You got me. The only Megaten games I've played are Nocturne and Persona 5. This doesn't mean that Atlus shouldn't try and find a better balance, Persona is obscene in the amount of faffing about it does with dialogue and nothing in particular happening for hours at a time, while Nocturne has the opposite problem of it being an almost pure dungeon crawler with no context for what you're doing. Somewhere in the middle would be a great game.

As for the second point, I know. My point was that they have a lot of titles on their line up, so rushing P6 isn't really necessary. Even then, it'll probably release around 2022/2023.
That's still quite a long time, and even then P5 was in development for such a long time because Hashino backpedalled on his main vision for the story, among other things.

Except that was a long ass time ago. The original Nocturne didn't even release outside of Japan. Everyone else immediately got Nocturne Maniax. To begin with, Nocturne is a very unfinished game, and still was for Maniax because of the limited hardware specs.
It's what Atlus has always done. It sounds like the developers can never put all of their ideas in during their first run so they go back and fix up some stuff and throw in some new shit and get to make a profit at the same time.

The appeal of Persona games is the playable VN aspect. Going through dungeons was shit in 3 and 4 and even in 5 is... meh. P4 is fucking garbage with tone, which 3 handles VERY well, and gameplay, which is by far the most important aspect and also the aspect where P5 fucking DESTROYS P3 and P4. The writing is also boring and repetitive for the first 90% of the game and stupid and contrived for the last 10%. Literally all of the party member dungeons boil down to the same recycled "YOU'RE NOT ME" dialogue and none of the things that happen in them have any impact on the story.

Well okay I lied, I dropped the game at like 85% with a total playtime of 41 or 42 hours. I played those 42 hours over the span of 3 1/2 days cause I had no internet. Played from morning till bed. What is true though is that I didn't skip any dialogue, of course I didn't do every side confidant or mission, I rushed Tart. once a month for those mini missions and mostly just grinded stats and social ranks.
As for P4 with cheats, I played legit until the incel boss that was total garbage to fight, from there on out I used EXP mult. cheats as well as instant map reveals.
P3P was alright when it came to dungeon crawling cause you had an overhead view, in P4 and regular P3 it's over the shoulder and might I add shadows have an instant lock-on and your melee range is pathetic. I played P4 solely for the story, same as all the other games.
The rat sections are fun as fuck, and they're cute.
The dialogue is great too. Why would you not want character interactions in the final dungeon? Those are some of the best parts of P5's dungeons in general, it grounds them in the reality of the game instead of feeling completely disconnected from it like P4's.
I think there are only 4 but PQ had 5 so I'm still holding out for a surprise.

For example Kamoshida's palace is redone in P5R with new assets, puzzles, ways to move, different rooms, maybe the fights within it, etc . Who knows what dialog outside the palace was changed, the pacing, etc?
We know that we still meet him and then defeat him, but nothing else, not what or how it happens in-between those two. Same applies to each and every arc in the game.
