BotW essentially offered complete freedom in movement and options for how you want to tackle the game, while making navigation part of the gameplay itself. Where can open world go from here?
How can open world innovate after this?
By making the world's smaller and and more dense. Put more to do in it.
Shut the fuck up you snivelling little Nincel worm.
By making a game instead of a glorified tech demo
BOTW was shit
Every Zelda since Skyward Sword has been shit
Hard to say. Even now 2 years later I'm not sure on how you would improve on it besides the obvious better AI and shit like that
Pic related did a pretty good job of surpassing Zelda. IMO.
There is literally NOTHING BOTW does that other Openworld games haven't. Get Nintendo's cock out of your mouth. Jesus christ. Nintendo fans are the worst.
name 1 thing that BotW has done that no other open world game has done before? You talking about options but this game doesn't even let you do half the stuff you could do in any GTA game.
No other game has allowed the level of depth in climbing and navigation, combined with a complex chemistry system that leads to using the environment to perform different ways to navigate and engage in combat. It's essentially the first open world to make navigation and exploration part of the gameplay itself instead of just following a map marker. You never have to circumnavigate and instead have complete freedom of movement to climb what you wish
seeAs good as BOTW is, they were beaten to the punch about 8 years ago.
It's no Just Cause.
>muh climbing
That wouldn't even fit in most games, complete freedom means freedom from proper map and level design.
>Where can open world go from here?
Hold my sake.
You're explaining simple things other games have done in a way to make it seem like it's never been done before.
And as for navtigation, Just Cause 2-3 does it FAR better. As for climbing, SOTC does it better as there is an ACTUAL POINT to climbing in SOTC, unlike BOTW.
>combined with a complex chemistry system that leads to using the environment to perform different ways to navigate and engage in combat
What fucking chemistry system, wtf are you talking about? Are you talking about how fire goes out when it rains, or how you can manipulate physics(have you NEVER played any game since Pysx became a thing, because clearly you haven't.) And combat in BOTW is pointless, no reason to go after the UBI encampments for a garbage weapon.
> It's essentially the first open world to make navigation and exploration part of the gameplay itself
OO boy. I'd implore you to play literally ANY openworld game ever. The whole fucking point of openworld games is for the navigation and exploration of the world you idiot.
You are such a Nintenbot it's fucking silly.
>You never have to circumnavigate and instead have complete freedom of movement to climb what you wish
And all of this means nothing when the world is barren. What's the point in climbing up ANY mountain in this game?
>Just Cause 2 essentially offered complete freedom in movement and options for how you want to tackle the game, while making navigation part of the gameplay itself. Where can open world go from here?
It's essentially the first open world to make navigation and exploration part of the gameplay itself instead of just following a map marker
Stop being a nigger by bloating your sentences. "Essentially" doesn't need to be there. Fucking Watch_Dogs makes the world a part of gameplay (combat).
There is no game that comes even close to the chemistry engine of BotW.
Don't be silly, plenty of games have surpassed it.
Kenshi has a better open world than this retarded theme park shit, OP, and it's a fucking indie game
in SotC you cannot climb literally any surface
>The whole fucking point of openworld games is for the navigation and exploration of the world you idiot.
Do you really think that games like Skyrim or Witcher 3 are about navigation at all? No, navigation and getting around the landscape is not part of the gameplay, you just go from quest marker to quest marker. In BotW, going from A to B IS the gameplay. You see something in the distance, and have to figure out how to get there, and you have basically completely freedom to do with with the multiplicity of options
There are several things that kept me from enjoying this game....
World feels very empty most of the time it's way too sparsely populated
Gear feels unimportant in normal mode and I'm not paying extra to get the "real" game with master mode.
AI is a complete joke. There is not a single difficult enemy in this game because link is simply OP as hell right out the gate with the shiekah skills.
Weapon breakage is tedious and annoying.
Game has no feel of economy money is useless for the most part.
Horses suck. Seriously who actually uses them ? Why would you? I've not seen such a bad implementation of mounts very often.
Performance is another issue. The game runs choppy as hell on both consoles in several areas. If dark souls gets slammed for blight town botw shouldn't get a pass on this either
Recycle the same few boring enemies the entire game. The only thing I ever felt was somewhat well designed were Lynels but again, the pc is too op and negates their only well designed mob.
There are tons of ways botw could be improved. I still think it's over all a good game... And modding it on cemu would likely answer many of my complaints but out of the box on nintendo consoles I feel it's more of a concept project they tried and maybe we will get a much more refined and complete game next time around
"freedom" is a meme in an empty copy pasted ubisoft world
The RDR2 model is better, not as much freedom in exploration and gameplay, but males up for it with experiences and setpieces designed for you to encounter that you will never forget
>climb literally any surface
This is not a good thing.
Fpbp. And please for the love of God, get a little more creative than the ugly ass cookie cutter shrines.
>chemistry engine
WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! What is a chemistry engine?
Oh right shrines fucking suck ass. Dungeons are 15min ezmode like what the fuck. The Dungeons in zelda are iconic... They definitely flopped on that part.
rent free
>but this game doesn't even let you do half the stuff you could do in any GTA game.
But GTA's game design is horribly outdated, retard
>, you just go from quest marker to quest marker.
Yes, because every single person who's EVER played ANY OPEN WORLD game, that's NOT BOTW, just went from point a to b and nothing else.
You're a fucking idiot. And what do you do in BOTW besides go from point a to b>?
nice reddit spacing
It’s funny how Nintendofags have no arguments, just vague bullshit that doesn’t actually mean anything.
BoTW feels like a tech demo and it’s easier to break than a fucking Bethesda game.
condensing world design so there isn't so much empty space followed by improving combat
>You're a fucking idiot. And what do you do in BOTW besides go from point a to b
You have fun, more than I could say about RDR2, Rage 2, Just Cause 4, Fallout 76 or any other recent open world cinematic game
You're looking at AAA games for competition, which is the problem.
You better go to a smash thread and ask for reinforcements, you’re clearly too stupid to defend Nintendo’s bing bing honor by yourself.
Eat a dick faggot Reddit is only good for English patches to play Korean n jap exclusives when it ain't posted on by already
Dying Light essentially offered complete freedom in movement and options for how you want to tackle the game, while making navigation part of the gameplay itself. Where can open world go from here?
Uhh does it have Zelda in it’s name sweety? I think not.
As opposed to what? You are admitting BOTW is in a league by itself
terrible controls though jesus, completely unplayable if you actually like video games
You cant counter a single thing user said cause its 100% accurate lol nice deflection.
You're looking at the lowest common denominator when it comes to competition. Of course AAA games are trash, and it's admirable that Zelda is above them. However, indies have been destroying Zelda for years.
Open worlds can innovate by expanding on Shenmue with a AAA budget. By that I mean giving players a proper living world to explore, one that's fully immersive. NPCs with homes they return to, and constant interactivity even if it's minor. RDR2 came close with the ability to interact with every NPC, the people in the camp, etc. But overall it still feels shallow. Stupidly linear mission design aside, all the repeated random encounters broke my immersion. Plus those random encounters aren't really random. Most players will see the same ones, because Rockstar made sure of it.
My dream is a small open world game that focuses heavily on detail, immersion, and gameplay variety. I unironically wished Yakuza was more like Shenmue, as I like the city design and core combat.
By having better npc interaction. They never get that right in any open world.
And yet managed to fuck up the most essential aspect of an action game with the weapon durability and a whole selection of disposable weapons, including the “master” sword.
They doomed this crap from the moment such stupid decision was accepted by the dev team.
God, not even Dark Souls 2 has such a shitty system.
to a game with content
/Thread. We need an evolution on the Gothic/Morrowind type open world.
Way of the samurai is the best open world game I have ever played,
maybe it's because people enjoy playing games more than shitting on them like Yea Forums seems to.
ALBW was fucking good
Didn't Xenoblade X have a fuckhueg world?
By going deeper.
It's not like BotW was anything special in terms of its open world anyway so I don't know why you used that as an example.
>World feels very empty most of the time it's way too sparsely populated
It was just after a calamity. Sparsely populated is important to the world. Besides, it's really not much less full of life than other games.
>Horses suck. Seriously who actually uses them ? Why would you? I've not seen such a bad implementation of mounts very often.
Now this is absurd. The horses in BotW control more smoothly than just about any other game. They control like a dream.
>Game has no feel of economy money is useless for the most part.
Money is essential especially for buying arrows and upgrades. More important in this game than any other zelda
>It was just after a calamity. Sparsely populated is important to the world.
Then make it not just after a calamity.
>It was just after a calamity
it's a hundred years after the calamity and it seems like everyone just twiddled their thumbs while waiting for Link to return
on the subject of the calamity's aftermath, why aren't there any undead Hylian enemies? Poes, stalfos, redeads, etc. should be crawling all over the place given how many people died yet they're nowhere to be found
This, huge missed opportunity not to have creepy undead shit like that
>doesn't know what a chemistry engine is
the haters can't even COMPREHEND the amazing feats of Nintendo, its actually rather sad that they have to suffer so much
>and it seems like everyone just twiddled their thumbs while waiting for Link to return
Monsters lost control because Ganon is being fucked by Zelda, a lot of people died. Not very hard to understand
You don't know shit brainlet. The world is dense enough and clear enough to stimulate the observant person. Ofcourse you wouldn't know that
