I was legit upset that Harry didn't end up with Luna and just went for the generic little sister (non blood related) weeb pick. Luna was weird and interesting and brightened up every scene she was in. Ginny was a doormat.

That's simply not true though. Hufflepuff's traits are loyalty and teamwork. Someone who isn't particularly extraordinary has an equal chance of getting into any of the four houses, based on which trait is the strongest. If bravery is your strongest trait it's Gryffindor, if ambition is your strongest trait you get Slytherin, if it's curiosity then you get Ravenclaw, and if it's loyalty, then you get Hufflepuff. This is why Neville, despite being a cowardly little fuck when he was first sorted, still got Gryffindor, he was still braver than he was ambitious, curious, or willing to work with others.
