If I want to get into this series what should I start with?
I tried Warhammer 2 but I refunded it the second I saw that half the content was locked behind owning the first game. I really like the fantasy setting but no game is worth 120 dollars.
Where do I start? Is the new one good?
If I want to get into this series what should I start with?
the series peaked with shogun 2
So is that the one you would recommend?
Attila is a good one, but it's one of the hardest in the series. Cool factions and Horde gameplay.
Rome 2 is good NOW (not at release) It has a lot of factions and lots of different units.
Shogun 2 is good but the map is very boring and the unit rosters get repetitive quick. Fall of the Samurai is really fun though with 1800's tech like Gatling guns and Ironclads.
Three Kingdoms is the second best TW of A team (after medieval 2 but its really dated now)
For newcomer get Shogun 2 first and then get 3 kingdoms on sale. Never get CA game at full price near launch
Warhammer, fuck the rest and FUCK THE CHINKS.
>the map
yo theres only one?
Empire is niche, and bare-bones outside of battles and war.The muskets and cannons are fun but lead to repetitive fights of whoever gets shot the less wins stuff.
Napoleon is an improved Empire, but it is still just the muskets and cannons fuckery. This one has several different campaigns that are cool though; aswell as the WW1 mod which I recommend.
Get Medieval 2 for cheap or pirate it. Then go for the rest.
Is warhammer the only one with rpg mechanics?
Maybe my nostalgia is talking but I'd say Medieval 2.
Nah there are quite a few battle maps but only one campaign map of Japan.
Most of the Total War game's Battle maps are great, minus naval, but beach assaults are great fun.

Huh?
No, 3k has RPG mechanics too. Honestly, 3k is actually pretty good I'm being a faggot. Warhammer is fun and super casual and you will get into battles quickly.
Medieval 2 is timeless, it's still really fun today and the family tree stuff is silly but a neat feature.
The map has the new world across the ocean too so make sure you're the one to colonize america first.
1. Fall of the Samurai
2. Warhammer 2
3. Medieval 2
4. Rome
5. Napoleon
9000. the rest
9001. Thrones of Britannia
9002. Empire
9003. Shogun

ROME

WAR
Don’t add the barbarian invasion xpac until you’re akready bored of the base game
Just get Three Kingdoms. The most streamlined and casual of all the games.
Shogun 2 is the most polished, and the easiest with mechanics that are easy to understand, and armies that are the same basically. Then you try out it's expansion Fall of the Samurai, which has more line warfare.
Depending on which one you like more, you either go to heavily modded Empire/Napoleon for Line Warfare, or Rome 2, Attila, Medieval, etc. for the melee warfare. Three Kingdoms is probably the most complicated alongside Attila, but it is pretty fun and you can jump in if you feel like Shogun 2 is too simple.
>Ever playing vanilla Rome instead of playing the superior Roma Surrectum or Europa Barbarorum
would you say warhammer 2 is fucking 120 dollars good?
>120
what? both games have been on sale multiple times, could get both games together for 30 bucks easy.
Right now its 60 on steam
is there somewhere else I can get it for cheaper?
For me it's Fall of the Samurai, but as others have noted you will most likely have a preference for either musket lines (FotS, Empire, Napoleon) or more traditional spears vs cavalry vs swords (Rome 1 & 2, Attila, Shogun 1 & 2, Medieval 1 & 2). The nice thing with FotS is that you essentially get both experiences, as you can play with either the traditional Shogunate or the more modern Imperial factions (which represent the latter and former respectively). Either way I would suggest either Shogun 2 with the expansions or Rome 2/Attila depending on the era and gameplay of your preference. If you really aren't sure, then wait for FotS to go on sale because you'll be able to pick it up for like $5 and you can probably grab Shogun 2 while you're at it for the same price.
>Warhammer 2
wew
>liu bei run
>got to three kingdoms period
>one emperor at war with my 4 allies
>the other one is filled with my spies
if only the fantasy cucks can understand my benevolent
It's only worth it if you like the setting.
If you're not into fantasy settings or Warhammer in general then no.
>warhammer 2
it's not even worth it and also every dlc includes a new crashing bug, and also feels like a grinding mmo
I had a look on Kinguin and Warhammer 1 is just under $20 whilst Warhammer 2 is under $20 if you're in the EU (most likely an eastern european key) or just under $30 if you're not. Both games were substantially cheaper during the last sale though (about $10 and $15 respectively)
Just buy base game and cream it
Is it any good? I want to try it out, but I really liked Attila and it's challenge.
Is it like REALLY streamlined? Are there family politics and dynasty's?
I've been playing a shit ton of Medieval II lately with the stainless steel mod. Its definitely worth it.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Don't believe that user. It's nearly as complicated as Attila with actually competent AI on the worldmap. NPCs will actively form coalitions to fuck you up as you get more powerful. Diplomacy is much more useful and is now necessary to not get curbstomped to the ground by a faction with 12 vassals or a coalition of five factions who's sole purpose is to destroy you.
1 and 2 are both needed for mortal empires campaign.
