Speedrunning community is known to have a sizeable transgender percentage, so transgenders, who are very often insecure and without identity, see it as a chance to be a part of some community.
And since almost everyone plays games, they always have something in common with said community, so it's easy for them to get integrated.

I'm not big into speedrunning. I watched a few of the gdq's a couple of years back but never got too into them. This one seems like a nice comfy stream, though.

Being good at your favourite game is actually pretty rewarding and gives a new perspective on how certain gameplay elements and design elements interact.
Assuming the game is in a genre where speedrunning is relevant (i.e. not atmospheric survival horror, SHMUP, traditional fighter) give it a try some time.

if i had to ration an explanation, i'd say everything about cosmo was the biggest thing happening in speedrunning for some time. his transitioning and all the drama around it probably attracted them.

Speedrunning used to have lots of small events (usually online) back in 2011ish before ADGQ took off and forced eSports propelled Justin.tv into the current multi-billion dollar industry that Twitch is today.
Things like NASA are a callback to times like that, all gameplay and personality with no donations and no corporate bans on fun or no-no words.
