Ubisoft must be laughing all the way to the bank. Except maybe when Epic's store allowed people to legally steal games from them because Epic's store had no way to verify that refunding on their store also made sure to lock out your game purchase from Uplay.

BL2 is fun to dick around in with a group of friends but BL3 just looks like it takes a step back in a lot of aspects.

Rule of thumb: if one of the only ways to advertise a game is "it's fun with friends!", that same statement applies to poking a dead fox with a stick, then said game is shit. If it can't stand on it's own and you need to call friends to help you trudge through it, don't fucking bother.
Devs should focus on crafting a good single-player experience first, and then think about the "with friends" part. Either that or just have the balls to advertise it as multiplayer.

Pirating epic exclusive games isn't wrong in any way, shape, or form because Epic essentially paid for your copy for you.

So basically, tens of thousands of people can pirate the game and it doesn't have any negative impact on the devs.

Epic's "exclusives" won't solve anything for a variety of reasons beyond mere piracy. The first is that they bought exclusivity from other people for fully complete games. Every sale they make on the EGS is counted against by the millions they poured into buying those. They don't see a cent of profit from those purchases until that's made up. Second is that they paid for timed exclusivity. There's a built in time limit for them to make profit on those games before people can just buy them elsewhere. The exclusivity deals are only worthwhile if they're profitable before they expire. Third is that unlike a console, exclusives have no real ability to push sales of other games. When you buy a PS4 for GoW or a Switch for BotW, you've made a big investment in hardware that makes it easier for you to justify buying more shit so it doesn't become a glorified paperweight. But on PC, you can buy exclusives on EGS and get their free games and then go buy everything else on Steam or GoG or Itch.io or even Origin in some cases. If you do this, you've basically never been a real, worthwhile customer to Epic because you've never actually bought a profitable item from them. They need people to buy the games they didn't just shell out millions to be on their store.

I don't know what exactly Epic was thinking, but it was probably some mixture of buying into the idea that running a multinational digital storefront is super easy and that if you can just get people to buy enough games, they're will be a similar justification to console purchases along the lines of "not wanting to lose your library by buying things elsewhere." The former is absolutely not true and the latter is tenuous. It's mostly a hypothesis people put out to explain Steam's continued domination of the PC market in terms besides "it's still the most attractive storefront for many customers old and new."

they thought that buying exclusivity to a few games would be enough to make people want to only use their platform. But considering they have yet to add even a fifth of the features Steam has had for a decade. Rather than spending all of the fortnite bucks they made from kids stealing mommy and daddy's credit cards on making a comparable platform, they just decided to throw money around to try and force consumers into using their platform. Something that very clearly isn't going to work at this rate, as I'm sure for these AAA games they're having to throw millions of dollars at them for exclusivity, or easily 150k+ copies of the game they're trying to get the deal with.

PR is about taking advantage of people's ignorance and laziness when dealing with statistics and other facts being spit out by corporations.
Truth is, the investors firm that handle's THQ's finances reported success on consoles, while being quiet about PC sales. Then they worded it carefully so it wouldn't come off as a failure. If you are handling people's investments, the LAST thing you want is something to sound like a failure. In the end, PC sales were strong "early in the year" i.e. when the game was on Steam and the Epic deal cause a surge in sales before it was removed form the Store.
Epic did nothing for the game on PC, but Swine will never admit it or even suggest it.
