that's a good question, it's the best platform fighter
It hasn't got many famous guest characters other than Ori and Shovel Knight.
a lot of smart decisions with control scheme/customization, DI, standardizing defensive mechanics like rolls
absa is a great redesigned zelda
people offput by anthro
This
That's the reason why I didn't get it: I didn't dig the designs
furshit
it's not on switch
Smash is the game's main competition.
The fact that the game isn't completely dead in the water by now is a testament to how good it is.
As a long time competitive Smashfag, it's legitimately good. Movement is crisp and feel great, the characters are all well balanced, stages have more variety than Smashes, it even has a cool color editor for your characters that can be used online. My only real issue is that grabs don't exist, but that's obviously not a bad thing because it does work without and a few characters have grab-esque attacks anyway.
It's supposedly getting a ""definitive"" version this year at some point with all the dlc and what not packed together, its Switch release, etc, but there's still no recent news on that yet.
because the game its based on has a newer installment and is better overall
it takes skill
Yeah I heard about the Switch release a while ago but I haven't seen any info on it since.
Because visual design is very important for a fighting game, you can be mechnically solid like "A Wonderful World" but if you look like ass people aren't going to be too into it youtu.be
Considering the game primarly competes with Smash, which not only has a singificantly more varied and iconic roster, a billion more stages even if 90% of those shits are banned, and many other ways to play it, people will be hard pressed to get into it. The other primary competitor is Melee, with the most stubborn fucking fanbase known to man. RoA did a good job, but it doesn't have the giant budget or mass appeal Smash has, and the designs themselves are furry and turns people away.
...
It works for Smash.
Imagine a games life relying on updates
pretty fun game but literally every time i see that shit-ass marth clone it makes me wish i'd gotten onboard with the damn thing before they added it.
>how can we make sure our marth clone is top tier?
>DUHUHUHUHUHUH HOW ABOUT WE ADD A TIMESTOP GIMMICK AND AN AERIAL DEFENSE MECHANISM THAT NO OTHER CHARACTER HAS AND NO OTHER CHARACTER CAN COMPETE WITH
you know it's fucking BAD when even the devs were tweeting "guys it's not that fucking bad just learn to play please we PROMISE it's not a balance problem PLEASE"
Because while smash has a bunch of gay furry antro shit it also has a shit ton of other characters too.
alive thread
alive game
It's coming out for switch soon, most likely with crossplay
>check the latest update
>they nerfed him again
My only real issue with the visuals is that the sprites themselves are way too fucking small to tell their moves apart before you gain significant experience with the game, its not like Slap City or Brawlhalla where most of the Roster is ugly as shit
cragchads rise up
most of his nerfs were for shit that he didn't need and he's still 3rd best in the game. he's pretty well balanced at the moment and probably won't see any more drastic changes.
What furry shit does smash have?
Starfox characters and Pokemon
*eats you and puts you in a bubble*
A lot of people play it, its just that not many buy it on steam
Yea Forums was telling me he was the worst character in the game back when people still played it here and he has gotten nothing but nerfs since then, was everyone here just shit or something?
>Yea Forums
>good at games
pick one
Its not so much a broken mechanic when you can only kill off of tippers
I think there was one point where he was really bad but that was ages ago. Yea Forums sucks ass at platform fighters, some of the worst smash players I've ever thought
*fought
fuck me
The lack of items is my biggest concern with games like RoA and Slap City. Without them is hard to play with my casual friends without crushing them for not being used to the games.
>tipper requires precise spacing, knowledge of your own reaches and move speed of both characters in order to pull off a high reward hit
>completely ignore all of that shit because the enemy literally gets frozen for a 100% free tip
durr
we need slap city and roe on switch, they would be perfect for a handheld
Y I F F E
I don't see how anyone could dismiss the game off of visuals alone. They are definitely not bad at all, especially the backgrounds/stages. And, if you've seen any of the random updates from the artist on the game, the stages and characters are only getting better looking with tons more visual clarity (though it's already very clear what's happening).
they kinda lose their Niche when you place them on the same platform as Smash, especially with Ultimate turning out good unlike the last two
>PC peasants have to subsist on low budget furshit
But pokemon sword and shield aren't on pc
If you cant do this in a Smash game its not worth playing
PC can emulate everything except ultimate
but it's fun
The only thing I know about this game is that there is a furry visual novel about it and only two girls are actually cute so its a hard yikes and pass for me.
How is the online? Ultimate's unplayable 1s of input delay online is too much.
the netcode is alot better but the online is completely dead if you arent in the Americas, not to mention the only people left are all harden vets at this point
>No Slap City on Switch
>No Rivals of Aether on Switch
>No Smash 64-4 Collection on Switch
Is it too much to ask to have all the fun platform fighters on one convenient for local multiplayer system?
Duck Game and Smash Ultimate are all I have right now. Lethal League Blaze is launching on Switch soon which is nice. But it's not enough damn it.
Also, is Brawlout any good? It seems like it's the only other platform fighter on Switch at the moment.
Dropped.
Probably this. When it came out there were a bunch of articles from people lamenting the fact that they weren't as good as they thought at "smash-likes", presumably from their experience playing casuals with their shitty friends in Smash 64/Melee or whatever, and that they kept getting washed online. It's very unforgiving compared to say, Brawlhalla, that gives you like 5 airdodges and lets you infinitely wall climb.
The skill floor is pretty high for what's considered a "party" genre. I've got 50 or so hours in it and I'm still only really comfortable playing Zetterburn, who's considered the "beginner" character.
If you're talking about Clarien they nerfed her pretty hard a long ass time ago. She's nowhere near broken anymore.
Is the Fox clone's shine as shitty and worthless as it feels or am I just trash?
I really wish most of the characters in this game weren't shitty pokemon rejects, the gameplay sounds great.
I am, and that's nice to hear, but I haven't played the game since like... Before Shovel Knight was added. I got him, messed around in the training mode a bit, then closed.
As others have mentioned, the sprite work isn't that great.
As rough as the models for Slap City are, the game manages to look a lot better.
Plus, Slap characters just feel more creative, I really wish Smash had a GoE equivalent.
It usually goes on sale pretty cheap, you should just pick it up some time. They'll probably grow on you as you play.
Funny this is that you can do this as Zetterburn in Rivals of Aether. He's literally Fox and Wolf combined.
It's an indie pixel game that costs 35 bucks, has a bunch of paid DLC, and sells itself exclusively to competitive smash players
You tell me
It requires skill and most gamers are shit?
>The game plus the DLC is 65 dollars
this, and nothing but this
isn't the game like £10.99
Went on sale for $7.50 in February.
I think it's neat, I like the Tron Bonne snake and the spritework is really good but the only time I can be assed with playing it is if someone brings a setup to locals (which isn't often).
It's good for a pretty fast spike but that's about it. I almost never use it but I'm pretty shit so you probably shouldn't listen to me.
It's $35 for all of the characters. The other dlc is just dumb meme recolors that aren't any good, especially considering that the game comes with a color editor already.
>especially considering that the game comes with a color editor already
why would they even bother with selling recolors then?
I don't like playing online. I don't mind losing against local players too much, but losing against online players makes makes me really salty because of the inherent soullessness of online, and winning rarely feels very good for the same reason. I can crush the CPUs to the point of completely plateauing but I can't even remotely compete with people online and have no one to play with locally. It's too bad because I like it a lot.
The recolors aren't pallet swaps, they have special textures and even come with special animations for specials and other flavour. I don't care for that stuff though, the color editor is enough.
its a competitive game with no appeal to casuals. only the hardcore players, ie almost nobody, will play it. its competitive scene is alive and well though and the game is mechanically and structurally better than any other platform fighter so itll be fine even if it stays niche, i mean its been 3 years and its only grown
They do more than just editing the base colors. Like giving the bird stars on his body and making one of his attacks become an american flag, or the polarbear whose ice becomes gold and gains sparkling effects.
I just wish it had better graphics. It can be hard to follow what’s happening
Once it gets a sequel, I’m fucking in
But that won’t change how it’s community is infested with degenerate scum sucking furries
Slap City tried to appeal to both an ended up only keeping the tourneyfags and to a lesser degree than rivals did
I wish people still played Slap Ball in matchmaking
I would happily play both on switch. Honestly, I just want them to port it to SOMETHING so I can actually play it locally with my friends without having to get crammed up next to my desk in the office where my PC is. Switch or PS4 would be fine. XBO as the only console option was fucking retarded because most XBO owners don't give a fuck and most of the people who do don't want an XBO because it has fucking nothing else of value on it to make the purchase worth it.
Melee > Slap City > Rivals > PM/P+ > Ultimate > 64 > 4 > Brawl
haven't seen this comic in a while
this game isn't infested with brs is it
you have to go back to plebbit
twitch.tv
tournament about to start btw
>ragtag indie team can balance a game better than full scale professional dev team
this, for all i know fucking Thems Fighting Herds might be the best most well balanced fighting game ever but sure as hell i'm not playing that pony shit
nah only americans play it, theres small scenes in england france and canada though
the difference is tfh was made by pony fetishists and roa was made by actual competitive players
