even worse, the sexual orientation is not shown without 3rd party tools, so you can only guess why isn't it happening.
and to fix this you have to add a hidden ORIENTATION raws tag to all creatures before you generate your world.

iirc when gay was added animals could be generated gay which would make getting a breeding pair of exotic animals more difficult, and thus would have posed an actual problem, but it's been a long while since I've played DF and I could be mistaken.

Dwarves could get married and have children, but obviously gay dwarves won't be having children. That's the only difference.
The point of adding them, like most shit added to DF, is fluff.

It's a reality simulator using ASCII and an autistic level of detail given to everything from rocks to plants, why wouldn't homosexuality and transsexualism be included? This isn't even a matter of, "I support it" or "I hate it," these conditions and orientations exist, and that's reason enough to add them into the game. If you don't like them, you can genocide them - and that's 100% okay by the creator's standards.
