Melee is trash because Red hates meleefags with a passion and the only bone he ever threw them was making an entire category of "melee" weapons that are just ranged weapons with a shitty coat of paint. The entire game is built around NOT getting close to the big bad ugly thing trying to smear you across the plains like a penny on railroad tracks; melee spits in the face of that and gives you basically nothing to help offset this.

UFO mount is recommended. Be airborne the entire fight.
If you're soloing it, you can control Moonlord pretty reliably, just fly away from it horizontally the whole time and move vertically to dodge attacks.

Since you're using UFO mount, unequip mobility accessories like wings and boots in favour of increased damaged output or survivability. Just don't forget that fall damage is a thing when you remove wings.

Also if you aren't taking full advantage of the assortment of buff potions the game has that might be why you're having a hard time. No matter your loadout, regen + ironskin pots are always useful. Endurance and rage/wrath potions from fishing in underground and corruption/crimson are also super useful.

That layout suggests you're staying in one place.
Which means the Moon Lord will stay in one place and attack the nurse non-stop.

If you're doing expert mode. Rod of discord and a decent arena. If you don't want to farm for the rod make some roofs to block his lasers. platforms to run around and dodge the true eyes. going with an arena can be hard since the leeching affect always gets you so healing can be difficult. reforging all things to warding can let you get hit by an extra laser beam without dying as long as you have any of post moonlord armour.
