Tightly balanced combat.

Level design

Which first game?

>Tightly balanced combat
Izuna Drop. Repeat. Izuna Drop. Repeat.
That's all you do.

difficulty that didn't insult the intelligence of the player and had a sense of actual skill progression that rewarded practice and mastery.

Nothing. It was actually a pretty bad game.

World was connected. As soon as you get off the airship you're basically traversing a town. Soundtrack was top notch, especially the airship, mini-bosses and final boss.
The combat had a flow to it. Every successful kill allowed you to perform stronger combos. Plus it was nice seeing you destroy people with the flail. No bullshit "spam [this attack]" to get through the game because enemies weren't that bad to handle.
Puzzles were nice and the setting had originality.
The futuristic ninja costume afterward

Only down side being the camera sometimes but I haven't died to it.

are we talking about the NES game? because most of the zoomers in this thread don't seem to be.

You mean the 3d game or the arcade one?

*Flying Swallow.

lmaoing@boomers in this thread who think anyone cares about 2d ninja gaiden

>The combat had a flow to it. Every successful kill allowed you to perform stronger combos.
this is a good point I've never heard before

>izuna dropping bosses
>making time bonusses
>izuna dropping big enemies like the dragonlings

>not playing past hard where there are enemies that are hardcoded to counter flying swallow

multiple enemies in each encounter that did not wait to attack in turn. First level is like a knifefight in a closet and it never backs down

>arcade
An unpolished beat em up that loosely resembles ninja-ing

>NES
Peak ninja-ing with precision jumping and quick enemy killing but some unforgiving level design which makes it hard to traverse even with memory of particular enemy spawns

>XBox
Combines arcade's beat em up with the smooth mobility of NES for some really fun ninja-ing but some might not like the emphasis on combat over platforming.

ur mom tbqh

>Soundtrack was top notch, especially the airship
the airships non-combat soundtrack was grating.

Complexity through Simplicity because of Stupidity

Combat balanced fluidity and commitment with enemies that always threaten you but never feel unfair, and all ranged options being resources so you have to go in eventually. Never felt a game like it before. Just played it for the first time via Sigma. The Level design is also far and away above other action games of its kind for being interconnected and having creative use of your wall running while being full of variety. Also none of the bosses are bad (besides the helicopter) and they're all distinct, even if none are standout amazing besides maybe Doku 2.

Flail, Lunar, and Dabilahro are the best weapons.

Attached: 1553528817935.jpg (486x457, 65K)

>even if none are standout amazing
alma and awakened alma were kino, both the cutscene before you fight em, and the fight itself. When I had to fight alma again, i could feel my nutsack tighten in fear.

By that metric, yeah. Maybe I'm a casual but I can almost never pick up on Alma's tells or openings.

normal alma is pretty simple. She has clear sound cues for her fireball and pillar throw. When she floats towards you she tries to levitate grab you, when shes on the ground she has a grab and a simple combo attack. Just get close to her, roll if you see her move, adn then attack her. Flying swallow can always knock her down.

Awakened is a bitch, if she lands charge up an ET, and tehn flying swallow her to knock her down

How the fuck do I pull off the instant UT charge?

You absorb yellow essence from dying enemies. Your manually charged heavy attacks drop that specifically when they kill an enemy, and then when you next charge you'll start at a higher level. Also if you hold heavy just as you land from a jump you instantly begin charging with no startup.

if you hit Y as soon as your feet touch hte ground you instantly draw essence towards you. Yellow essence gives you blue charge, 2 yellow essence, 1 blue/red essence gives you full charge

Fast paced sidescrolling gameplay with a high learning curve. Unlimited lives let you learn how to improve your performance without getting cucked by a game over.....most of the time. Oh, and it had god tier cutscenes for its time and they still hold up pretty well today.

It's a damn shame the best NG game doesn't show up on anyone's action game tier lists too.

Attached: ninja-gaiden-nes.gif (387x267, 34K)

Maybe if the US version wasn't so bullshit unfair.

>unfair

Git Gud, shitter. The game is easy.

Hub world
excellent combat
amazing graphics
challenging, but fair difficulty

I'm not doing the entire last three levels over and over again just because you can't practice the final boss

The combat is just very tight with amazing movement especially for the time. The AI is also excellent and still ahead of modern action games.

>M-Muh final boss

You mean the three phases of a boss shitting himself? 6-2 is the real hump.

Did you skip the first half of my post? Try reading it again

Action and Action-Platformer generally get considered separately. Different design principles and in many ways skill sets. The main game that gets considered in both is Viewtiful Joe.

My point is you're never really in any danger during all three phases if you have any platforming skill. You shouldn't be dying in the first place.

>not having played 2d ninja gaiden

they are fun, you should try them out senpai.

you have a weird concept of first
also lmaoing at wannabe boomers talking about NES

Attached: ryu_jump.png (825x464, 671K)

Never played the arcade game. What makes it stand out among beat em ups?

Nothing. It was actually pretty bad.

Good to know I guess. Been meaning to go back to NES and play its sequels during the Summer since I'll be emulating a lot.

I feel it really makes the player learn it's available tools and adapt to the new and oncoming enemies that start appearing, at least on hard difficulty onwards. Also all the movement options are really great, I can't stand movement on other action games like bayonetta or dmc, also the no lock on is a plus for me.

Interactive environment, forced scrolling and a somewhat unique moveset for the time but yeah it's garbage. AvP using Lynn has more of a ninja feel than this game.

>Ninja Gaiden NES
>wannabe boomer

Pretty much all of core NG is boomercore at this point.

Play NG3 then, it's completely fair in every way, even removes respawning enemies while being harder than 1.

Yaiba is the sole exception. Fuck Inafune.

The only thing NG1 does objectively better than the rest of the series is having properly balanced difficulty settings and gated content spread through out them. This not counting the first level on Master Ninja which is absolute bullshit.

It doesn't do anything objectively worse either, it has less mechanics than the sequels but that's to be expected.

Attached: 1543513662285.png (1920x1080, 2.59M)

Is it on switch yet?

except it's a bad point. Instant UT is overpowered if you want to abuse it.

Please keep that weebshit filth out of a perfectly good Ninja Gaiden thread

I think the first is in the online lineup but I might be wrong.

They should just make a big NG collection with the NES and modern trilogies. Let you toggle OG/Sigma content and features on and off too.

Let me play Black but with midair now firing and the New Game+ feature that only the first Xbox release had fit singe reason, but then let me go back and play Rachel's chapters if I want to.

Plenty of enemies are capable of bullshit in NG1. It's part of what gives the AI it's edge. You can acknowledge it and say it's good game design and i would agree but i wouldn't champion it as "fair".

Attached: WOOOOOOOOOOOW.webm (720x480, 2.72M)

You bet your ass it is

the special version puts you right at the final boss so you can finally learn his patterns for the real run

The only people who care about fairness are people who do one playthrough of games and drop them forever desu, otherwise who gives a fuck.

>Keep your weeb Ninja Gaiden characters from my weeb action game Ninja Gaiden thread

Anyone that comes on Yea Forums to complain about "weebs" is an underage trying to fit in with literal ironic posting

>a demon playing Devil May Cry
what's wrong with this?

It's not like NG enemies ever break the rules set by the game but some of the rules are set clearly in their favor which doesn't happen often in games.

what?

Weebs are a blight upon any society. Take your softcore porn and fuck off.

fuck off schizo, stop shitting up threads with your autism

Dilate

I just remember one little detail that NG1 does better.

Enemies with guns and rocket launchers actually have to physically reload their weapons before they can fire again. It's a really nice mechanic and use of visual and audio cues. Enemies in the sequels fire at set intervals instead with no reload animation, and if they feel like being faggots they can forego said intervals.

NGB > 2

Awakened Alma is a bullshit boss. Regular Alma is fine unless it's an extra mission and she has ads.

>Regular Alma is fine unless it's an extra mission and she has ads.
user, did you not play beyond normal difficulty?

user did you not play any of the extra missions? Because if you did you would know that there is a very significant difference in how ads are treated between the main game and missions.

Every single NG game should have had something like Eternal Legend

HP1 and HP2 were the best DLC ever made.

Attached: ninja-gaiden.gif (90x135, 1K)

NG2 embarrasses it in all aspects

Tight controls, satisfying platforming, challenging level design, great music, and the groundbreaking cutscenes.

Attached: 14933-ninja-gaiden-nes-front-cover.jpg (800x1141, 465K)

I recently finished the game (Sigma). It's a solid action game, although I think people who call it a good ninja game are exaggerating. You barely feel like ninja, you just feel like some dude with a bunch of weapons. I also think it's funny that the game has every vidya cliche you can think of-- Water levels, sewer levels, bats as enemies etc.

Rachel was the single worst thing about the game though. It's not just her levels that are bad, but also the fact that her design looks like shit and she only exists to be fapbait. You could cut her from the game entirely and nothing would change.

its an action-adventure game that has very varied areas for a ninja themed game and bizarrely deep fighting mechanics. weapons have huge movesets and the base gameplay almost has a competitive feel.

The camera was fucking awful and more often than not I had to fight it more than the enemies in the game

Disliking Rachel is the biggest pleb/shitter give away in the series.

Sigma fixed the camera controls and evne then i played a lot of action games with worse cameras than Black.

I don't know why people think Alma was a good fight. Pathetically simple pattern and landing hits is based on RNG. Goes for many other enemies too. Actually all bosses sucked and it boils down to repeating a tiresome one-two pattern until it dies. Bonus points for cheap unreactable grabs if you dare try anything different

Good game but filled with shit tier bosses.

DMCfags have no concept of subtlety

rachel exists solely for that one slime scene
not sure why sigma forced her to be playable in the main campaign

Attached: rachel slime.png (500x333, 174K)

Rachel wasn't playable in Black, so you're mostly correct. I feel like the devs just wanted to give her a little more of a role than Alma's sister whose hammer you take.

Her design and run cycle are laughable but I like her moveset more than the one Ryu gets with the hammer. She's more grab focused to make up for less wall mobility. I like the shuffle over enemies for positioning and the decapitation you can do out of it.

Not him but rent free, Fiend Murai is actual garbage tho. NG2 fights were much better

>forced

Because she is one of the most fun characters to play as in any action game and she seemed like she did fuck in Black besides show up to be in distress.

I like Rachel gameplay, especially since I like heavy weapons in action games, but that's a bold claim.

she's the ryu hammer moveset but worse

I'm not sure either. When I played it I initially hoped she'd be like Trish or Lady from DMC and that they'd do something interesting with her, but she just exists to get her ass kicked at several points. She makes a pretty shitty damsel in distress too since Ryu clearly doesn't give a shit about her. At least we got a Gamov fight out of her (although I wanted to fight him as Ryu).

Also, I have no idea why people say that the Alma fights are hard. The Tanks gave me more trouble than Alma ever did. I beat Awakened Alma first try.

rachel was weird. shes designed like a femme fatale. You were supposed to be worried about if she was an ally or enemy, but then she just became a damsel in distress.

>rachel levels
we told you to play black

also I think the original design mightve been more stealth focussed. Like the bow was a line about how its silent. and hte first 4 levels have in infiltrate places.

if you think flying swallow was the only way to open her up you havent fought her enough

That's the problem with NG. It has literally nothing in terms of the actual world. At least waifunigs and Yuri fags can felate bayo's "lore" where as in NG Ryu is cool but he's surrounded by literal who nothing characters

Literally outplayed

>we told you to play Black
I don't have an Xbox. The one good thing about Rachel's levels is that they were short though, so it didn't drag things down too much.

I'm not surprised that Rachel was a bad character since NG is made by the DOA team. Dogshit female characters are kind of their staple.

Ryu with the Hammer is super barebones. It's one of his most basic weapons along with the nunchaku. Rachel has full strings with it while Ryu doesn't.

It's entirely subjective but for me it's not bold at all. She is 100% integrated into the game and it's mechanics, she offers a different approach to gameplay than Ryu while still a adhering to the basics and she is fun, that's all the basics of how to make an extra character work in an action game done. Aside from that her playstyle is novelty in the genre in my opinion since there's not many grappler centered characters if at all, she provides something the game lacked in a heavy weapon with an actual moveset worthy of note, visual and audio feedback are on point, animations are on point even the big Bertha on heels running, and finally she cute.

If they hadn't gotten rid of all her cool grabs in Sigma 2 for no fucking reason I'd say that hypothetical version of her wouldn't even subjective. Rachel in Sigma 1 is one of my top 5 movesets in the entire series, easily. I wish there was chapter challenge to play as her through the entire game.

>Also, I have no idea why people say that the Alma fights are hard. The Tanks gave me more trouble than Alma ever did. I beat Awakened Alma first try.
alma 1 is more of a wakeup call like mirai 1 to punish new players who were mashing the attack button every room and turning their brain off.

on later difficulties her ads make it a real fight. basically working around them while dodging pillars/fireballs, while alma tries to randomly land her throw that tracks.
in black it almost feels like it tracks further

wrong ayane butt

How did Ninja Gaiden turn out so good? It feels like the combination of Team Ninja and oatmeal cookie made it good purely by chance

>Most enemies non human cannot be ID'd
>Most enemies above normal mode will block flying swallow which has to be spaced unlike NG2 anyways

Even NGB letting people ET/UT without yellow in the beginning isn't abusable. Its always cute when people who never played the games who played on normal spammed items to barely make it through think they can speak on it. NGB is a amazing game the best in the genre easily because of Ryu clone and normal enemy quality. Bosses are good but not as memorable as DMC ones because some of them are good but flat out just a basic thing. NG2 was rushed but still better then its bastardized nerfed version and felt liked Itagaki was trying to give use the opposite of 1's super defensive style instead a very aggressive one. 2 ironically being worse has far more memorable bosses/locations but no level design to speak of and normal enemies that can be ID/FS spammed to death a lot of the time because of the lack of distance specification and how almost none of them blocked even on MNM.

Because not only is it common knowledge, someone was autistic enough to make a weapon damage chart about it

Another thing id add to this post is NGB is probably the best game with adds for its boss fights. They appear consistently at their 25% marks are almost always a type of enemy that either doesn't ruin a fight or is very bearable and sometimes their addition from dropping blue/red essence actually makes the fight flow better. NG2 adds in some boss fights were sort of assey especially summonable ones like how Zed would multi summon scorpions in some cases.

I think her run cycle is silly as hell but otherwise I can respect your opinion. I'm the guy that constantly defends 4SE Trish (and Super Corrupt Vergil just for infinite Nelo Angelo mode) so I've been in your position.

Attached: 1555441705672.png (387x420, 217K)

oh boy

Attached: NG1_Weapon_Damage.png (1430x1163, 194K)

ET/UT is 100% spamable and abusable in the first two NG games. Claiming otherwise is just running from the truth.

Youtube has plenty of videos of shitters beating NG1 on MNM by spamming the the big 4.

alma looks better than rachel even in human form

Trish is like 50% Recycled moves & animations from sengoku basara... and those characters are somewhat interesting so trish is too by proxy. She was clearly the most rushed and least thought out character tho.

they should have used a bunch of her MVC3 moves. like they gave her Pandora for no fuckingreason instead of lightning blasts.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 114K)

They made a damage chart of two different movesets? Maybe play the fucking games instead of parroting retarded hearsay.

no remorse enemies with the experience they've built up with making fighting games (in regards with recovery and such) allowed them to make a fighting game combat system where you fight multiple enemies.
Oatmeal cookies push for difficulty means that enemies werent hamstrung in design to make them easier to defeat.

running around on heels with a huge demon hammer aint easy.

I thought the ghost fish were clever in the sense that they're bats except significantly harder. The Palace Core is a good place to farm essence because if it.

I figured as much. Murai 1 wasn't particularly tough either since his charge attack leaves him wide open. But my overall experience with the game is something I'm on the fence about. It has good combat, but it feels so generic in every other aspect. Maybe I just set my expectations too high going into it since everyone likes to hype NG1 up like it's the best thing since sliced bread. I think it would have been more interesting as a stealth/action hybrid.

I hope NG4 gives us a gunfu character.

Attached: 1557542625659.webm (960x540, 2.9M)

Do it yourself is my point though. Enemies are alot more evasive and will block FS/IDs first few combo hits on MNM/VH in NGB and the timing to land ET/UT and set up loops isn't easy in NG2. My point isn't that they aren't so much viable as its not easy. Its like saying DMC3/5 must be the easy because you can royal guard the world. All these things take learning and precision.

Lets also not forget there are literally zero iframe runs for NGB/2. So what is the argument? That someone can get to a mid/good level and use these things precisely to beat a game where you also don't need them? Give me a single game where the skill ceiling isn't like that. I only really think of something as abusable when on a respectable difficulty a retard can beat it well using it without thinking. And the closest thing to that in action games is Faust hat

Oh it's silly alright but it makes me laugh because that's kind of how a big woman would run on heels, they fixed it in S2. One walk animation that i actually consider bad is Kasumi's walk cycle in RE, she leans forward for no reason, it's like she has a butt plug up her ass the entire time...uhmmmm....

People don't like Trish and Nelo Angelo? That's news to me and it makes just as little sense.

the fact that with every difficulty the enemy tiers increased, so each playthrough was exciting to see the new enemy tiers that appeared, with completely new enemies not seen in previous difficulties.

Ninjas are weeb shit fool, Japanese games in general are weeb shit, normies don’t play Japanese games outside of Mario.

Attached: E1572099-30CA-4E7C-9C0B-35DCE3F5EE4F.jpg (576x1024, 48K)

Unless Hayashi walks onto stage only for Itagaki to walk out of the other side and push his ass into the audience id rather NG not continue. That hack was so shit he couldn't even improve on NG2 that just needed a few more content pieces and tweaks to framerate and such. Instead removing masses of enemies and adding bad bosses well revamping the UI to look like shit and adding tons of girl parts.

>it's like she has a butt plug up her ass the entire time
wtf I love kasumi now?!

Attached: 1536368120178.png (1920x1080, 1.27M)

I meant that I think 4SE Trish and Nelo are two of the most fun in the genre. Trish is underpowered in some scenarios but I love her gameplan and the impact on her charged moves. Nelo is just visceral impact: the character. I like him more than Vergil himself.

Nobody played the shitty arcade game don’t kid yourself, there are a ton of better beat em ups.

I love how most puzzleshit can be avoided. Like in the colosseum where you can use jumps to avoid pulling any levers

I really liked the throne with torches room though. It was out of place but neat. Kind of like you walked into a room of another game that got scrapped for a more action packed one

Is that why devil's third was complete shit?
Meanwhile Nioh turned out great and Nioh 2 is looking to also be great.
It seems more likely that Team Ninja was the real talent behind NGB/2 but just needed a push to actually make it good. NG3 being shit likely is because of the exact same reasons that Sigma was shit, not because of Itakagi not being there anymore.

They made NG2 in such a way it made heavy use of some Xbox360 exclusive architecture. Making NG2 with the same amount of enemies on the PS3 would be very difficult.

why did vigor emperor have tits?

Lets be honest here. Devils Third was a game that had like 2-3 companies die well it was in production and probably only got released because they felt they had to atleast make it to the finish line. The game was locked at 30fps and Itagaki openly says he hates having to have shit framerate and it probably bothered him how he had to rush NG2 also.

Its really unfair to claim Devils Third is a great example of Itagaki on his own.

I honestly think MUA3 looks pretty fun too. Could be my inner weeb liking the visual style of the combat more. Roster is a bit disappointing but I have enough to make a fun team or two.

the emperor is satan and he has both a feminine and masculine side.

Attached: 1520866263908.jpg (1280x720, 48K)

I did, and you can buy it on the switch and probably the PS4 and Xbone right now.

Attached: 1528051833116.jpg (600x930, 65K)

I think UT spamming is very easy actually, especially in 2 where 90% of enemy attacks no longer interrupt you. I was glad it was gone in RE after 2 games of it. The mechanics and execution were solid and fun but the payoff was far far too great and with no downsides. If they replaced on landing instant UTs with just a simple move that did moderate damage and had good properties but with no further benefits i'd take that mechanic back on a dime, as it was though i think it's better off not being in the game.

I'm not agreeing with the poster you originally replied to, that was shitty bait.

The enemies really were out to fucking kill you, even the most basic ones.

i'd rather you not continue, Itagaki sperg

That's not the first Ninja Gaiden.

I mean I sort of see it. But at the same time its not easy to keep chained UTs on NGB on MNM groups. And NG2 UTs were dumb but still you don't need them and some groups make it hard to chain them and well its lame to see it it takes a certain amount of skill to keep the chain going and being aware of where shit is according to you.

I think certain NG2 UTs were to blame also. There is no reason that even a level 2 Tonfa UT just one of them is basically a room clearing device on MNM. Some UTs aren't half as long.

>why devil's third was complete shit?
It went through development hell that was basically completely out of his control.

Well to be honest i don't have enough experience with either character. I thought both characters were fun and i always wanted to play as Nelo Angelo since the first DMC.

Come to think of it, when it comes to action games there's only two character so far that i hated playing as: Ekkei and Magoichi in Onimusha 2.

Don't talk about games you never played Niohfag

Here's the thing: literally anything Team Ninja would make today would be a huge improvement over Yaiba.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah Tonfa and spin Lunar are definitely the two most broken UTs in the game.

Don't get me wrong, i'm making it sound like a bigger deal than it is for the purpose of this discussion. I don't think UT ruins any of the games by any stretch of the imagination and i have plenty of fun with the mechanic but it's not perfect and just a few tweaks could make it so. Ultimately, shitters will find a way to abuse any game and dumb it down to it's lowest common denominator whatever it may be.

They are bringing back the UT mechanic on Nioh 2 and it looms nerfed comparatively but execution wise it's completely brain dead compared to NG, no apparent tech at all.

Xbone games are going to be playable natively on W10, watch E3.

He literally did nothing wrong. That was 100% unavoidable and unreactable damage. Counter attacks in NG1 are unbeatable, they give invulnerable frames to attack through moves and happen instantly, if Fiend Ryu decides to counterattack you, you will eat that damage every time no matter how good you are at the game and in VF Ryu's case that means eating a 100% juggle combo since that's his standard response to landing a counter. Here's the kicker: he himself CAN dodge out of counter attacks because he does not share the same recovery mechanics as the player despite sharing his moveset.

Fiend Ryu has several examples of unavoidable damage but VF Ryu is the worst thanks to this bullshit combo.

>Close range Guillotine Throw
>Counterattack
>Close range Ninpo

Those are all unavoidable and they do serious damage. The most grating of all of them is casting Inferno on top of you doing massive damage and potential wall splat in the process with just the activation whereas if you do it to him you will take off a pixel of health.

He was pretty funny

>Lady
>interesting
>"I hate my dad REEEEEEE"

*some

and if it's streaming bullshit you can tule it out entirely.

No as in, you can literally download games from the xbox servers and they will run on your PC.

>we will get another wave of people picking up NGB and have their bad place touched by alma and then complain on Yea Forums about it
yes. I was too late for 2004 Yea Forums, but ill be just in time for 2020 Yea Forums

>"I hate my dad REEEEEEE"

That's a retarded oversimplification if i ever saw one. She had good reasons to hate her father and wanting him dead and she wasn't some inflexible parody of teen angst when she could easily have been given the game she was in.

That's funny, i never thought about it but Lady and Rachel's stories are very similar.

I just want NG2 so I don't have to play Sigma 2 or buy an Xbox

I'll believe it when i see it

>60FPS HD staircase fight
Blood for the blood god

>Sigma
Cant believe you wasted your time playing that before doing research. Xbox got the best version of every NG.

I finished Sigma on normal and never encountered that guy, does he only appear at higher difficulties?

That already happened tho

Sigma is a sidegrade outside of bonus content, Sigma 2 is a downgrade, Razor's Edge is an upgrade and was originally Wii U exclusive for some reason.

a demon fighting like Dante from the Devil May Cry series.

>playing NG only at normal
boot up hard before you spoil yourself out of more fun experiences. My personal favorite was the one where an enemy suddenly jumped me at an area where normal had no fight.

One of the coolest things about NG1 is that the higher difficulties introduce new enemies and new bosses. In the case of doppleganger Ryu the higher the difficulty the more of them will show up until finally in Master Ninja you fight one of them for each one of your weapons (minus hammer, Dark Dragon Blade and 2kat). They introduce other bosses too like pic related.

You can find them in the missions mode, there's one trial for each Fiend Ryu including one where you fight him as Rachel. You can also find these bosses in the Survival mode DLC. In one of the Rachel survival trials you fight all of the fiend Ryu's in the game as the bosses 10 times over in a row for the maximum amount of kills, 2 of them at a time in one of the boss waves.

Sigma is a straight upgrade.

and also Sigma 2 is a sidegrade

>upgrade
the timers are fucked

>caring about Karma scores

oh no

>not challenging yourself to at least make all the timers.
let me guess, you think izuna drop is OP as well

>challenge myself to spam UTs

lol

>he only knows how to spam UTs
>he thinks UTs are the only way to be fast.

fuck ghost fish

>DMC
>not oversimplification

I never tried to be fast because i literally could not care less about Karma/Speed run autism. Good thing there's videos out there to show everyone how much of a meaningful endeavor it is.

But i got good news for you: if being a speedrunning, NUMBERS NUMBERS fapping brainlet happens to be what you're life's all about, Sigma has you covered my dude. There's a whole DLC made specifically for that.

youtube.com/watch?v=A6Xz14DiP2c

Attached: 7jLMr6W.png (798x448, 328K)

i dont care for karma as that leads you down some insane autism where you have to make sure you dont kill more than 2 enemies with 1 UT. But making the time bonuses (which isnt nearly as tight as you make them out to be) is a lot of fun since it forces you to approach fights a different way. No more saving after every fight, no more wait and counterattack, no more izuna drops. You have to learn enemies properly so you can be on the offensive

I don't need some arbitrary time limit to teach me anything. I disdain time trial challenge shit in any game. Lucky for me that in NG it's literally a throwaway feature. The first thing i do every time i start the game or a mission is turn off the karma and timer screen so it doesn't take up screen real estate, i have it turned off by default in all of the sequels.

Honestly this.

Taking a developer responsible for an over the top fighting game and giving them the reigns to a over the top action Ninja game was a brillant move.

Also just a ton of care was put into it. The levels are interesting, the bosses are memorable, the enemies are challenging, the weapons feel different, the pacing is perfect, and even the story was pretty good for a generic ninja revenge plot.

>swimming level
how did they ever let this pass playtesting?

...

I'm playing NGB on an OG Xbox for the first time and I can't get past this bitch

Attached: Alma.jpg (610x457, 56K)

did you try flying swallow on her?

Flail Flying Swallow, learn the tell for her beam column grab, use your fireball ninpo to down her and wail on her (if timed right you can avoid one of her projectiles with i-frames and then hit her with the fireball).

focus on roll dodging 24/7
izuna drop every normal enemy
randomly flying swallow alma, and if it knocks her down do your favorite combo

Loved NGS, was disappointed by S2, should I play 3?

What's wrong with it?

sword combat is useless
spear gun you have to pray ryu aims well
when you have to get onto the sunken ship to open the hatch the laser robots can just constantly knock you off just as you get on it

I'll keep these in mind and try it, thanks

How many DOAs do I need to buy but until we get another NG

Flying Swallow when she is in the air, don't do it if you see her gain altitude suddenly, that means the pillar attack is coming and you will miss and take damage on recovery.

Dodge her swoop and dive kick and then charge your heavy attack to the first level, not the blue spark of energy but until you see essence just start to gather around your weapon, release as soon as you reach the desired charge. This is actually the best attack to down her. After she is done do a string on her. Best weapon to fight her is the Dragon Sword

I was dreading the Chapter that seemed to be focused on water but I had no real problem with it. You get the oxygen tank halfway through and you can avoid the fish enemies easily. Just use Explosive Arrows/Cores/Windmill Shuriken on the drones and fishmen (which I have to assume are a reference to Castlevania 1's).

if youre about to get fucked quickly use ninpo. It overrides all recovery and the aura will knock her down, and then you fireball her in the face fro good damage. You can take out a lot of her health by just jumping to her and chain fireballing her.

if shes knocked to the ground use the blade of nirrti combo on her.

In NGB the swimming level is different.

You cannot jump out of the water and waterwalk. that makes you way slower to move around as you cannot move across the water fast. Which makes the robot enemies 100 times more torturous. The sigma water level was made a lot better. although fuck the spike tunnel

I don't remember if the tracking in Black suffers from the same problems as 3rd person bow tracking but in Sigma the fishes are just free essence. You can also kill them without getting in the water. Laser bots are annoying but just use jump windmill shuriken on them or bow if playing Sigma

Play Razor's Edge. Sigma 2 was a weaker version of NG2, while NG3 had all the issues of Sigma baked into the core game. Razor's Edge is the inverse, trying to include more weapons/mechanics in line with NG2 while adding the same sort of bonus content that the Sigma games got.

i don't remember this at all...

Stop talking bullshit

I should really go back and finish Sigma 2.

Also, Razor's edge is worth playing, right? I've heard the original 3 is shit.

pushing away the water level is a good idea

have you ever wondered if ryu felt bad for killing people. Have you ever wanted to see ryu be an adoptive father for a little girl>?

RE is definitely an improvement and has more content but it's still the same game. Maybe watch some footage first and see if you like it.

>tfw I'm such a brainlet that when I got to the tower I thought you had to kill all the enemies firing at you instead of just dodging and destroying the dishes
>tfw I attempted that room for almost an hour before I realized it

Attached: 1523291955224.jpg (1280x720, 121K)

I remember the extra puzzles but i don't remember not being able to water run.

>The AI is also excellent and still ahead of modern action games.
>the fucking clone from NGB

20 fucking years and no action game has this type of AI.

Yes, RE is great

Attached: Peak Miji.webm (900x506, 2.95M)

In sigma you have no puzzles, you just need to pick up a key to go ahead. in black you have the 2 seals and the underwater number lock.

in sigma you can jump out of the water while swimming and waterrun, in black you cant.

It's pretty impressive. Designing fighting game AI before probably had some part in it.

they all lose to ryu osajanamimi

>Designing fighting game AI before probably had some part in it.
I don't want to seem like I'm starting shit, but I don't think this is the case, since Itsuno pretty much only did fighting games with few exceptions prior to taking over DMC, and those games' enemy/boss AI is dissimilar to fighting games. Granted that might be a conscious choice, as DMC3-5 activate the same parts of my brain that enjoy labbing new combo/mixup tech in fighting games, so there's some influence.

I want Itsuno to make another fighting game, but at the same time I'm willing to wait until after 5SE and DD2.

lmaoing@boomers who think they are hip with it for playing a 15 year old game

The enemy design philosophy in his games is the opposite of the one employed in Ninja Gaiden. Vergil 3 embodies some of the same aspects though.

Sometimes I want to make a woman fall in love with me and kill myself before we hit any bad spots in the relationship. Then she will always keep our relationship deep in her heart as the only one that never turned bad, when she is in a breakup.

Then she will know the feeling of loving ninja gaiden and knowing there will never be a followup

All of the UT's are broken lol, well except maybe the claws

Fun fact: Momiji in Sigma 2 has the only unsafe UT in the series

you can charge it in air though.

If you have essence yes, probably why it has that downside

I would like to get killed by those armpits

Is RE worth a playthrough? I kind of want to play the other 3 girls more than Ryu after looking at gameplay.

Yes.

The first is great but it has a shit ton of noob traps with shit like birds spawning as you go to make jumps. The second is a just an overall better game and has boss fights that are genuinely tough unlike all the baby mode bosses in the original

>liked Sigma 2 but not RE
Should I kill myself?

I got an Xbox one X for the sole purpose of replaying my favorite Xboxcore games. Panzer Dragoon Orta and this look amazing in 4k

I wish I could justify doing that. I've been wanting to try out the Otogi games. They look really cool.

blood

I'd upgrade to an X if I had a 4K TV, maybe someday...
But yeah I do enjoy the current collection of OGBox titles on my S, Mercenaries ran really well.

I jerked off to her multiple times. Did the same with the plant woman boss in DMC4.

I think sony owns sigma content and msoft the vanilla and black content

can the game be reliably and consistently beaten without using healing items? the high price of the powerful healing item and the low effectiveness of the weaker one (especially late game) make think they're there mainly as crutch rather than a necessity to survival. but i'm not good enough to not use them.
so I was wondering if hardcore players can normally and consistently beat the game without them without dying and retrying too many times.

Attached: NG1_4SP-Simg_027.jpg (960x544, 362K)

That seems weird but given the way the series released I'd believe it, at least for the original and 2 (3RE seems more open since it came out on Wii U & PS360 alike). Still, you could just port Sigma with "new" features like NG+ or an enemy placement change/decensor option for 2.

These.

I think NG2 did combat better but they also fucked up the balance something fierce and everything else about the game is objectively worse aside from the graphics (which, aside from being on hardware, had a better style imo).

No doubt you can remember the best ways to cheese enemies but there will always be that element of randomness, even the best speedrunners for the game admit that and will use healing items from time to time..

After playing all 3 games, NG2 is the game I keep coming back to the most. RE takes the second place, but it also feels like a step back from 2.

Black is a great game, but I don't see much reason to replay it, too many puzzles and running around.

Attached: Anor Londo.jpg (1280x720, 125K)

is that Anor Londo in the background?

As somebody that's used a lot in his own first time recently, I'm sure it can. Some bosses I've learned very well and done with minimal damage, and I got the lava dragon boss on my first try. It's just that their patterns are very comprehensive to your approaches and don't have the most obvious tells sometimes, so you really need to learn. There's a couple moves in the game I don't know how to dodge without Ninpo, but I'm sure there's ways and otherwise possible to beat with minimal-to-no healing.

That said, I think even the team knew that players would need them to progress if they didn't want to perfect every major encounter, which is why the prices scale with difficulty and why you can farm for Essence in various places throughout the game (the sewer's Fiend Challenge can net you thousands upon thousands, letting you stock up and upgrade multiple weapons).

They are absolutely are not there as a crutch, refer to and That's DMC mentality, it was not how the game was designed. It's not that hard to get currency in the game, the challenges and certain parts of the game seem to have been partially designed with it in mind.

yeah there has been a no hurt run out there. Although that one is kinda screwy since it seems he farms between each part he records. But no death no healing items is fairly simple if you dont do all the fiend challenges. You get nicked here and there but overal you should be able to avoid most damage by good play. A lot of the bosses can be taken down quickly if you know their pattern. Hell some can get combod down instantly if you have the low health UF. They dont pick up all the health extending items and spend more on ninpo refills than actual potions.

Also the high price of the big healing item is pretty easy to get. On harder difficulties the enemies drop way way more yellow essence. Pros that karmarun have to burn money to make sure they dont have too much.

>too many puzzles and running around.
if you know the game like the back of your hand the amount of running around is minimal. The puzzles too. There are a bunch of skips that allow you to avoid stuff. Like the coloseum with the levers you have to pull. You can actually finish that without having to pull a single lever with good platforming skill.

>muh nioh
>ignore the fact they killed NG and DoA after his departure
Itagaki was on his way to killing DoA himself though, so that's a split there

Also, TN before Itagaki is nowhere near the same after, he took a lot of the staff with him when he left, only the bootlicks that koei tecmo could control stayed behind because they all moved up in the company

>Otogi
Seriously. Always wanted to play those and a bunch of other OG Xbox games, like Crimson Skies.

Puzzles in NG are like QTEs in bayo. They wouldn't be a problem to me, but I enjoy NG2 combat way more anyway. Unlike bayo, in which case I prefer the first game over the sequel.

>ignore facts, listen to my totally not biased head canon!

We are having a nice thread here, take your celeb autism and go

if you like ng, you'll eventually give it a shot. when it works, it works. not neccessarily great, but it's fun.

that's a perfectly normal and expected reaction.
I'd wait until I see what Msoft is doing for its next gen console. let's see if phil is really full of it like a lot of people believe

you gotta remember itagaki didn't approve anything having to do with Sigma. he didn't take it too well either, as evidenced by the his non-existent relationship with Koei Tecmo

as for ports, it'd more than likely be the sigma versions, as an extra fuck you to Itagaki, but there's no real way to make the combat mesh with increased enemy count for 2, the game was redesigned quite a bit

what facts, you posted nothing but opinion and conjecture.

RE is a test of if you actually understood all of NG's systems or if you simply got by. It's not perfect but none of the games are. Some of the changes were good, some they went a little overboard with, regardless it's still one of the best action games i ever played.

I haven't posted anything, you did.

But here's the facts:
>Team Ninja without Itagaki has managed to keep producing good to great games
>Itagaki without Team Ninja has managed to produced garbage and nothing since

The only one posting conjecture is you, now fuck off

>button reading AI is impressive

Every single action game ever made has input reading. It's a basic cornerstone when it comes to AI.

Input Reading is on the same level of Artificial Difficulty when it comes to buzzwords, just a boogieman propped up by ignorant brainlets.

>doa 6, ng 3
>good
how about you fuck off

DOA6 is great and NG3 was redeemed with RE.

I guess school just ended in burger land.

Simple but perfectly tuned level design and controls. The final boss gimmick was also memorable as fuck even if it's questionable design.
