along the way. Plus I love how each level changes depending on the difficulty because of new objectives being added, so a room the was meaningless on Agent difficulty is actually an important place where something happens on Perfect Agent/00 Agent difficulty. I like this, it feels like it's actually doing something meaningful to add challenge instead of just cranking up enemy health/damage/accuracy like every other shooter game.
Also, Perfect Dark's levels and music have this distinct gothic-cyberpunk feel to them that makes them all memorable. Every mission has its regular theme music and then an amped up version when you get to a particularly action-y/tense moment. It's superb. I fucking love these games.
I stayed up until 2am to get Perfect Dark remastered when it """dropped""" in 2010.
I was quite sad when I learned the online was a dysfunctional clusterfuck.
>Also, Perfect Dark's levels and music have this distinct gothic-cyberpunk feel to them that makes them all memorable. Every mission has its regular theme music and then an amped up version when you get to a particularly action-y/tense moment.
One issue with music and game design is a lot of FPS developers seem unwilling to really PUMP UP THE JAM because it drowns out the environmental sound. The only exceptions are really stuff like DOOM 2016.
what was the name of the fps, I think it was ps3 or ps2, you were a spy and you spent the first level breaking out of a chinese prison? it had this objective based design too. cannot remember its name though
Cold Winter. I always liked that game. Had an amazing gore system. Shame it's stuck on PS2.
Don't know what game you're referring to, but Thief 1 and 2 were a good example of gaining new objectives on higher difficulties.
>"What the hell was that?!"
>"We have to get you to the escape pod, follow me!"

the 10/10 music, art direction, level design, missions, gadgets, guns, etc?

original Joanna model/voice > Zero Joanna model/voice
Imagine if Joanna subdued me by pinning me down and unleashing a 12 second long braaaaaaaap apocalypse.
brapfaggots are subhuman
Reminder that Joanna Dark and Perfect Dark was basically just the product of an experimental Rareware name generator that took lots of word and shuffled them around. The Joan d'Arc similarity was pure coincidence.
Imagine if Wizpig from Diddy Kong Racing and the Erymanthian Boar from Assassin's Creed Odyssey joined forces with Troff and Scoff from Donkey Kong 64 to eat and eat and eat and then, after letting the mixture brew for a few hours, unleash a sweet and porky braaaaaap-storm on cue.
To be honest, the model of Joanna was the one thing I did like about Zero.
None of those are zero, those were for the HL2 mod.
Still
racist
>, right user?
kys
>needing guides
kys again
The lore says that a good chunk of alien tech was leaked by the Maians to Carrington to reduuce culture shock, and by the Skedar to Datadyne to further their agenda. So it probably is Skedar tech.
God I've always wanted a PD sequel. I want Joanna back brehs
she's a cute! A CUTE!
When Datadyne troops took Carrington hostage at his own villa, did anyone consider calling the cops? That would be like if you pissed off G4S so they sent a bunch of their armed guards to hold you hostage at your house. Carrington Institute isn't a government agency, either, so it's basically two private corporations going to war with each other.
>those grips
> Master Chief Collection WITH LOCAL CO-OP
They literally said it´s not a priority because
>"hurr, how do we sign in more than one person per machine"
They seem to forget Halo 2 and 3 had "guest" accounts that would sign in as extensions to the main one.
dont tell me you wouldn't want a gripjob
>Yea Forums giving a shit about good game design
