Its been said 7 billion times already, but Gamestop isnt the only place selling Physical games, and the more the general US populace realizes that, the worse gamestop gets.
They cant exactly stop it, either, the more sales they lose, the more they have to push their shitty memberships and the more they have to push you to buy the newest releaes and harass you in the store, which is exactly why people dont want to go there.
Like any other business in the gaming industry, ignoring the Nintendo fanbase has pretty much killed them. I and pretty much everyone I know stopped going in once they started getting rid of Gamecube games, and in the Wii era they did everything they could to try and steer you away from the Wii and its superior titles to try and get you excited for Unchrated II and Bioshock.
While that may be true, it has been a long time coming for Gamestop. This is all the walls closing in, not just one issue.
BTW, Psychical copies for God of War, Resident Evil 2, Days Gone, Red Dead Redemption 2. ect and thew the fucking roof. They may not be the "norm", but some games are moving insane amounts of units still

Closing stores would help. They really don't need multiple stores in a single city center. Having said that, who are they actually going to sell the spaces to? Brick and mortar stores are all dying. They'll have trouble off-loading that much floor space.
