Was Grand Theft Auto V a good game?
Was Grand Theft Auto V a good game?
Yes, it was.
Kinda bland and restrictive but yeah, I suppose it's alright.
if we lived in an universe where san andreas, vice city stories and iv didn't exist - sure
but wait
it's a technical marvel with a really shitty game attached. mechanically it's actual garbage but there's so much garbage presented so beautifully that it makes for a fun toybox until the wow factor wears off.
even with mods, it's fucking boring. it may as well be linear for how fucking empty and lifeless the world is.
you'd think that for a game where you spend half your time shooting that the guns would feel good, sound good, and be satisfying to use. they're not, they're by far the worst shooting mechanics of any rockstar game including the 3D era jank. at least those games had some interesting weapons to mix things up.
max payne 3 raised my expectations for this game so much, only to drop so hard once it actually hit
lmao fuck off, the shooting is miles better than in 4/vc/sa
guns felt weak as hell, man. plus, the cool ragdoll bullet reactions from 4/mp3 turned into ubisoft-tier dolls
I liked it when I played it on PS3.
Framerate was such fucking ass tho.
worst game in the series. search your heart you know its true
it's was ok, nothing memorable
I personally felt like the 3 character gimmick hurt the story. In the beginning, the character development is great. But, once all 3 characters come together, the development stops. Except for Michael. Franklin gets a little bit, but for the most part it stops and becomes all about heists.
With VI I'm hoping they return to a single protag focus.
I'm also interested to see how they'll portray Miami, seeing as how I live in this rich disaster of a shitheap.
Yes but it didn't live up to the hype (especially Online).
Still a fun game but I feel like it could have had its potential reached if they released that single player DLC.
>even with mods, it's fucking boring
LSPDFR is the fucking shit, bro
no
>dude lets just rip off HEAT without any of the interesting dynamics or elements that made it kino lmao
>lived long enough to see people realising all this
the best timeline
Should def put hialeah and brickell in the new GTA game
Online was a big disappointment. At launch, the Online was an absolute unfun grief-filled mess.
It still sucks now, but at launch it sucked even more. I am impressed they're still drawing it out and launching new content for it though.
With RDR2, I'm kind of glad they toned it the fuck down. I really wish Rockstar would bring the primary focus back to SP with their games.
Yes. Infinitely better than IV, but the starry-eyed 12 year old virgins who loved that game are now jaded 20-something virgins who hated this one.
The only thing it has over RDR2 is there is actually things to spend your heist money on. That’s about it.
The gunplay felt smoother, but it came at the cost of dynamic ragdoll physics and pitiful sounding weapons. Not a good trade off.
No.
Shit map
Shit characters
Shit story
Worse gameplay than 4
>has flyable planes while IV had no planes at all
>has full vehicle customisation while IV only had neon lights
>weapon customisation
>shit ton of minigames and activities
>colorful graphics
>mods like NaturalVision and LSPDFR make it even better
>has servers like GTA World on multiplayer clients
How is it NOT the best GTA?
>iv
It was fun but it had an absolutely terrible reward system. You never felt like you had a real reason to do anything.
mediocre at best
not even best GTA
no, it's shit.
>shit ton of minigames and activities
user i am truly sorry for interrupting your list halfway through but did we play the same fucking game??
RDR2 showed that Rockstar can still do single protag stories amazingly well, so I'm hoping they come to their senses with GTA VI.
That's every GTA game.
>thread gives me the itch to install the game and drive around for a few hours
>remember that I bought the physical version
>can't find the case
>dvd drive isn't even connected
physical media was a mistake
oh damn, sorry
*IV+EFLC
there we go
Based Niko, I really did have more fun with IV in the long run, ended up playing through the story like 4 or 5 times (not including DLC) whereas I only played through V's story twice (the second being to test out the next gen version's capabilities).
I feel like they did a great job making Liberty City feel like a real rendition of NYC, just makes me wish they'd release another GTA already.
Places I expect they'll add:
>Ft. Lauderdale, Downtown + Residential (Las Olas + Beach)
>Pembroke Pines / Weston for the spaced out wealthy mansions and private estates
>Aventura for the luxury shopping areas and private beach hotels
>Wynwood for the hipster spots / party bars / art district shit
>Downtown Miami obviously
>Miami Beach obviously
>Star Island obviously
>Probably Dural for the industrial area
>Hialeah / Miami Lakes for the ghetto / residential spots near Miami / Downtown Miami
>Little Havana and Opa Locka for the Cuban / Haitian territories
>Coral Gables / Coconut Grove for rich University areas (University of Miami)
>Homestead I guess for empty nothingness
Throw in some Everglades in the NW to include some swamps too I suppose.
Honorable mentions:
>Coral Springs (too similar to Ft. Lauderdale)
>Hollywood (like a slightly more ghetto Ft. Lauderdale full of cell towers and roundabouts
>Davie (would probably appear as a minor spot if they include the Weston and Southwest Ranches area)
>Pompano Beach (ghetto beach area, but that living class could be covered with Hollywood / Hialeah)
>tfw they added poker to RDR Online recently but nobody gives a fuck since everyone jumped ship
As soon as Online turned out to be another GTAO grindfest I knew there wasn't any fun to be had like RDR1. Damn shame too since all my friends bought it on PS4 to play together.
>yfw after 6 years they’re finally gonna open the casino
I stopped caring about GTAV in 2015 when I realized no new SP content was coming, even after the PC release.
Only 12 year olds think V is "infinitely better" than IV.
It has less activities and minigames than IV, what are you smoking?
>praising a game for mods that have nothing to do with the released title
Rockstar focused on setpieces for the story missions rather than having an interactive and fun open world.
Again.
>IVtards still exist
The online is awful skinner box bullshit worse than any aRPG that's ever existed.
No idea how anyone plays it.
Man that'd be cool to have Vice City revamped to having all of Florida intertwined near it, I'd like to see them add a whole theme park too ala Disneyworld and Universal Studios.
>releasing the one fucking update everyone wanted nearly 6 years after the fact when most players have already left (especially after releasing those retarded flying bikes)
How can one company be so fucking tone deaf?
I enjoy playing online from time to time in private sessions
I like to grind to buy things and sometimes shoot things
I actually like the business and shit but I hate the rest of the people playing and the obligatory coop missions
tl;dr I play GTA Online but only as a single player game
41%
I definitely enjoyed driving really fast in not LA at night in a tricked out car listening to Kendrick Lamar.
If you were anything other than an eternal zoomer you'd know IV was a massive disappointment which removed a ton of content from the series and added naught but grey and bloom.
I liked it and had fun with it for plenty of years so yea it's good. Doesn't matter if some stuff about it was shit, if it was fun and kept me entertained for years then it's a good game to me.
IV was a technological leap for the series, no way they could make a better game than san andreas at the time so they did the right choice of reimagining gta in a more realistic way
then v tried to be san andreas 2 and failed so hard
It was better than GTA IV.
GTAV is the best game for comfy driving across a region. Prove me wrong.
Yeah. I don't like it that much, but it's a well made game.
No
I can think at least 5 games that did that aspect better
>>releasing the one fucking update everyone wanted nearly 6 years after the fact when most players have already left (especially after releasing those retarded flying bikes)
How can one company be so fucking tone deaf?
GTA Online peaked concurrent players when Doomsday update released, which was one year ago. It's not dead.
Name them then.
i'd like to correct user with "most players with common sense have already left" then
Yes. Not the best GTA but it's good.
The GTA Online playerbase is 11 year old niggers.
nope. they focused too much on online multiplayer part of GTA 5 because it generated huge amount of fucking money for them on not doing any single player DLC for Grand theft Auto V SP campaign because surely the story is not finish yet. hell, even some of the online content component were rehash from actual DLCs which is sad. GTA 5 is like a few step forward but huge backwards in any direction given..
>planes
they handle like absolute dogshit in GTA, and they are slow as fuck, like you can go at 20mph without falling
>IV was a technological leap for the series
No shit, it was on a different console generation.
>no way they could make a better game than san andreas at the time so
Why the fuck not? And why not even appear to try?
They could have made a better game than San Andreas, but instead we got a boring city, noplanes, barely any guns and bowling. IV is easily the worst game in the series in pretty much every aspect other than physics.
Forza Horizon
The Crew
Test Drive Unlimited
Euro Truck 2
Cars The Video Game
The Crew could be my ultimate road trip game if only the areas aren't copypasted that much
you can call it a boring city, but for rockstar standards up to that point, it was the highest quality map they delivered. every area feels different, and uniquely detailed. i like to think of it as a very elaborate tech demo of the RAGE engine.
>noplanes
that didnt ruin gta 3, plus there were various helicopters anyway. it'd make no sense for niko to fly around in a hydra.
>weapon customisation
I'm not a big fan of this, I liked it better when weapons were just pickups spread all over the map, that also made exploration more interesting, now you buy a gun and it stays in your inventory forever
based loliposter
I'd fucking love that, especially as a resident there. Downside is, it'd be really flat. We don't have anything geographically cool here except for the everglades and the ocean :/
I wouldnt be surprised if the next protag was cuban. I've only met a handful of white people being here lol
What he meant that Rockstar could just make SA HD with more content, but instead they picked the more experimental route that technologically impressive
I have to agree. I still believe that IV's LC is the best city they have made yet, and much better than LS. It's a shame that they did nothing much to do with it. Makes it a glorified city walking simulator.
>it was the highest quality map they delivered. every area feels different, and uniquely detailed.
That's the opposite of what it was. A handful of memorable areas in a huge map of bland brown and grey repetition. It feels like something out of a Ubisoft game.
Even GTAIII had a plane. iirc it would have been more functional if not for 9/11.
>Downside is, it'd be really flat.
That's what I hate about VC's map
No but the map could have been alot better, its so stale now I can barely play it for 5 mins.
The really need to get 6 out but its too easy to churn out cars and businesses for shark card sales
the gta 4 is "bland brown and grey" meme is so out of date. it's not a colorful shiny game like vice city and san andreas were, it tackled some pretty heavy subjects compared to the III era. rockstar wanted to try something they didn't before, even Liberty City Stories was way too colorful for a mafia game.
yeah, gta 3 had a dodo plane but rockstar themselves answered in a newswire post back in 2011 that it was never meant to be controllable, kinda like they just put it there to make it more convincing it's an airport (plus some missions involved npcs controlling them)
most 9/11 theories were bullshit according to their 2011 GTA 3 10th faqs too, they only had to tone down some pedestrian commentary and a few other things.
VC's greatest map flaw isn't how flat it is.
It's the fuck-massive distance of sand they slapped down between the hotels and ocean out on the beaches. It's almost an in-game mile, and it's ridiculous. It's the biggest waste of space on the map.
In reality, you have maybe 100-150 meters of sand between the roads and ocean, and that's considering Ft Lauderdale, Hollywood, Sunny Isles, and Miami beaches.
Like many devs, they most likely laid out extensive content road maps for Online, none of which included the Casino until said road maps ran up and the devs had time to work on extraneous shit.
All the theme parks are north towards Orlando and Tampa.
I suppose they could include something similar though. We used to have Boomers in Dania between Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale, but it's since been wiped out and is having a shopping center laid over it.
I hate VC simply for one reason: no trains
I don't know but if it is in general but I know that I personally like it. I like the story, I like the gameplay, and I just like all the side activities that go along with it. The tech is great, it's addictive, and it keeps up the momentum for most of the story. Minus the heist setup missions that could be ejected.
Also I didn't play multiplayer so I can't say anything about that.
It was heinously overrated due to the brand and developer. It was okay but I'd rather play SR2.
The heist setups are the best type of missions tho. Excluding the "Trevor pretending to be a dock worker to move containers" mission.
GTAVI should have something similar to the Tri-Rail and Miami Metro that stops intersection traffic every 15 fucking minutes, gridlocking highway exits. Just like real fucking life.
God, fuck the Tri-Rail. Every fucking morning.
Still waiting for the stock market to open
I'd prefer Bully 2 before another GTA.
>tfw R* sold the stock market and Heists as launch features for GTA Online
It's okay. Not nearly as impressive as some of the earlier ones were at release, and certainly not great, but not bad either.
A competently made product, that most likely met the expectations the company placed on it.
>that most likely met the expectations the company placed on it.
I still can't believe that it sold about 110 million copies
Yeah. It was. And now I can't fucking play it because rockstar's shitty launcher fails to connect to the shitty rockstar's servers.
No, it has the worst controls of any open world game i've played in a decade
Reminds me of the issues with Rockstar's Social Club launcher for Max Payne 3
>try to play
>get to main menu
>hit enter
>game infinitely attempts to either load into the SC, or can't load in at all, resulting in being unable to play the game
>trouble shooting yields no solutions
>have to uninstall, purge remaining game files, reinstall, and hope it worked
>sometimes it does, other times it doesn't
>sometimes when it does work, it suddenly won't a few days later
>repeat
It was such a frustrating gamble.
Max Payne 3 was fun as fuck. I just wish the MP survived a bit better. The Map DLC segmented the community and effectively killed it. After that, it was nothing but hackers and BRs.
>tfw GTA IV doesn't even launch for me now on steam because Rockstar managed to fuck up removing their own DRM
No, it's a soulless cashgrab and zoomers fell for it.
I think so. Definitely enjoy it more than GTAIV. Only recently found out that if you go into Los Santos during Mike and Trevor's exile the game throws mooks at you forever. It's too fun getting them and the Ballas to kill each other.
>play san andreas
>can easily remember streets and general map after the first few missions, almost no need to look at the minimap
>play GTAV
>an easily remember streets and general map after the first few missions, only look at minimap for final directions and exact destination once im already close
>play GTAIV
>can't remember shit even after playing for hours, always have to look at the minimap and have to set waypoints or I get lost
is it just me?
if not, what the heck is going on, why does this happen?
Because New York
Liberty City is a dung colored shithhill that your brain purposefully wanted to forget. Why would you torture yourself by going back to it?
