It's just like Hit and Run, a 7/10 game that is overrated and blown out of proportion simply because expectations are so abysmal for licensed games. If this came out at the same time with the exact same gameplay minus the Spongebob license, nobody would have remembered it and it wouldn't have gotten a remake.

It's a solid collectathon platformer. Hit and Run isn't a bad game, but it's a pretty frustrating one.
Expectations are abysmal for modern games in general, so remaking games that were good like BFBB bevause the industry has ran out of ideas is okay to me.
I would love a remaster or Hit and Run. A 7/10 PS2 game shits all over most of garbage released today. I’d much rather play through Hit and Run again than play fucking GTA IV/V/RDR.

Of COURSE the license was a big part. People kinda fucking like Spongebob, and characters, themes, and settings are important in a fucking video game.
It's definitely not on par with Mario or any of the other major 3D platforming franchises of that era like some people make it out to be, but it's so much better than everything else besides those. Put BfBB next to Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and it looks like a master piece.

Not really sure what part of my post you found objectionable. If you think battle for bikini bottom is anywhere near Mario or any of the other big 5th/6th gen 3D platformers then you have absolute trash taste. Its mechanics are extremely shallow, just standard budget double jump platformer fare and it really only makes up for it with its presentation and level design.
If you think there are other budget platformers you are think are close to it or better than there are probably a handful I would agree with or at least respect.

I like the Ty games(except 3), Ty 1 though is what I consider a perfect example of a middle of the road platformer and it's fairly well known which is why I used it as an example. It's got really basic mechanics that don't really go beyond a basic jump/hover, inconsistent presentation, fairly forgettable characters/theming, and poor level design(after the first 4 levels).
