There is a difference between 2×(3) and 2(3). If it was 2×(3) you'd be correct but 2(3) is already considered one number as far as order of operation goes, so you simplify to 6 first.
This mistake is super easy to make though. I think it was explained literally once in math class and later classes just completely stop using ×, so you never really think abou it.

6 ÷ 2(1 + 2) = 6 × ½ × (1 + 2) = 9

If the operation says 3/2X do you make that 1.5X? No, because 2X is considered one number. You could only do 3X/2X=1.5X

that's the order of operations for algebraic math. Multiplication and Division have the same priority, along with Addition and Subtraction having the same priority below Multiplication and Division. Which means that once the Parenthesis and Exponents are simplified, you solve the problem from left to right, first multiplying and dividing sections then adding and subtracting the remainders after.

so it should be solved like this

>6/2(3)
>3(3)
>9
