It is downright offensive. Also, I recently just re-watched their playthrough of Mega Man X. You know that one? The one where he has to stop recording at "exactly 5:40 pm" so he can go upstairs and "watch the kids"? What the fuck does that sow he lives with do? She make any money? Has she ever paid one mortgage bill? He oughta be ashamed of himself. Imagine being so unaware you broadcast that shameful display out for the world to see. A smarter man would know to keep that embarrassment to themselves. James is a short bus kid. Having these YouTube dudes show us who they really are in the extra "let's play" videos was a mistake. I would have preferred to know nothing about him except that he plays a funny character in YouTube videos.

Blame youtube/twitch for making people have to constantly whore themselves out on youtube. If it was viable to release fewer videos we wouldn't get so much lazier, half-assed content as unedited "let's plays" and impromptu, embarrassing streams.

I can't pinpoint exactly when it happened, but AVGN got ridiculously Flanderized. Every element of his character has been exaggerated to the point of obnoxiousness. He actually had a much more calm, almost believable demeanor in his older videos--you could have genuinely taken him for a guy that just got pissed at video games (I remember a lot of people DID think that until he made his first video out-of-character). His outbursts were reserved for genuinely frustrating moments, and it wasn't the outbursts themselves that were over the top (generally, anyway), it was their content, and that's what made it funny.

Nowadays, he'll suffer the most minor inconvenience in a game, and sperg out and scream for half of the episode. It all just feels forced and very non-genuine. Also, literally every episode has to have some stupid subplot nowadays, generally about the game cart or a character in it coming to life.

Another good episode. How little of Superman 64 got touched the 1st time was a bit of a sour spot, he reviewed half of the 1st level and that was it. Finally coming back to it and beating the full game is great, and the video comes with a few good references to past jokes in the series and also some decent trivia on Superman himself.

The "skit" scenes were super short and literally only to bookend the review, which was perfect and let him focus on the game, because this was a game worth another look.

Revisiting Superman actually made a lot of sense though, he literally didn't finish the 1st level last time. Considering it's one of the most iconic "shitty games" of all time, it deserved an actual playthrough.

He's out of the best material, but there's only so many shitty games worth playing to begin with. If this episode was bad I could see complaining about it, but it's a good episode, it had decent jokes and didn't waste any time.

To be fair it was a decent ad, he filled it with flavor and had some decent corny jokes in it instead of just doing a straight infomercial like every other cash-in youtuber does. Making the ad feel like content goes a long way, I made it through the ad without needing to skip it because it was entertaining enough with Jame's character and jokes.

The first two are classic golden-era tier jokes user, you've just grown up past the prime age for those jokes oldtimer.

The last one was a reference to a past gripe of his, not a claim that tmnt invented that shitty mechanic.

It's a joke that won't be a joke soon because somehow the series is surviving until the year 2020, I'm fully expecting Raid 2020 review to come out in January 2020. It'll start as a regular review but end up being a reflection, with him doing something similar to Earthbound's review where he thinks about the past, and maybe now that he's fulfilled his obligation on that decade-old brick joke he can end the review by finally retiring the nerd character

The thing about his reviews is that his gameplay is always 100% his own gameplay, recorded himself. He had 3 jokes about easy bosses because they were that easy, and he probably included all 3 as simple jokes just to enhance the joke about the glitch on the 4th one.

I'm surprised he didn't bring the Glitch Gremlin back, he seemed to want to pack this episode with nostalgia.
