You people keep laughing at Stadia, but you fail to realize that this where everything is going. Sony, MS, and maybe even Nintendo are going streaming only soon. You won't have physical copies of games anymore. That's their dream. They want to keep you tethered to their ecosystem rather than buying a game once every few months.
You people keep laughing at Stadia, but you fail to realize that this where everything is going. Sony, MS...
That's because I'm making back ups of every DRM-free game I have.
I laugh because I remember OnLive's failure to to the exact same thing.
We're inching ever closer to an inescapable hell and we are, at best, screaming and kicking in a padded cell in deep space. There's literally nothing any of us can do short of insane, coordinated group efforts, and that would only provide minimal effects at best. The world's too big now for anyone to really rise up.
We are strapped in firmly to this ride and there is no way off it. Mr. Bones has become an allegory for reality.
So everything is going towards killing games, got it.
And then we see the boom of independent developers who will make their own physical media to cater to the vacuum that the others have left in their wake. The big boys can shoot themselves in the foot for all I care. My backlog will last until the end of time anyway.
Oh well, in a few decades you’re gonna have to fend off hordes of third worlders who are trying to kill you for vaguely clean water. Not having a physical copy of a game will be the least of your worries
There were still other choices when OnLive was around. When everything is streaming only, you're fucked. Don't think Steam and others aren't thinking about this as well. The problem is exacerbated when the normies who think input lag is acceptable rule the world. Better back up your games now.
Time to invest in subs.
>Nintendo going streaming
Cant wait for the disaster
100% agreed.
the majority of people are too retard or naive to get it, they only think "oh BOI I will have a huge library of games for 10$ monthly" they dont get the service will soon rice in price, they will own nothing and at the moment you don't pay your subscription you lost access to all ""your"" games
I already have more games than Ill ever play
Let it end Im ok with it
I highly doubt Nintendo will do that, if only because they love adding new features to their console each generation.
Shit's fucked though, you're right
Doesn't matter. When it's all you have, that's it.
>forcing over 70% of the gaming market to suddenly give a shit and upgrade their internet to fiber optics
>most don't even live near a provider with fiber optics
>third-world Canadians are doomed to only being able to play for 4 hours before their monthly data cap hits
This shit just isn't feasible in [current year] and will be met with resounding failure.
I'd like to believe you, but the average person has shit standards.
open a history book, Nintendo will be the last one to do it like DLC or paid online but don't have doubts about that, soon or after this industry will became a virtual renting Blockbuster and in order to acces to the games you will need to pay a monthly subscription, gaming will be chronic like a cancer treatment, you will pay for the remedy once but for your monthly dose
There will always be indie games and as technology gets better people will be able to make really impressive stuff by themselves, no bitchy artists required
This will make the value of games drop and the allure of having these subscriptions also drop
>There will always be indie games
when the only visible channels for game selling will be the big ones the indies will have no option that put their creations in those platforms, they will make the ecosystem that way or you will lost exposure of your product, have no doubt, they will push to force indies to be part of that
Exactly.
>the indies will have no option that put their creations in those platforms
Nah we already have subscribestar for them to get money and they can just release the games for free if needed.
People that want something different will find it, that has always been the case
(them) owning TV didnt stop people from going somewhere else
Its a cycle, the eternal chase
He is totally wrong but I guess its cool to be defeatists
I don't think you realize how bad things are getting. In 10 years, you will only have streaming. That's it.
