I'm going to give BG3 a fair chance. I don't like D:OS very much, but I'm hoping they realise BG needs to have a very different tone from those games and try to make a faithful sequel.

Why? It's a sequel to dead game old and venerable enough to have spawned several homages. Using the Baldur's Gate name at this point sounds more like looting a grave, than a serious attempt to make a worthy successor.
Faerûn was never a good setting.

If they want to continue on the BG brand, then they need to show something to be "optimistic" about, something that proves they understand what a sequel needs. though I do trust the makers of Divinity OS2 to do a decent job of making the gameplay fun.
D&D 5e relies a lot on the GM making stuff up, and I think Larian would know that, so they'll probably know what to patch up.
