Destiny 1 is still somehow the better and more fun game after all these years because Bungie backpedalled so fucking hard on so much evolution of content in D2
There are no more customizable skill classes, you only get a few options to make slight playstyle changes. Content's retarded, the first year DLC was bad for 2, every gun feels pretty same-y once you get into the endgame, and AI is so fucking braindead it's a downgrade from Halo AI, that would throw grenades back at you and flank you.
It is literally runescape-tier gameplay. You simply load in, do the exact same things you did yesterday, and then get off. There is no innovation, only repetition. There is no challenge, only following a checklist to beat the current raid. There is no fun after 400 hours, as you realized the last 150 were the same.
The environments were pretty. The game - at least, if it was free - would be worth 30-ish hours, and that's just vanilla.
It's a game where exploring the environment is fun as it's beautiful, but that's where the fun ends.

The end-game in D2 is farming the same content over and over for a good roll to kill people with headshots in PVP by aiming in their general direction. It's shit. Raiding isn't even rewarding at all. You get enhanced perks from other 3 player content.

It is 100% just a grind game. I tried playing it twice and I cant bring myself to do the main story. Everyone Ibtalk to unanimously says the story is shit and to just buy a boosted character (fuck that) and that the real fun in the game is raiding with others and getting rare loot.
Thats it. Its a shallow game with nothing to offer besides endless grind. They limit a lot of the grind so that you only have so many chances per week or per month to get a drop. Some drops are on a monthly or bi weekly cycle as well. Its a nightmare grind game held only by decent shooting.
Please for the love of god, do NOT buy this game.

As someone who bought it on release and reinstalled recently, no. It is exceedingly boring and generic. Bungie took everything unique about their concept and universe and squandered it. It is Shooter: The Game. What little bits of interesting content, lore, or gameplay value are there are few and stretched so far between it's not just shallow, it's a counter spill.
The ONLY value I can see in it, is if you get it so you have something absolutely braindead to play to help you unwind and fall asleep after work. Which is what I used it for.

The previous season was just copy/pasted Gambit maps with one long round sold as a new mode. Black Armory was just rehashed base game areas with a horde mode that you have to repeat one million times to get the weapons with the right roll. The whole game is a scam. Raiding doesn't even provide any rewards, since you get all the same perks from solo and 3 man content anyway.

It sets you up for the long grind. Its why you can buy short cuts with boosted characters and what not.

People who have over 2k hours, except one at 1300 hours, who swear loyalty to the game told me that. Litterally the best source for someone who was interested in the game at one point. Battle net gave me a free copy, I played the stoey a bit and it was terrible. Looked real pretty though. All flash no substance. I asked them does it get better and 1 told me to boost to end game, the other 3 said to just slog through it with a friend. They told me about what actual end game is like and it sounds god awful and not worth it. It is a grind game through and through. If you love grind, its a good game. If you dont, you wont like the game. Its as simple as that
