In high school my buddy told me that to fix a 360 RROD all I needed to do was turn it on, wrap a towl around it for ten minutes, and then restart.
>it fucking worked
I still don't get why that works but I got to play xbox without sending it in.

Wtf is bricking a computer

The old school way? Windows 95 had certain drivers left out in the open when you used Windows Explorer. Those drivers were required to be out in the open in order for Windows to boot. If someone moved them from that location, Windows would not start.

years ago got that forced installation of win 8.1, caused blue screen of death.. had to use browser on my vita to somehow recover back to win 8... now it's been years and am happily still on 8. askvg.com/how-to-stop-automatic-forced-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-windows-8-1/

i dunno bro, harder to do on a desktop, since parts are replaceable, but laptop parts are hard to come by
>hard drive malfunction, losing all of your data, and not backing up
>monitor issues on laptop
>software issue

a wet towel? or literally just wrapping a towel around it while it's off?

breaking it
>move to new house
>plug xbox on tv to watch movies in temporary absence of internet
>weird af resolution
>set some setting to work correctly
>got internet, time to move it to my gaymeing corner
>doesn’t work
>try other tv
>doesn’t work either
>wtf is this
>try ps on all displays, works everywhere
>try every hdmi cable i have, they all work
>plug xbox back to first tv, turns out i disabled auto detect
I felt so stupid

windows 10 update bricked my 900$ asus laptop

>game refuses to run
>nothing i can do will fix this DLL error
>try a bunch of fixes, nothing
>try to reinstall windows as a last ditch
>fails somehow and reverts to normal
>next day
>everything works fine for no reason

not exactly bricking it but i fucking hate win10 so much

>everything works fine for no reason
had this happen more times than I care to admit

it makes me nervous

>tfw my laptop somehow broke at the hinge today despite being perfectly fine the last two and a half years at work today
>Wouldn't close properly and I didn't want to try messing with it too much at work so I had to jerry-rig it closed by pressing the hinge back into where it's supposed to be using electrical tape
>Got home and removed the tape, now there's a bunch of cracks in the lower left corner of the screen
>Now have it permanently positioned at a 90 degree angle on my desk

Ordered a new one for about $400 and it'll be here on Monday, but that is some serious bullshit. Fuck MSI I'm a Lenovo-man now.

I fucking hate MS.

>100% usage most of the time with dips to near 0%

>Find out it's because I have automatic Windows updates disabled and when there's like 3 or more queued they fucking trash my hard drive

And this is on Windows 7. I'm getting real fucking tired of Windows.

Attached: REEEEEEEEE.jpg (680x680, 38K)

what kind of trash hard drive are you running

A high quality one. Has absolutely nothing to do with the hard drive the fucking operating system randomly decides to call random points in my hard drive hundreds of times per second for no reason and hogs all my resources until I do a fucking update.

>Find out it's because I have automatic Windows updates disabled and when there's like 3 or more queued they fucking trash my hard drive
That should not be happening even on win 7. I've got like 10 updates right now that it wants me to download and I also have auto Windows updates disabled. I'm on Win 7 ult if that makes a difference though.

laptop faggot breaks his laptop, learns nothing, purchases another laptop.

I use it for work/travel purposes primarily, I've got a PC setup at home I use for vidya and I hate using tablets so I'm stuck using laptops in that case.

I once thought I'd permanently damaged my monitor
>notice spot with slightly wrong colours
>now that it's been noticed I can't ever unsee it
>maybe it's gunk on the screen?
>try to rub it off with a dry tissue
>it gets worse, there are raw rgb pixels and material around the site looks like I was digging into the monitor itself
>fak
>one last hail mary, powered down the monitor and tried a wet tissue instead. If the monitor was fucked, now it would be proper fucked, but if it was resilient crud then this would fix it
>it fixes it
I'm still not sure what the gunk was.

>That should not be happening even on win 7. I've got like 10 updates right now that it wants me to download and I also have auto Windows updates disabled. I'm on Win 7 ult if that makes a difference though.

I've done everything that I can other than updating. I've seen it suggested that I turn of super fetching so I did that. No effect. I've considered that it is in fact a bad hard drive but my hard drive runs like a goddamn banshee except when I need Windows updates.

I don't know what else it could be. I've never had this issue before. But my PC runs like an absolute champ 90% of the time except when a few Windows updates stack up and as soon as I install said updates it runs fine.

>open steam one day a couple years ago
>it just sits in processes not doing anything
>no cpu usage, no ram usage
>end task and reopen
>same shit
>i can open as many instances of it as i want and none of them use resources
>scrubbing my pc of every steam file, folder, and registry, then reinstalling doesn't fix it
>spend 2 weeks scouring the internet trying to find a fix
>a couple similar issues but the fixes don't work
>one day it just starts working again

that was on win7 and i have 10 now, but i'm constantly worried it'll happen again out of nowhere and it might not fix itself again

Attached: 1505827454866.jpg (316x343, 35K)

was it the old clientregistry.blob

My N64 caught fire when I was a kid because we had a shitty third party power adapter

that might've been one of the issues i saw, but this was long time ago and don't really remember

i did everything short of formatting my drive, so i still have no clue what could've caused it to keep the problem through multiple wipes.

the first pc I built had these sockets on the mother board for the cpu with this retention clip you had to push down on one side with a screwdriver and well that screwdriver slipped and scraped across the mobo a good six inches. i wanted to cry.

but it booted up fine and performed error free for 10 years

post yfw your initial boot goes smoothly

>hot summer day
>installing new parts
>sat the open side of the case next to a window
>direct sunlight right on it
>didn't notice and left it there for hours while i did other shit
>come back and finish putting the parts in
>turn it on
>lights on fucking fire
>panic and manage to put it out with canned air
>scorch mark on the power supply and motherboard
>think its fucked
>turn it on anyways after it cooled down
>works like a charm
>no problems ever and its the best computer I've had since

forged in the flames of hell

>put it out with canned air
that doesnt sound safe

the last pc I built I thought was haunted because it would perform without fail for weeks and then I'd get some problem that would go away over night never to return and after another few weeks of problem free operation an entirely new problem would present itself only to somehow resolve itself. this went on for like six months before someone suggested I run memtest which took 30 hours and found errors on my ram

At one point I thought I fried my ram while upgrading but it turns out I just had to push it in a little harder.

i fucking hate pushing in ram and pci cards that fucking grindy scrapy crunchy sound and feeling always leaves me feeling like I broke shit

>took apart ps2 because it stopped reading DVD's(could still read CD based games like ps1/blue back ps2)
>it doesnt turn on
>realize forgot to plug the ribbbon for the power button back in after 20 minutes

>hacking 3DS and it crashes on boot
>just fucked up my steps

>Swapping out CPU for upgrade
>accidentally elbow screwdriver onto motherboard pins, bending one
>lightly bend it back with tip of pocket knife
>no post
>forgot to plug CPU cable from psu back onto motherboard

>emulating botw to see what the fuss is about when cemu first had it playable
>after like 2 hours my motherboard starts a small fire freaks me the fuck out
>was just one of the many fan pins somehow got fried board still works flawless on reboot

>playing shitty snes emulator on psp
>locks up entire psp
>have to hard reset
>SD card no longer showing up
>just had to pop it back out and in

Theres more Im sure im not remembering because it seems to happen to me all the fucking time

>Fuck the projector is dying with green horizontal lines covering 50% of what it projects
>Google for fixes
>One guy says "You're not going to believe this but 2 inches down and 2 inches from the left on the top left corner on the outside of the projector press the plastic down for 15 seconds"
>Haha what the fuck
>Do it
The projector still works today 4 years later

Don't have a story but have a relevant screencap

nice, whats there in that location? some part that comes loose?

earlier this year
>build new pc gen7 components and 1070ti

>install windows 7 to ssd, she posts
>install hollow knight real quick, runs beautifully
>install my usual software, turn off shit features, wallpaper, etc
>buy dmc5, runs fine, play it before work for an hour
>no problems yet
>come home, browse for an hour, screen crashes
>computer still on
>buy psu tester, shits fine
>try the 1050ti from my old rig
>screen still crashes after awhile
>try an kajigger w7 updates kaby lake
>works technically, but a couple minor things get fucked up
>cave and pirate w10 ltsc 2019
>install
>bitch and moan the whole way through
>everything's fine
ltsc is the way to go with w10, just pop in classic shell and it's w7 with a new coat of paint
no cortana, no app store, no ads
