In the past maybe, but everything that Sakurai has said about why Could got in leads me to believe that this is no longer the case. Make Duane & Brand0's FF1 rap go super viral and get people Googling Erdrick en masse and you're got yourself a strong maybe.
Fun thing about Puyo Puyo: Aside from the weirder spin-offs, every game in the series is playable on Nintendo hardware, with the 25th anniversary game, Chronicles, being a 3DS exclusive.

To be honest I really can't think of a 5th character I can see coming, I guess maybe if they actually decide to do a Western chracter they'll add Steve or Banjo depending on whether they want to appease zoomers or boomers. But in this yeah, its closer to popularity, though there are always outside factors than can skew a poll, like participants being able to vote multiple times, or a mysterious 3rd party flooding the polls with opinions they dont really believe in for shits and giggles.
Nothing will accurately measure something as volatile and subjective as "popularity" with 100% accuracy, but some sources are more reliable than others, and i feel using something that is actually measuring the proper thing in question is a pretty good start (like who do you like THE BEST, or who do you want THE MOST in this good thing) rather than something correlated, but not the actual subject matter like "who is being talked about the most".

Because you don't want to acknowledge the fact that the set you can get is his, you just want to point to other characters wearing similar armor and act like it's relevant. At that, you can at least name those other characters. Let's not forget that the whole point of this is that the CU is an ultra basic bitch who couldn't be properly represented in a fighting game largely because they're undefined. You can name the character the EK set you get belongs to, you can name 2 other characters who wear similar armor, so what's the CU's name? Where are they from? What gender are they? What weapons do they use? What magic do they know? Do they link the Flame or not? Of course I guess the last one is a moot point since their destiny is predetermined and they necessarily do.

CU is primarily a sword and shield user in promotional material, which IMO Smash could use more of since the only shield users are the Links who only utilize it in their idles, but even with the weapon pool narrowed there's still a ton of items and magic they have at their disposal, along with potentially having a stamina bar gimmick.
